- Back in 1990, Pete and team make their first visit to Gus's Fashions and Shoes (since closed) in downtown St. Louis, a rap and hip hop destination. Jimmy stays close by and lays down the law when necessary.
This clip was featured in the exhibit 'St. Louis Sound' at the St. Louis History Museum.
A play was made about the heyday of Gus's and exhibited in Los Angeles: www.latimes.co...
There is a documentary on Gus available on Amazon: www.amazon.com...
World Wide Magazine is a news reporting "time capsule" of late 20th century life in St. Louis, Missouri, as citizens struggled to find humor in decline, and hope in renewal. It is presented for criticism and commentary, and users are invited to do so at the Facebook page WorldWideMagazine. Thus, it and it's properties are distributed under the auspices of the fair use exemption codified in section 107 of the Copyright Act.
Gus was 53 then standin on the counter like he owned it. Great community businessman. Retired but goin strong at 87 and was interviewed on a St. Louis street corner a few days ago. Thank you for posting this fun interview...
I am a entrepreneur from St. Louis, Gus is the reason why I hustle the way I hustle and treat my customers the way I treat my customers
I moved to STL in 1998 & worked Across the street from Gus's Bought some Chuck Taylers. I heard he got his start in the "family" starting cars for the adults when he was a teenager.
Talk about a cool place! I wonder whatever happened to Jimmy? I agree with Jake Black, World Wide Magazine needs a full blown documentary made.
I heard recently that Jimmy still lives with Gus. A doc has been discussed but isn't in active development yet.
