SOS Doctor Gundry! Why does vitamin D3 disrupt my sleep, and what can I do about it? I also take K2 and magnesium. The most vitamin D3 I've taken is 5k. However, no matter what the dose, it still disrupts my sleep. I really need vitamin D because my level is low and I live in the Northeast. When I tell my doctors, including my integrative medicine doctor, they brush it off and tell me it shouldn't do that, but it does.

    prompt
If I lack intrinsic factor, I must take methylated B12 sublingually.
Do I also have to take methylated B9 sublingually?
    How about methylated B6?
    ChatGPT 4o
If you lack intrinsic factor, it specifically affects your body’s ability to absorb vitamin B12 (cobalamin) in the gut. This is why taking methylated B12 sublingually or via injection is necessary, as it bypasses the gastrointestinal system.
Regarding methylated B9 (folate) and B6 (pyridoxine), here’s how they differ:
    Methylated B9 (Folate)
    • Intrinsic factor is not involved in folate absorption. Folate (including methylated forms like methylfolate or 5-MTHF) is absorbed directly in the small intestine without relying on intrinsic factor.
    • If you don’t have a condition affecting folate absorption (e.g., celiac disease, certain medications, or genetic mutations like MTHFR), you can typically take methylated folate in standard oral form.
    • Sublingual forms of methylfolate are not required unless you have difficulty absorbing nutrients via your gut.
    Methylated B6 (Pyridoxine or P-5-P)
    • Similar to folate, intrinsic factor is not required for vitamin B6 absorption.
    • Most people can absorb B6 (including its active form, pyridoxal-5’-phosphate or P-5-P) through the gut unless there are specific gastrointestinal conditions impairing absorption.
    Key Recommendations
    1. Sublingual B12 is critical due to the lack of intrinsic factor.
    2. Oral forms of methylated B9 (methylfolate) and B6 (P-5-P) are usually sufficient unless there are additional absorption issues.
    3. Exceptions: If you have significant gastrointestinal absorption issues (e.g., severe gut disease, surgery, or medication interference), you might need sublingual or injected forms of these vitamins.
Would you like specific dosing guidance or further clarification?
