You dont have to be a dirty player to make a dirty play. That was uncalled for. Hopefully GPII recovers quickly.

He didn't even elevate nor was his eye on the ball. Dirty play. Feel bad for Gary Payton II and hopefully he has a speedy recovery.
I agree. He never looked at the ball and was more worried about where he was going to land. I know every team has a player to make "dirty plays", but sometimes they take it too far. Bad play for sure.
GS fans are so blind!!
@@jimmieleepatterson it was obvious a dirty play his teammates aren't even try to block it because they it's a free lay up or dunk they gave uo on the play until Brook still charge to it, it's so obvious, you just don't like or probably hate the Warriors that's why you saying that.
That’s what I was saying. He had no chance to block that he just wanted to hard foul and Ja already fouled him.
Learned it from watching Draymond for his entire career.
The problem is Brooks never looked at the ball. I will leave it at that.
Kinda like when Draymond grabbed the dude jersey pulling him off balance after he already smacked him in the face in midair.
@@Kyles1983 yes
God Be the Glory.
When you start something you finish it. Brooks did it on purpose. If anyone still have doubt if Brooks didn't do it who did?
@@Kyles1983 never said it was right. Both were intentional. But going full speed into a defenseless player without any regard of making a defensive play is what should warrant a game suspension regardless of the outcome.
@@stevenbalmir4628 yeah he fouled him hard but GP2 arm doesn’t break if he doesn’t extend it when he’s landing.
As Shaq said. He didn't even jump! He wasn't trying to block it
This is the key. Not jumping = dirty play.
He didn’t have to jump bc the Payton is very short
ZaZa did jump. So not dirty?
He was definitely trying for a hard foul was he trying to right hook him in the mouth I don't think so, yeah brooks can't replicate the McHale Play it's not a good look but at the same time I can't imagine being a role player and getting burnt in the playoffs, he was moving like his job was one the line because it very well could be
@@ladyj5682 Brooks is only 3 inches taller. If Payton is "very short" then Brooks is "short"🤦
Crazy. We had GP in the starting lineup to guard Ja and he goes for 47. Its odd to say but a major loss for the series. Made Draymond’s look like a common foul
The story might change if he didn't go to that silly play . He might strike three's and felton didn't become a defensive machine .

