- The making of a Damascus steel gyuto chef knife from start to finish. Cutting the grooves took a while but the resulting pattern was worth it. Thanks for watching!

Working on a new video out soon!
I LOVE when people ACTUALLY make the knives/blades rather than taking some metal, tracing an outline of a blade, then cutting it out. You get to see their entire craft on display. So for that, thank you!❤
Thanks for watching. Yes there's more control over the steel when forging the shape and much less cutting!
And no stupid music in background , only machine sound and hammer
@@petar_mrkonjicthank God lol
OMFG, what a beauty! 😍
Thanks 🙌
Work of art
Wow, what a freakin beauty!!
Thanks
These sound.. Ohhhh. Great work. Awesome
Thanks much appreciated
What an exceptional blade, and the handle is beautiful
A truly remarkable piece, an exquisite knife. I love the grind as much as the pattern.
Simply outstanding
Frikun.amazing work!!! Phenomenal job hey
Thanks for watching!
Мастер,не знаю как тебя зову и из какой ты страны,но это просто шедевр!!!Ты реально МАСТЕР!!!В полном понимании этого слова!!Респект огромнейший!
Thanks you very much for watching it's much appreciated!🙌
Absolutely phenomenal. Keep them coming 🍻
Thanks! Will do!
Beautiful
Oh my god. You actually forged a knife beginning to end and it came out amazing. Everyone else on RUclips just grinds a knife shape out of a straight, flat piece of metal and they call it “making a knife” once they put a handle on it. Nice job, your talent is very evident.
Thanks much appreciated. Also thanks for watching more videos on the way!
Yeah it's called stock removal and it's just generally faster and easier, more consistent, and for some types of Damascus also necessary.
@@anthonymullings8539 I’m aware of that
that's some fine craftmanship. beautiful knife
Thanks for watching
lovely work Lew.
Thank you! Cheers!
One of the best ladder patterns I’ve seen
Thanks for watching
Brutal master 👏
Wow fantastic work. A work of art
Thank you much appreciated
Absolutely beautiful! What I wouldn't do to have something like that in my knife bag. Been a cook for 30 years now. I have some ok knives, but nothing like that ! Live it !
Great job! Amazing work!
Love seeing power hammers and hand hammers finishing out the blade. Absolutely magnificent work.
Thanks for watching it's much appreciated!
Stunning
Thank you! Cheers!
Another amazing knife. Glad my fiancée managed to snag one for me from your site. Keep them coming!
Great to hear one reached your kitchen!
You are one hell of a craftsman, that blade is beautiful
Beautiful knife!
You can see the ole press grunting the more layers you got . 😁 Good job man. 👍
You got that right!
Exceptional! Beautifully done. Thank you.
Many thanks!
The crusty part of the blade is visually interesting but there could be food safety issues. I prefer the more subtle pre-coffee pattern... superb knife.
Beautiful work!
Absolutely beautiful... Art at it's finest.
Thank you! Cheers!
Bad ass,great work
Nice work. I’m not very OCD but at the same time that broken fire brick would annoy the crap out of me.
Every time I replace it breaks within a few days!
very beautiful knife!
Gorgeous work.
Thank you very much!

Thanks for watching 🙏 I like how it turned out also!
That’s the most beautiful knife I have ever seen. I’m a chef and I would love to work with that beauty. ❤
Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought he was making a coffee lol 🤦🏽♂️
Strong coffee!
Now THAT’S a knife!!! ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! 👌😎💥👊🤩💥🤘😎
Thanks for watching much appreciated 🙏
@@lewgriffinknives216 I loved every minute of it!! There’s a very meditative quality to watching you hammer out the billet and shape the knife!! The Damascus patterns are just stunning! Can’t wait to see more!! 🙏😇💯❤️❤️❤️

ШЕДЕВР!!!
Good gopa
Wonderful, i recommend to do C grind , it's most efficient technically
Thanks. I prefer s-grind for balance but might give it a try
SUBLIME !!!
Fantastic work!!...Subbed
Thanks for the sub!
好喜歡你造刀的風格 😊😊😊😊
I love it when a knife was hammered into shape like this. getting real tired when the knife makers just cut the metal into knife shape.
That spinning whetstone is rad.
Works a treat!
god job brother❤❤❤❤
Очень достойный уровень. Нож получился очень красивый. Видна рука мастера.
Hey, Lew, can you make another one after lunch please
Coming right up
Lindíssima

wow
🔥
🙌
That’s a dirty little birdy wizard
I’d buy it
3:25 If you have an old radial arm saw or a table saw, you could rig it up with a metal blade to cut perfectly accurate ladder patterns.
It's a good idea, I was thinking of something similar at the time when my arms were tired!
Hola! cuantas veces podes usar el Café? y otra pregunta lo usas caliente?
Once and at room temperature
where did you buy your power hammer and press?
What type of wood did you use man this look beautiful
Maple burl and bog oak
👍👍👍
Hello. Good day to you. You did a great job. What liquid did you use in the tube to make the blade emboss the pattern? Is that engine oil/Lubricant? Thank you
Thanks it's diesel
Super Video echt tolle Arbeit frage was für einen Kleber nehmen sie für den Griff
It was boat building epoxy resin
Dude did you make your press off of plans? I have a big chunk of I beam I’m wanting to make a press out of.. I’m currently using a log splitter converter to a press, and it’s alright but I need more rigidity
Followed some plans found online but changed most of the measurements to fit what I had. Takes some time to get it welded up but definitely worth it, best of luck with it!
What a beautiful knife. How much does a knife like that cost?
Thanks, check out my website. Link in description and bio
I could do this if I had all the equipment
Good for you.
👍🏻😎
Great work sir. Could u tell me in what solution you are dipping the bar in?
An acid called gator piss
@@lewgriffinknives216 i mean when you are forging the billet. I see the billet going in some solution before going in to the press.
Fireplace ashes are cheaper and work better than vermiculite.
Forge On!!!
Nice to see someone forge a blade. Stock removal vids really suck and there are millions of them.
Tried some ashes before but they soaked up moisture got damp but it could where I stored them was wet. Might try again.
Thanks nice to see those who know the difference! 🙌
That is a good point. Im in Central California and the humidity is really low. I leave bare steel in my garage for years and it never rusts.
Доброго времени суток
Как , где и за сколько можно купить этот шедевральный нож?
👍
Cant you add in your videos what stuff you are using?
In the video description there's some info
What finish do you apply on the handle?
A mixture of beeswax and raw linseed oil
first of all, so cool! thanks for sharing
6:14 what is happening here?
Thanks for watching! Slow cooling the steel to reduce stress
@@lewgriffinknives216 What material are those pieces?
make a karambit please
What is the purpose of beating on the blade after annealing? Isn't the point of annealing to realign the grain structure after forging? Curious.
To remove forge scale quickly, the annealing makes the steel soft so it's not damaged. Normalizing just above quenching temperature before hardening keeps the blade straight from any stress caused by hammering
Thank you for the answer! Masterful job on this blade! It is stunning!
