- Short clip where Cohen discusses his relation with Zen teacher Joshu Sasaki Roshi. I love his last point. (from Irish music magazine programme Last Broadcast on RTÉ One. Capped circa 2004)
Thanks i too am Irish but did'nt get to see this, nice one for posting it.thanks
Fascinating...and yes, that last point is intiguingly put...the nature of friendship...when who you were or are no longer defines the connection and the relationship.
So sad that Roshi's legacy was tarnished by all the sexual assault accusations. I wonder what Lenny thought about them, if they put a dent on their friendship...
I imagine he concurred with the corruption if his last album song confessions are to be believed. But you know this caste is always hidden by their ‘context’.
I have read a lot of old Sasaki's sermons form Zen Notes. Of all the teachers in the West he knows Zen the best in that he is most consistent with the Chinese and Korean masters.
I wonder what " I can no longer help you " or whatever he writes in that postcard. As in, I´ve always wondered just how much this "adventure"/"rehab" costed Cohen .
Great learning days with a Great Zen teacher!
Kyozan Sasaki Roshi was an incredible presence. I was fortunate enough to do a 3 day sesshin with him. A great teacher whose words were from direct experience.
And if you were an attractive female with a nice "rack" you'd think differently. "Higher" teachings for his 'advanced' female students??? BS.
A female student of his told him to keep his hands off. What Roshi was putting his hands on was for boyfriend only. She related this too me. The old fart was like very handy. Never called on it. The rocks that came down from the hillside onto the roof of his cabin used to scare him. Karma trying to get him.
Beautiful. I love this guy.
He hypocrite Jew.
@@johnr.b.murray3417 so you're obviously not a hypocrite. I know I am.
@@ernesttomic3250 You Know Who I am.
@@johnr.b.murray3417 I have absolutely no idea.
I love too
I see on your video this was broadcast on Irish tv. I'm raging I missed it. Can you remember the title of the full programme?
High talk and easy pleasures that Sasaki guy
Not at all. It was a simple doubt, lived...compassionate for people who dreams to go 'beyond the beyond'.
believe that Cohen had major addiction problems (alcoholic or otherwise) so he self-exiled by imposing strict rules and distancing himself from his usual scene. As for his friendship with Roshi, I think he was grateful to him. I don't think that Roshi was a saint nor was he particularly gifted, I rather think that he was a person who knew how to sell himself well and that in those times and places there were many rich and scared people.
Cohen drank a lot and brought lots of expensive alcohol with him to mt Baldy.
You are correct.
Where can i watch all of that ?
Sorry but I don't know. This specific music magazine episode is from 10 years ago and I don't have a copy. The Mount Baldy footage and the interview come from other documentaries. Maybe you'll find them on RUclips. Have a look at this excerpt: ruclips.net/video/7lwwbSLcO3A/видео.html
RIP brother Cohen.

Not delectable, but a little bit dangerous for ordinary people (99,99% of the world)...

Not delicious? I thought you were licking your chops.
Mmm!! Is it that delectable?
!!!
He speaks of the ‘Protocols’ of Zion and then corrupts Zen Buddhism with the same smear.
I red the interview of sasaki roshi in ny times
I think this: zen buddhist practice is the best to reach meditative mind
