    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  2 года назад +2

      Hi SSL Don, if done as demonstrated, it will deepen the vocal cord adduction so it makes it easier to get into head voice vs going into falsetto. In that way, yes, it strengthens head voice....because it helps establish head voice. It does thin the chest voice and helps prevent pulling chest.

    I believe that it was hard for you to adapt to your masculine voice when it was fresh during puberty. I am an autistic man and I really had that problem when my masculine voice was fresh as I had to get used to sing lower, my singing habits were childish and I was used to sing higher. It confused me. Interestingly, while at first my voice felt too deep for me, when I compare it to an average masculine voice, I hear that my voice is a bit higher than the average masculine voice, in fact singing lower than B2 is honestly hard for me, and honestly I think I didn't want to sing that low in anyway, the problem is just that I lost the ability to hit high notes, at least I started feeling that my falsetto is too weak.

      It's the one drawback to online learning. Sometimes you need someone to listen to you who can answer that question for you...Am I doing that right? Short of a live lesson or feedback on an audio recording, record yourself practicing, and play it for a trusted friend or family member and ask them if it sound like the demonstration in the video (if you know it was done right!) Or, if you think you can listen very objectively, listen to it yourself). In the end, you may save a great deal of time and $ taking a lesson.

  • @ExcessDenied0
    @ExcessDenied0 Год назад +3

    I can hit all these pitches, everything from below A0 (with subharmonics) up to 6th and 7th octave stuff with overtone/whistle screams, but my natural lower and mid registers (what most would call "chest voice") are still from around D2-E4. I use my upper register for anything from around C4-G5 most of the time (with some overlap with my mid register up to E4), and I can now get it about as loud and almost as solid as my lower register stuff, but my issue is tone. I'm always left feeling like my upper register sounds so close to a tenor's mid-register, but never quite as full, and it comes across in music as thin or comedic rather than powerful and high-impact the way I would like it to. Everything you've demonstrated here in this video is alright, it's technically good and I don't want to be disrespectful, but it would never work in the context of any of the music I find myself making with my band at the moment. So I'm left wondering if I'm chasing something impossible by trying to get a fuller and more powerful rock tone out of my upper register/"head voice", or if I just need to get that much stronger and practice that much harder. I can often get it to work well enough for background vocals in tracks (mostly "AAAY" and "AAAW" and "HEY/ALRIGHT/AW YEAH"... you know the typical rock noises), but it somehow doesn't quite hold up tonally when I try to use it for more lyrical stuff like choruses. Axl Rose did it, and Brian Johnson did it, but I'm losing my mind trying to find my own way to that same freedom and get it to sound genuinely good. It feels like I'm just kind of doomed to sound like a big turkey pretending to be Robert Plant with anything over E4, even at best, even when it's strong and loud and well supported with good projection (it's not coming out of my nose at all).

    • @ChuckGilmore
      @ChuckGilmore Год назад +1

      Some things are genetic. Regardless of genetics though, if the larynx is high and there is too much squeeze on the vocal cords, or insufficient air flow getting to the cords, all this contributes to you not getting the full potential of your tone.

    • @ExcessDenied0
      @ExcessDenied0 Год назад +1

      @@ChuckGilmore Do you find there's a natural limit to how full a bass can get their upper register, or can it typically get as genuinely full in sound as a tenor's voice at the same pitch with enough practice and the right coordination?

    • @ChuckGilmore
      @ChuckGilmore Год назад +1

      @@ExcessDenied0 It's all dependent on the individual voices. Generally, I think the tenor will always have a more "brilliant" tone or brighter tone than a bass trying to sing the same high notes. In contrast, the bass will always have more tone on the lower notes...even as the tenor begins to washout.

    • @ExcessDenied0
      @ExcessDenied0 Год назад +1

      @@ChuckGilmore I suppose you're right. The acoustics can be adjusted somewhat in a number of ways, and new coordinations can be developed and stabilized, but there's still always going to be those harmonic frequencies that are resonated best by a given person's natural anatomy when it is operating within the scope of relaxed and healthy/sustainable positions.

      Pretty much just like it's demonstrated at 1:51 in the video. You blow air through your lips just enough to get them to bubble. Loose, floppy lips are what you want. Not tight. Not with pursed or tensed lips. Just like you see in the video is the ideal.

      @Power To Sing I am self taught and coached along the way by a few professionals in choirs, plays, etc but I would guess it has something to do with too much nasality and not enough support from the bottom. I'm also a smaller bass so I'm not sure if there might be some natural timbre "restrictions" just based on resonanating through a smaller cavity than someone with a larger build? I'm not sure 😅
