Lester, creating a "stand pipe" would help drain the water out of the pasture. Dig a ditch about 3 1/2 ft deep from the area to be drained, out to a LOWER level, then fill the ditch with gravel and then soil & grass on the top. It will drain by gravity. We had to do that in our back yard, where there was a lot of clay, and it worked like a dream (farmer's trick in PA). I love to watch Roman and Rita. I love that Rita is high spirited. I wouldn't want to spank it out of her either. She will improve with regular workouts and age. I think that Roman's controlled temperment will help her learn too.
Lester I'm not a farm girl but I know happiness when I see it. Rita is excited because her daddy Lester is here. It's not just because you're bringing food either. Rita loves you so much and she loves spending time with you. ❤︎
Lester just a suggestion. Perhaps putting some loose springs on the gate that will close the gate behind you (not secured shut, but not an open gate to welcome them from walking out) may save you some time. Then when you're done feeding up, you can secure/lock the gates shut.
Great idea!, except it could scratch truck, buggy side x side etc when he's driving thru..., but i think the animals escaping isn't a huge deal, if driveway gate is closed.
All horses roll ,she scratching herself on the hay ,all your cows do it ,especially Tex. They get so excited to see you bringing hay ,not to eat ,but to scratch

Lester the horses love to roll in sand we use to put a pile in the pasture for them to roll in. And you can put more in there stalls after you muck them for awhile. Love you and Jamie and the baby's. Even Tex the big baby.
I think Roman and Rita would love some equine scratching posts especially where they don't have trees to rub up against. I know the pasture has fences but it's lined with bobbed wire. ❤🐴

I had a boss who ran a prison halfway house. He, also, raised his two children almost alone. When they were at the store and the children misbehaved, he would leave all the groceries and take the children home without the things they wanted. His children got the point without any spanking, yelling or public displays of frustration.

Hi to hello, Lester! When you mentioned Roman's eye it reminded me that Belgian draft horses are more at risk for eye problems than other horses. They are prone to cataracts, Ocular Squamus Cell Carcinoma (an eye cancer), and blindness. The earlier an issue is detected, the better the outcome usually. You may want to mention it to Dr. Cochran the next time she checks on him, just to make sure he doesn't have something going on with his eye. It could just be an old scar or it may be something that could be treated early to minimize an issue. I only say this because I have seen alot of blind Belgians go through auctions and rescues. Roman and Rita seem to be doing so well together. I think they are both going to make each other a better horse. Rita is learning respect and calming down a little and I think Rita may be able to teach Roman about trust, she also keeps him moving and provides him with a companion.
Hey Lester... You need to put a stone down over in the water paths and where it stands and keep adding stone by size...small to start and end with a larger round stone so it's smoother to their hooves. That'll help with the standing water... good luck 😁☺️🐎🐎

Yes, I love for who you are! Your “Lesterisms” have grown me over the 4-5 years that I’ve been watching you. You were living in the barndominion I believe when I first started watching after seeing the coming home after Harvey video that had been posted a year or 2 before.
When the vet comes back out, have her check his eye out please. I watch another channel that's in Amarillo, The big hoof foundation, she rescue alot of Belgians, quit a few have came with eye issues. If caught early it's easier to treat. Thanks for letting us love your babies too.
You are doing just fine! Once you get stalls it will be good. I wouldn’t give Rita any grain with molasses in it but a rounded grain for her age. They seem to get more energy, piss & vinegar in them the younger they are 🤣 you are making great strides with them and she will learn! She is young and trying to be top horse. Keep the patience and routine (my horses always do better with a routine) and it will become second nature out there! Love that she has zest and they look so happy! ❤️❤️

‘Crunchies 😂😂😂😂😂 Lester I’ve always thought you should start feeding them away from the gate further out in the pasture along the fence. Especially after the heavy rains til the ground could dry a bit more along the gate area. I know they love the green hay but I think they have caught onto the filling of grains in the coliseum. Maybe for a while hang some feed buckets on the fence or some feed bowls and pour out some along the fence/ driveway with the greens til they realize maybe the Coliseum isn’t the feed up space for a bit. They are still competing with one another cause it’s only been about a week together. They are doing awesome together. You and Jami made the Right choice for both of them I think❤️

Those German Muffin treats are great for giving horses their pills. The muffins are soft so you can smoosh them around the pills. My horse needs a daily pill for his Cushing disease and loves theses treats. Make sure to keep them sealed up so that they soft if you’re using them for meds. ❤

Rick is right as usual.....reading animals is an amazing insight not many are gifted with.Its the ability to leave your personal mindset and enter theirs. Rita is often just excited (like a child)....not so much naughty. When a horse gets down....rolls and gets right up...thats fine....colic keeps them down....unsaddle a horse after a ride and they roll from pleasure.
I remember you doing sheath cleaning at ISS. I think I recall you trying to teach Jami and she had a hard time. No way I could. Thank goodness Courtney can!!!

Lester, I've seen Rita itch like that at LHL on one of the round bails. It was on a reel that Jami filmed. It's probably normal, but ask Jami. I would suggest using the side by side, putting one feeder on one end and another on the opposite to have more separation between those two horses when eating. The horses are too close together and crowding you which can get you hurt. If you're going to float Romans teeth that would be the time to get hooves and sheth done. Is it possible for you to use clay or cement tile to clear that water away? We use it in the Midwest to drain water from fields into grassy areas or drainage ditches.

They are prone to cancer in the eye. If caught early it is treatable.

Rick is right as usual.....reading animals is an amazing insight not many are gifted with.Its the ability to leave your personal mindset and enter theirs.
Rita is often just excited (like a child)....not so much naughty.
When a horse gets down....rolls and gets right up...thats fine....colic keeps them down....unsaddle a horse after a ride and they roll from pleasure.

I love that you reached out to your neighbor with an offer to purchase the 3 horses and get them to Kourtney and Ashley, I hope he takes you up on your offer as they need to get some vet care and human contact. I love the Rita and Roman show ! You have that telescoping flag thing that you should be carrying with you when going in their pasture and break it out and snap that flag at her !
The neighbor probably has to have some many animals on the property to get the agricultural tax break, hence not wanting to get rid of them

Lester, I've seen Rita itch like that at LHL on one of the round bails. It was on a reel that Jami filmed. It's probably normal, but ask Jami.
I would suggest using the side by side, putting one feeder on one end and another on the opposite to have more separation between those two horses when eating. The horses are too close together and crowding you which can get you hurt.
If you're going to float Romans teeth that would be the time to get hooves and sheth done.
Is it possible for you to use clay or cement tile to clear that water away? We use it in the Midwest to drain water from fields into grassy areas or drainage ditches.
