To be liked by almost everyone your music has to be basic to some level. It’s why artists like Lana will never be seen as the best artist of a time because some people don’t like how the music has a specific audience
This album was the best debut to psych rock I could have ever asked for and I didn’t even know to ask. Lana is a teacher, a poet, a philosopher, and one of the best vocalists in her generation all in one.
jim represents this cult leader figure to her, like jim jones from the jonestown massacre where more than 900 people comitted suicide together by drinking poisoned juice. it's a man that she sees like that: captivating, seducer, but mean and cruel (and she liked it - because in those cults, people were blind for their leader. she has been on cults, she said that once. but she stepped out of it once she realized how fucked up it was. so i think it's about all that. in fact, the videoclip for that song was supposed to be her and a bunch of girls surrounding this cult leader man that looked just like charles manson and drinking "juice" together. but the record label thought it was too much and didn't let her do it, so it became the video for "freak", another song of hers.
Old money with that violins reminds me the typical instrument Born to Die. Also the:”The kids were Young and pretty” (At the start) she reference after with:”And we were young and pretty” (At the end). This is how The time passes away so fast then we expect.
Thanks for reaction.. About Pretty When You Cry. Someone (maybe ex) said to Lana that you are pretty when you cry. Therefore, the title is with "You" and in the song it is "I"
Great video. I enjoy your analysis and commentary and you've got a great sense of humor. Looking forward to all your Lana reactions. Keep up the great work!
I highly recommend reading shades of cool from perspective of someone who’s already dead (like, died in born to die) and „cant break through your world” or praying for someone new is getting a whole new meaning
this is my favorite album of all time. It really hits different though when you're driving through the mountains on a sunny day (I discovered born to die and ultraviolence shortly after moving to colorado). If you ever have the opportunity to hike above treeline while listening to this album, DO IT, you will not be disappointed.
About your recent video : that was Lana's first time appearing on us TV and from an unknown artist she suddenly is an artist that is being broadcasted and is being watched by millions ! This is her first ever performance and of course she is going to be nervous , she wants to show off her beauty but at the same time sound good ! She plays with her hair alot , she can't control her excitement so she sounds like a country singer at some parts , shakira some parts . It's normal to mess up when you're nervous ! So many people laughed at her and made fun of her which was really sad ! But gues what ? Now she's the artist who has won ARTIST OF THE DECADE award and is known to be THE MOST INFLUENTIAL ARTIST IN POP and people anticipate her album and are waiting for her to tour again !! Lana can sing and yo prove that after this performance she released ultraviolence which was all recorded at one take without any recording agains!! She did mess up this one particular performance but this doesn't mean she can't sing or is a bad performer
ok so im really excited to ur honeymoon reaction. it's a waters divisor. or u like it, or u hate it. it's slow. very different from ultraviolence. born to die = rap/trap/hip hop influences. ultraviolence = rock. honeymonn?? jazz. just pure blues and jazz. hope you like it. but take my warning: it's very slow. and beautiful and jazzy. and sad too.
beat poetry/beat generation was a literary movement from the late 40s who was originated in new york, between brooklyn and hell's kitchen, it was a group of poets that lived a la boheme (the most famous are Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, Gregory Corso and William S. Burroughs to name a few) so not really about rap, in this case.
This is my favorite Lana del Rey album. and contains my favorite song of hers (Pretty when you cry). I absolutely loved your reaction, keep going man, I can’t wait to see Honeymoon (my 2nd fav album lmao)❤❤

"Fucked my way up to the top" is actually a snarky response to Lorde saying Lana fucked her way up to the top

lana has a great relationship with her father, actually. the real issue for her has always been her mommy. she has mommy issues (ironic dont u think?)
