Ive seen tthis home almost every day oon tthe tram and always wished I could own it - I adored it. Im heartbroken its gone. There is NO need to get rid of these homes, they will stand for a centtury longer than anything we build today. Such a shame - many a broken heart over these homes.
So true . The ones build now are the same , expensive and cheaply made . For example , I pulled the carpet back from the stairs and it was just ply wood . Everything is cramped together like the kitchen and living room which I don't like .
I've never been to Australia but through your videos it feels like I have. I feel older homes adds character to places, countries. What a terrible loss Australia has been going through. I absolutely dig Australia's housing history told through your videos. Thank you kind sir for bringing Australia to us.
What an impressive home loved how they didn't paint over most of the dark wood trim & the ceilings are incredible. What a home to be proud of. Cheers Paul Bye.
I knew I would cry. When I saw the bay window in the living room, all I could think was that it would be the perfect spot for my kidney desk. The desk and I would have moved right in. So glad you take the time to film these before that @#$% tunnel goes in.
Oh my heart 💔 breaks such a beautiful home I love it so much and it will be gone forever ♾️ because of the tunnel such a great shame. Thank you for the tour. ❤😊x🌟
I’ve been following your channel for a bit now. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to see the architecture of Australia. What I’ve noticed about these lovely homes being destroyed for a tunnel is that there are no stress fractures in the masonry. It breaks my heart that these beautiful, intact, well cared for homes are being razed. If I was an owner, I would be enraged.
Cheers for the support and for watching Ann, yes many of the home lost were in great condition and had recent renovations, it's really frustrating to see these amazing homes torn down, I agree with you! 😊👍
What a grand loss. All I can say is I'm sure hope they got a full appraised amount for that, if it was me and I didn't, my next home would be absolute bare bones. It'd likely be all I could afford anyway. Thanks for the tour Paul! Stayin Tuned! 👍🤠 🇺🇸
I doubt they got what it is currently worth because the Australian housing market is ridiculously over inflated which the government caused by letting to many immigrant's in the last few years! 🙂👍
Beautiful home! I enjoy learning the history and your comments about the windows, doors and other architectural details. Thank you so much for sharing!! 🥰
What a gorgeous home!! I feel it's an absolute travesty knocking over something so well kept. Thank you for sharing it with us. I am certain that like all governments the world over, they probably screwed the owners on the price, especially considering all of the work and care that went into fixing it up and adding the mother-in-law suite.
Thank you Paul,It is so beautiful the ceiling decor the stained glass windows and doors.Even the renovations looks nice.I can't wait for the next video.💛🤎
I lived in an old house like this for a couple of years. All I remember is how bloody cold it was during winter with no insulation in the walls and ceilings 🥶
Homes like this make a mockery of what passes for a house these days. Craftsman/artisans, that’s the calibre of workmanship that was not uncommon in those days. I doubt very much that more than 20% of so called builders today could replicate this standard of work. Once these houses are gone, we will never see the likes of them again.
Paul how can you possibly go through places like this without shedding tears? I couldn't have videoed this without crying. Such a beautiful home. Such a shame...
Lordy Paul,I'm here in Fenton,Missouri crying over this beautiful home, the woodwork an glass is breathtaking...I can't imagine how overwhelmed you are being there an seeing this first hand.Thank you for sharing. Hugs
The shape and feel of the details from floor to midway up the wall to the ceiling is so consistently repeated and so thoughtfully designed ... a delight to the eye. The shapes around the window corners, the non-intrusive little wall shelves placed in such convenient places is such a sweet touch. I can imagine coming in the front door and setting down the keys for a moment, or picking up a letter propped by the door waiting to be taken out to mail in the morning.
My goodness such a shame to loose that beautiful home, thanks for another great explore. Also Royal Park Salvage seem to be the number one salvage company in Adelaide i see them everywhere. Have a great week ☺️
Hi Neets 😊 yes royal Park salvage us for sure the biggest I think. I have so many photos with their trucks and machines in the foreground or background. Thanks for watching and the support 😊👍
Thanks Paul! Another brilliant and thoughtful presentation. All that history, hopes & dreams gone in the stroke of a bureaucrat's pen. Any wonder we do not like politicians???
What a lovely home & seemed well looked after, it such a shame it has been demolished, I loved the ceilings, the loss of so many of these homes which never can be replaced it's a shame.
Such a charming old home with loads of character. The granny flat was in mint condition it’s so sad to see it being demolished.Catch you next week Paul take care cheers.
Beautiful home, love the cornice work. Those light fittings look original absolutely spectacular , it's a pity you don't see the intricate design on them. Friends of mine put a light fitting like that in auction and got over $3000 for it. Some were crafted by a renowned glass maker. But I'd be happy to have them in my house to enjoy their beauty. Thanks Paul great work. Cheers Jenny Adelaide South Australia
Thanks for sharing this with me paul i really enjoyed it i always show your channel support i am from the U.S.A and i gave you a thumbs up and shared you out on my community tab and God Bless.
Good morning Paul, what a wonderful old home, not a house but a home. I can't imagine what the owner thought to see it demolished. So much work it getting it to that. And now going to be a heap of concrete put in place. .cheers deb
