  • I had planned to do this one as a wild camp, but as you will see in the video, it ended up as just a day walk, but what a lovely walk it was!
    This was a 7 mile walk that I completed on my own on a really warm and sunny day in February.
    The walk featured a long stretch along the river Medway, on the outskirts of Maidstone in Kent. I visited the villages of West and East Farleigh, Farleigh Green and Teston.

    I'm always wary of wildcamping near a river. In Scotland I once got a 3am wake up call on my tent. At the time I thought he was a nutter because he just banged on my tent. When I opened up he just looked inside the tent and asked me if I was on The West Highland Way. When I replied yes he just asked to shake my hand and trotted off into the woods with 1100 lumens of my ThruNite blazing him up. I was wildcamping with a German girl I had met on the way and he was also banging on her tent too before mine. She wisely didn't respond and got her 🔪 out! It turns out this SOAB was a river bailief looking for poachers but I only found this out a year later when I passed through the area again and saw the sign on the 🌲 saying these people patrol the area day and all hours of the night. He never identified himself so he could havef still been a nutter and it's safe to say I've never wild camped anywhere near that river again! 😂

      snowy matrix wow that's some story mate lol you've just put me off rivers I think haha! Sounds creepy. They should really carry identification. Good use of the thru nite headlight though, initially blind and stun your would be attacker. Then just go for the balls, this isn't meant to be pretty. Fight dirty lol. Cheers for watching mate.

      TOM OUTDOORS yeah mate It never put me off wild camping but I can say I didn't sleep another wink that night until dawn when I got another hour or two! After he scurried off into the woods I got fully dressed and put on my boots ready to fight if he came back. This is why I carry high powered torches in all my backpacks! That stobe light in his eyes would have given me an edge in the darkness of the woods!

    Very nice Tom and I remember that sunny time in February. Liked the Tickled Trout Pub, brilliant seven mile walk. PS can’t stand cider, it’s BEER only for me and nothing below 6%. Cheers Tom.

    An interesting area for walking, and plenty of pubs open! I know exactly how you feel about wildcamping, sometimes it's not worth the hassle, especially if hidden away in the woods away from river. The sheer amount of signage saying private/keep out does play on the mind, atb Shaun

    So Tom, have you considered taking on any of the long distance paths that permit( or at least don't mind ) wild camping? I'm sure you'd be happy as a pig in poo and I know I'd watch every vid that you produced from it. As for this one(enjoyed it very much by the way)I have day fished from the bank about 20metres from the bridge that you started your walk from and although it was a very beautiful area it did appear to be very 'owned and heavily managed' so I'm not at all surprised that you felt apprehensive about a wild one, still, next time eh !

    • @TOM_OUTDOORS
      @TOM_OUTDOORS  6 лет назад

      Yeah I've done that before in my older video's. If work permits really . I just about have the time to do what I do now.

      didnt end up doing it mate. tbh you were the only person who sounded interested in entering it. had no support for it. i may do one if and when i get to 2000 subs, but if no one cares, there's no point.