@@lazygoose1945 No kidding
I played basketball for over 20 years and not once did I go for a block and not watch the ball. Brooks didn’t even look towards the ball. As he swings he is looking to his left when he makes contact. Go watch it again. You’ll see Brooks absolutely intentionally hit him. Out of frustration, pride, malice, who knows. But at some point the league will need to truly step in and analyze intention on a deeper level. As Coach Kerr mentioned, these types of moments end careers. And I guarantee this code is not honored in certain groups of players within organizations. At least its not respected. I’m sick and tired of the league and media not keeping these types of plays accountable. In ANY other field, this is assault.
Lol you played for 20 years but get no buckets
Brooks didn’t jump, he wound up and if he was aiming for the ball he probably would’ve hit GP on his arm or wrist, not his head. Also he had his hand on Payton’s lower back. That’s 100% a dirty play.
if brooks gonna do that please break klays leg one more time. Amen
I don’t think so IMO but u can say whatever
his had was up near gp's hands he hit him with his forearm it a clearly unintentional
I dont think there was a dramatic wind up as if he intend his hand to hit Payton in the head and only in the head. Can you sit there and tell me honestly that the only place Dillion's hand could have been going was his head and that he intentional and with a malice of forethought swung for Payton head?
Exactly. It’s dirty in today’s game. If this was 1984 then okay but we are talking about today in 2022. Brooks should definitely be suspended
Brooks got no elevation that would have given a chance to hit ball and still swung
Its a flagrant 1
But you kno who wanted this type of style? Draymond
exactly brooks just didn't get up enough he won't mean to
So obvious he meant to take him out
That's what I'm saying
Exactly, show me a chase down block where someone is jumping less than a foot off the air. Dirty play
What I can say about that play is. I do not believe that he was trying to "block" the shot like Shaq is saying. If you're trying to "block" a shot you have to at least jump, he just ran and swung. Didn't elevate at all.
Not only did he NOT jump ...If u watch the replay, He didn't even look up at the ball. So he wasn't focused on blocking anything. He just made sure to hit GPII which is lame while he's up in the air.
@@universe.factory if that was an honest try to block, Brooks belongs in the D-League because he is completely incompetent.
You guys act like Dillon has superhero abilities. He was going full speed and wild.
Extremely ignorant thing to say. Not only was the play not dirty, but it was only a F1…no argument for an F2 the refs only issued that because of greens F2 last game
ZaZa jumped. So?
No where near "blocking" the shot, defs just swung at him. Charles said he doesn't have the reputation, this is exactly how you EARN that reputation. Guy didn't even look at the ball!
One play does not define you. If it happens multiple times then yes. He has always been an aggressive defender. He did not intentially do it.
@@TruePersianPrince you literally have no way to know what his intentions were, and honestly they dont even matter.
I feel for GPII. He found a home in the NBA and his team trusted him on the big stage. GPII is fun to watch and became a GSW fan favorite. I hope he has a speedy recovery.
No doubt that Brooks didn't intend to cause Payton that injury, but he was so wreckless in his foul "attempt" that he should be suspended for it. You ain't playing hockey
I agree. He’s a scrub who knew he had no chance and stopping the dunk but chose to smack him on the side of the head regardless. Everybody compares this to Draymond but he didn’t end anyone career by his dirtiness.0
You can tell by his actions that he didnt care if he did though.
No suspension should be given. Those fouls were considered hard playoff fouls no longer than ten years ago. Payton broke his arm because he tried to break his fall
@@vincegonzalez6804 nah it was neglectful and lazy..you don't do that period..you can tell he went the lazy route not caring about his health or fall, and that warrants suspension..People need to think more and not just lazily swipe, he could have defended that in other ways..
@@vincegonzalez6804 yes let's blame a man getting absolutely obliterated mid air for breaking his elbow
I have no idea about brooks being dirty or not. But he wasn't looking at the ball. He was looking at putting gp2 down
i'm surprised no one mentioned that obvious fact. Most players would jump high and attempt to block the shot and if they want to make it a hard foul fine, but the guy hardly jumped and more importantly didn't look at the ball, he was looking away. That's a clear enough indication that it was an inappropriate swing at best, and a malicious swing at worst.
Yup, he never once looked at the ball. Ran straight ahead and looked away at the end trying to pretend he wasn't intentionally trying to club him
@@mkvp3794 for sure. They must've looked at the tape from the last game and figured out that gp2 was locking JA on the offense. He's the only chance that team has to beat the dubs. Take out gp2 and the defense starts to crumble
Pretty obvious if you've ever watched basketball that's not what a chase down block looks like.
@@Alic4444 it was more like a chase down beatdown
Kenny always trying to come up with a different, sometimes deeper perspective than everyone else...
under normal circumstances i would understand chuck saying don’t try to catch yourself when you’re falling, but GP’s head and neck got knocked around which most definitely disoriented him and was probably a reflex
It was a dirty play. He may not be a dirty player, but it was a dirty play. At best you can say it was a really bad block attempt that he completely mistimed. But the guy also didn't even bother trying to jump, he just loaded up and swung then clocked a guy in the back on the head. He wasn't even close to the ball. He should just be suspended for the rest of this series really.
💯🎯
Yeah, he didn't even try to catch GP2. Ugh

pretty sure I didnt hear Kerr saying 'Zaza broke the code' when he LITERALLY took the career of a superstar out.
If Brooks had snap GP2's neck or fractured his skull sure....but this was all on GP's landing, which he had control of.
Didn't he just try to protect Draymond in game 1 for the same DIRTY play, Sooooo did Draymond break the code 🤔

@Sam0 B00 bro we are comparing it some flagrant fouls of draymond and zaza. In this case, chuck mentioned it that he shouldn't have extended his arm which is btw within his control. He will still fall though. Don't get me wrong, I think his foul is still dirty but nowhere compared to zaza's and draymonds.

We've all did a blind swing at the ball before he's going full speed trying to literally block it would be a worst injury. It's not like he pushed him
Brooks took out GP so that JA could go off and it worked.
Reputation is irrelevant. It was a dirty play. Brooks isn't even looking at the ball, he's not reaching for the ball, and he didn't even jump to block the shot. The club across the head and neck was a dirty way to stop the play. Just don't cause you don't have a reputation of being a dirty player doesn't mean you can't make a dirty play.
I agree he is not looking for a block there thats just mere malice intention to hurt GP2
just bad for him he did it,,, brook is a good player 2 way
Consider this: Compare this play to a College football play whereas "Targeting" (forceful contact to the head or neck area) is determined to have occurred. It's all about player safety. The contact DOES NOT have to be intentional. The contact ONLY has to 1) Have Occurred and 2) Be deemed as forceful or unnecessary. If this criteria is determined upon replay; the offending player is ejected from the game. Essentially, same rule is enforced in the NBA via a Flagrant 2 foul. That's why Brooks was shown the door.

It was a dirty play. Old schoolers wanna cite the "good ol' days" when this stuff was the norm, but it was dirty then as it is now.

