    Useful tip. I recently started using a limiter (Ozone vintage limiter) on my vocals and It works great for me. As you said, in your face vocals: I'm on punk music.

    I normally slice the peaks and level them down to lower waves. I know this is a very long process, but the result is so much better than compressor or limiter, if are are after perfection :-) This way you can also reduce your plug-in use to minimum.

    I always thought people were absolutely nuts for using limiters on vocals… until I watched this video! Keep 'em coming!

    You are truly a blessing to watch and learn from, thank you so much for this tutorial. I just recently switched to Studio One I'm currently using version 2.6 and I also use Waves for vocals I never thought to use the L1 for vocal tracks. Awesome find bro! I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on stuttering and glitching in Studio One ? It's being done a lot in my genre (Hip-Hop) and haven't been able to find a tutorial for Studio One. Thanks!

    It seems like when using the limiter the transients were softened. It made the attack less.

    What I think is this.... There is a limiter, does nothing only limit the peaks. And there is a maximizer or loudness maximizer with extra gain fader to make up 4 the reduction amount. I think these are actually 2 different plugins. If you use the limiter of ableton live and then the L2 etc, You see the difference.

    what about on drum tracks? will ir work the same way? to tame the high peaks?

      +Daniel Walters yup but you have to be careful. Too much and your drums lose their punch

    instead of putting limiter you could use 1176 type with the highest ratio 20 which means %95 limiting anyway.Limiters can kill every transient of a vocal.I would not use it then maybe vocal rider if you are lazy like me

    • @HomeStudioCorner
      @HomeStudioCorner  6 лет назад +1

      I tend to not really need transients on a vocal.

      My approach was from the technical side not from taste side... ofcourse it depends on the song you want to fit vocals... there are no rights or wrongs in mixing only recording and mastering have some rules for me .)

    i used a limiter on my vocals and whne i went to master my vocals would duck or pump with the kick any idea what i am doing wrong here?

    • @sebastiansantrac
      @sebastiansantrac 2 года назад +1

      If vocals were not pumping in the mix, it’s the master fault. Sounds more like limiting/compression on drum/vocal bus or master bus. Only other way vocals would pump with kick is if drums were sidechained to the vocal’s comp/lim

      @@sebastiansantrac like too fast of a time on limiter? I’ve been trying to clip it and then use a 0 time on limiter

    • @sebastiansantrac
      @sebastiansantrac 2 года назад

      @@Sdbbffsd what i’m saying is that master chanel processing is doing the pumping. Either that or you’re mixing too hot

    • @Sdbbffsd
      @Sdbbffsd 2 года назад +1

      @@sebastiansantrac yeah well maybe I had the kick bypassed on the api2500 so whne I went to limit it was too much dynamics and it pumped

      Joe Gilder • Home Studio Corner hi Joe me again, i know you will receive this notification, any way if you still have this song try this, you are GR at about 6db right, try let the compressor do a GR of 3db with a attack time of about 40 50ms, then add the limiter, this way the limiter will not work to hard at a GR of 3db also.
      cheers!

  • @AdamEzraOfficial
    @AdamEzraOfficial Год назад

    I see you still had the compressor on your chain when using the limiter, was it bipassed or would you use compression with the limiter since it's doing the same job really?