😮😮😮How in the world would anyone have the heart to destroy that beautiful place!!?!?! I wish they could have found a way to keep it-I almost couldn’t watch but just had to see these beautiful interiors!!😢Wow
Beautiful home and Art Deco features....all the gorgeous vintage homes you've shown! Makes you wonder (ie.with so much historic architectual loss in this area) if sufficient thought etc was put into (by Govt/area planners, whoever) finding ANY possible recourse for this tunnel solution alternative??!
I would hope that someone would salvage that beautiful wood trim around the interior doors, the entry doors and windows. There isn't wood like that any longer.
Absolutely beautiful home. Can you tell me why the trim in the hallway has a shelf on all of it? I thought the shelf next to the door was a good idea so you could put keys or mail on it but what is the rest for?
It's to put decorations on...things like photo frames, vases, statues or clocks. Also many have a coat hanging area under the shelf and above keys, letters and other things can be put there.
Hi, how do you find the history of homeowners and the house? I live in an 1880's house in the Blue Mountains that I would like to know more about. Any hints appreciated
Hi Michelle 🙂 well for starters the suburbs of the major cities are far easier to dig up names attached to addresses as the old street directories are available on line up to 1973 at least in Adelaide anyway. Also SA let's you search for old land titles for free too. Sometimes you have to dig deeper though and pay. Once have the names I get on ancestry and look for info mentioning place of residence and a lot of the time these are electoral roll records attached to the family trees. I think as your are in the Blue mountains and such and old home that land title searching would be your best bet to find the names 🙂
Paul- this JUST occurred to me, for some reason- why don't the owners gut it, before they leave? If it was me, I would take the flooring, cabinets, stained glass, anything, as well as anything landscaping that I could have removed and transferred somewhere else. That also brings me to another question- do they salvage the landscaping on these properties? I know it would cost a bit to move the trees, but it would be worth it, especially for people who need trees, but can't afford them- big trees are really expensive, as you well know- moving them is, as well, but I would gladly pay. Also, if the tree is sentimental to you- I would gladly pay to move it, or them, or any of the landscaping- the fruit trees are amazing- as are all of the other things I have seen in some of these backyards. It makes me so ill to see this, these poor people- but I would feel better salvaging my own home. Thank you for another great explore!!!! How are your cats????--SDK
Great points you raise here SDK. I think they have to negotiate with government if they want to salvage from the home as the government is purchasing the home off them and then they allow the salvage companies to make offers. As for the trees I am sure some have been relocated in the past but I have seen so many nice ones just torn down. Yes the cats are all well, been meaning to get them all in a video again! 🙂😒🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈
I wonder why they didn't move the best homes at least! Where I live they wanted to build a new hospital maybe 30 years ago now. Some of the houses were torn down but some were moved to other locations and continue to have a long life!
It might not seem like it due to these videos but Adelaide actually has a lot of homes like this left throughout the city and most are kept in pristine condition and lived in. Mostly damaged (shifted foundations) houses are demolished because they're just too far gone to repair and government acquisition in Adelaide is quite rare. Contrary to what these videos show, Adelaide is one city in Australia that has not built many major road projects...especially within the built up areas...there was no motorways/interstates/freeways anywhere within any old suburban areas from before the 60's/ 70's and the only one road that could kind-of be called any sort of motorway is the one this tunnel is for which is South Road. South Road is the most important road in the entire state and they are trying to lessen the damage to houses and businesses as much as possible (that is why most of it is goint to be underground) but the old road was quite narrow and extremely congested so they needed the space to create connections from the tunnel to the surrounding streets and roads.
Thankyou Steven for the reality check from a fellow local. I agree with everything you have said and I am refreshed by the lack of "tunnel rhetoric" Good one. I did attempt to point out to Paul that this upgrade was overdue and necessary and that the loss of our old homes is in fact due mainly to private development. I was met with a pretty condescending response. I don't think this fits in with his business model. It's a bit like "don't let the truth get in the way of a good story" or video...
I'm ready for more abandoned houses in Adelaide and this is a really nice Art deco style house here especially on the inside with the spacious look of it and is another house ready to be demolished for the tunnel of course until next Saturday with another house about to be torn down there have a nice week and thanks again.🏚🇦🇺🏠

Awful that governments can do this and then the world is littered with modern new builds with no character, bland and boring and they are built in no time. I know a tunnel is going in this area and that’s just as bad if not worse

Thanks MM, glad you enjoyed the history! Cheers for watching and the support 🙂👍
@urbexindigo5164 Vids are great on their own, but a mini history lesson is always a plus. Thanks again . MM :)
I had a cat named Percy, he was blind but did get around and liked climbin trees. No lie.
That's awesome John! Love my cat's! 👍🙂🐈🐈🐈
Beautiful home. I would have been heart broken when I was told I had to move. The renovations would have only been done maximum of 8 years.

It's a shame that house had to be bulldozed. It was well kept and pretty 😢
The design of that hallway fretwork seems to be pushing towards Art Nouveau style.
Art Deco 1925-1940 when artisans were inspired by the treasures within Tutankhamuns tomb opened in 1922