I’m really surprised these guys didn’t speak on the seriousness of this play, “don’t put your arm out” “Dylan isn’t a dirty player” well he is now and in mad you instantly put the blame on GP2 for how he landed versus placing full blame on why he had to land that way. Terrible take from these guys.
Did you want them to speak out about the seriousness of Draymond’s foul in game 1?
It’s almost as if they’re speaking for the league as they don’t want to suspend him to keep the series going. More games, more money. Sad to see them supporting the owners rather than the players.
I don't think it's blaming GP2 per se, it's just tips on how to minimise likelihood of injuries. Cos as explosive athlete, sometimes you'll get people knocking you out of the air. It doesn't excuse the play, and Brooks should have never done it because it was dangerous, but you can't control your opponents actions. You can, however, try to minimize your risk of injury when you end up in such situations.
As just a fan of basketball who has no stake in who wins in this series I think the take by the analysts was appropriate. It’s unfortunate he got hurt, no one wants to see that. This was a physical playoff game. There’s a difference between a dirty play and a dirty player. This was a dirty play. Kenny’s take was the most accurate, he tried to play no layup D and commit a hard foul but his inexperience led to a player being hurt because he didn’t anticipate in real time how it would affect him in the air. Not a single analyst said anything blaming GP2. They just said when you’re in that situation to try to fall differently to lessen the likelihood of injury. They gave an unbiased opinion.
There asking a guy to have more control of his body when he is completely out of control.
Didn’t hear anything from Steve Kerr after ZaZa put his foot under Kawhi’s landing space in the Western Conference Semi’s a few years ago
Feel bad for Gary Payton II , he’s one of their best overall defenders and it’s truly sad to see one of their men down especially that early on in the game . that was PARTICULARLY dirty and I think it was intentional in most cases , getting someone like that in mid air, that’s just unbelievable and brutal
At this point it’s not about he is the best defender, the guy was going to get some money after not being able to find a team and this is a threatening injury, I feel mad and sad for GP2
Suspend him. GP2’s head went all sideways. Purpose or not, that was a flagrant 4.

According to Chuck, "Dillon Brooks is not a dirty player because he doesn't have that reputation." So, we dismiss that this was a dirty play, and he still doesn't have this "reputation". And next time, when something similar happens, he's still not a dirty player, because he doesn't have that reputation... Only glaring flaw in Charles’ perspective is that there’s always a “first offense” in developing a reputation.

If it was player with a history of dirty plays did this, they would've been suspended a couple of games.
Goes to show how much reputation affects the punishment and media reaction.
Well I mean if a player has a history of dirty plays then you would assume that it’s gonna happen a lot, but I feel like if they’re a first offender then it’s different, sort of like if your pulled over and you’ve got no prior offences you get let off with a warning, I’m not trying to defend the play, it was horrible, but that’s my understanding of the context if he isn’t suspended, cause like it just shows he’s not a dirty player and it was an accident rather then someone like Grayson Allen who has a history so you know it’s intentional, I respect what you mean tho

I know. But I think its a good distinction to make a difference between intentionally or not.
Gary Payton ll is a very likeable dude so I am very sad how this went down. Does Brandon Clarke have something to say about this situation or is this just a regular basketball play?
Brandon Clarke didn't even get a scratch, Green caught him and Clarke was flopping all game anyway. Green's a bit too nice, should have just let Clarke hit the ground like he does. If Green is going to get himself ejected over something that soft, at least take the guy out for the series. Yeah, yeah, immature comment, but Brooks' ejection is a slap on the wrist because GP2 got injured and is now out for the rest of the series while Brooks gets to play in game 3.
@@eksentrysyti GP II is potentially out for the season depending on the the severity of the injury. Also I do not wish for Brandon Clarke to be injured, I just wish NBA players would stop being hypocrites all the time.
Prayers for Gary Payton II. Praying 🙏 for a speedy recovery ❤️🩹 on his fractured elbow. Get well Gary!
GP II was playing great hopefully GS will have him back in their roster next year. Heal up GP II 🙏🏾
Mr. barkley, watch carefully the replay. he was never aiming for the ball.. I know GP2 is not the superstar the NBA is protecting but that play is more than flagrant2. You dont need a reputation for it to be an intentional. The fracture was an accident but the intent was there. He never even tried to catch the guy..
How about ZaZa.

I love that Shaq's calling Gary II "nephew"
I dont think he had intent to injure, but either way, the play was reckless.
I really want to think that this was unintentional but it just doesn't feel like a mistake. It's one thing to come close to blocking a shot and narrowly missing but Dillon Brooks didn't come CLOSE to even touching the ball. It's not a typical basketball move from someone legitimately trying to block the shot. Bear hugging or even tackling GP2 would have been a less risky move than to do what he did. It's such a shame that this happened and I'm not for issuing a Flagrant 2 foul because of the way it can alter a game but the refs got this one correct. It was egregious and it made Draymond Green's foul the other night (a Flagrant 1 at BEST) look tame in comparison.
The no layup rule was much easier to enforce in a safe manner before, because you could you wrap the guy even in the air and no hit would have to happen. Now that would constitute a technical foul. So, while the change in the rule makes the no layup “rule” harder to implement, players need to recognize that at some point, that has to mean, move your rear and defend instead of chasing and wildly swing.
Kerr can't call anyone dirty, with all that Draymond has done! And these guys were just defending Draymond.
I don’t remember him causing injury to anyone.
But Ernie, you all "excused" Dillon Brooks with your rationalizations.
Kenny: "His inexperience was the reason he made that hard foul."
Chuck: "It was just an accident" and then proceeds to lecture players on the correct way to fall.
Ernie: "He has a reputation as an aggressive good defender."
Shaq: "I think he was trying to block the shot."
Dillon Brooks, not a rookie, but drafted 5 years ago; playing/watching/studying basketball for at least 13 of his 26 years.
If he was an employee anywhere else, other than the NBA, he would be fired for such reckless and dangerous behavior.
lol. I've seen worse. Payton's injured, because of how he landed. 90's NBA would have you guys in tears.
Brooks is reckless and was certainly dirty.
Hope to see him in these playoffs again
Just because you're not a dirty player does not mean you don't do dirty things which in essence means you are a dirty player you just didn't do anything dirty yet
Or the opportunity didn't present itself yet and this was so aggregious
I can’t stand the Warriors but this was CLEARLY intentional and Brooks needs to be suspended
Karma for all the dirty plays Green made in the past

Dillion Brooks has been a dirty player since college yall just don’t pay attention to him
Cap
Chuck can't name the teams half the players in the NBA are on and he's acting like he know Dylan Brook's whole history 😅
This is sad because they now have no one that can Guard Ja MORANT. He was only person that could effectively make it tough on him and had the lateral quickness to contain and not let him always go downhill to the basket.
Indeed, it was a perfectly planned hit.
Some of you guys out there make no sense to me. You complain about players being soft UNTIL they get hurt. A dirty play is a dirty play. PERIOD.
In summary, he did the wrong thing and hurt a player, ending his season and jeopardizing his season next year. Did he want to try to break his elbow, No. But who cares, his intentions don't matter, he was out of control and I blame his coach and team as much as him.
Yes. Did u say the same thing for ZaZa
So it was Steve Kerr's fault that ZAZA injured Kawhi? And he's also a hypocrite for trying to make light of the foul after the game instead of calling out Zaza for his dirty play right?
@@vincegonzalez6804 So we talking about a different player and something 5 years ago when protecting the landing area wasn't much of a focus as it is now? Stay on topic and stop trying to defend this outrageously dirty play.
@@P31B it’s called comparison. Have u studied law before? Or study in school before?
@@P31B look at urself. How ppl use double standards to defend themselves. Lol. Never running of excuses. So funny.
There was no reason for Brooks to foul on this play, this was not going to be a game winning layup or anything. So early in the game to do it means this was all a built up frustration from game 1. Brooks should be banned for the rest of the series as Payton won't be playing the rest of the playoffs. Punishment should act as a deterrent to future bad plays.
Same applies to Draymond in game 1 then right?
@@Chigz10 No, because Draymond didnt foul in a manner where the other guy was put in a position where he couldnt ease his fall. Payton has a broken elbow. And it is still disputed if Draymond's foul even deserved a flagrant 2, while in Brooks case, noone is seriously doubting that.
How old are u?? Did ZaZa got suspended for the shoe series? Maybe you were not born yet.

It was definitely on purpose
Hes not even looking at the ball,, or jumping thus not trying to block or contest the ball
He looked at this dude the whole time and while following through
He's lucky these people don't see it that way
Cheap shot
Yup, can't block the ball if you're not even looking at it. I'm all for physical play but knocking someone out in mid air is just plain dirty and dangerous
It’s called hacking the layup, no free layups. There wouldn’t even still be a discussion on this if gp knew how to fall

For me I'm gonna go straight and say its a dirty play he already see him going up and he is not even near to the ball to block him he go right to his head....thats a dirty play for me and on what I've seen...I hope GP2 recover good and fast...
Man !! This Grizzlies team get away with everything 😂
Just some Oregon vs Oregon st rivalry playing out in the pros
This was definitely a flagrant II but no where near as intentional as the take down Grayson Allen did to Alex Caruso.
