The car charges so fast and I don't want to pay idle fees. So if I'm hungry, I buy my food and use the bathroom first. Then I drive to the charger and eat it as I charger.
You're the best Chris! Last week, I accepted delivery of my 2022 Model 3 standard, and all your videos helped me learn more about EVs! I also used your code to save on floor mats and phone holder :) Looking forward to receiving them!
I kinda got lost in the quick switches between apps but I think I understand the usefulness of each. I’ve been playing with ABRP and recently with PlugShare to see options for charging in. The old “can I get there and back in a Tesla model x with this temperature and wind. “ game. I finally got my MX yesterday and have a 2500 mile trip in 7 days. Let the good times roll! Thanks for your videos. I’m finding them helpful and saving for future reference.
I screen clip and paste the grid that ABRP produces on my PC. It is very easy to do. It used to include charging cost totals but they eliminated that. But it is still handy after I print it out.
Big words… but Chris this was my favorite vid you have! Most of the details you point out are PERFECT for newbies and goats as well… (I’m somewhat in the middle lol) Maybe… just maybe… you might consider creating an all incorporating itinerary planner that utilizes the super apps of PlugShare and ABRP to integrate with Tessie…?!! I’ll jump in!!!
Hi Chris! Thanks for a great and informative video! Anxiously awaiting delivery of my first EV, a 2023 MYLR. I have Plugshare & ABRP installed on my phone and Macbook. We winter in Tucson and summer in Maine, so within weeks of receiving our new Tesla, we'll be heading out on a 3000+ mile cross country trip. A couple legs on I-40 in OK are "Tesla sparse" so we'll look for a CCS to fill in the gap rather than trying to charge to 100% to make it across. Thanks again for a very helpful video! Subscribed to your channel today. If you come to Tucson again, ping me for a great list of things to do in the area.
How do you get the route and stops calculated on ABRP over to your Tesla navigation system (screen)? do you have to manually enter each stop on the route into the tesla navigation system?
Yes! Save the route on your phone and you can either put it in google maps and sent it to your tesla or enter it manually. Just make sure its to the supercharger and not an address so it preconditions
Can't do that! That's why I have the app on my phone you have to input each supercharge individually which is nice also because you can see other superchargers nearby based on status etc
@@EverydayChris there must be a fundamental Gap in my understanding. I just bought this car so I'm a complete ignoramus. I go into the location menu and choose a destination, then I insert stops between myself and the destination, and then the only thing I can do is press 'done'. There is no save function, there is no way to name it. Is there a separate trip planner app that I should have in my phone from Tesla?
1) how do you actually load the better route plan route into Tesla? Use it via browser? Renter everything yourself as a trip in Tesla maps manually? 2) since you have ccs combo charger any reason not to just rely only on super chargers during the trip? Maybe some of these electrify America ccs chargers are cheaper than Tesla super chargers?
You can’t. You have to input the address in your Google maps and send it to your phone. I love superchargers because it shows how many are available and it’s way faster and easier to use. And more reliable! I did a rivian video about it
Then do you go and manually put each stop into the Tesla navigation? I know you can send a final destination, but can you send a route with multiple stops?
I dont see the point in charging for 6 minutes. I usually charge till 80% while I'm there to give me that buffer and maybe and usually allows me to remove one charging stop from my trip saving me a lot of time getting off and on the highway. Wish they had more chargers sometimes when I goto yosemite and LA from San diego . LA sucks. It's always crowded and people sometimes skip the line.
Agree. For us we will probably be there for a solid 10-15 min cause I gotta show you these bathrooms. So by then, when we arrive at the next one, we can charge less. It's all fluid.
I’d like to see the printout of your trip plans. I’m going to make a template with details. I’m a @tripit subscriber and I’m going to see if that’s a tool I can use to compile trip details. Thanks for the very helpful video.
I screen clip and paste the grid that ABRP produces on my PC. It is very easy to do. It used to include charging cost totals but they eliminated that. But it is still handy after I print it out.
Quartzite’s 250 kW Superchargers have a Carl’s Jr. next to it and Ehrenberg has too much traffic. Not good for dogs! Tucson has three Superchargers with West River Road showing 16 250 kW in a shopping center.
@@EverydayChris My wife and I will road tripping from Palm Springs to Tucson in late October, staying at El Conquistador. We also did a 2800 mile Oregon trip in our new Model Y!
I want to go camping with my model 3. Could you suggest how to be safe inside the car overnight ? Do car opens from outside if I lock it through app while in the car?
I live down in south Orange County and am curious what TOU plan you use for the best prices to charge your car at home. I am looking at it and it looks like the TOU-EV5 is the best way to go. What do you do?
@@EverydayChris I see, my utility is SDGE and it seems like PRIME and EV5 are pretty similar. Just different providers. I am shocked at how many people I know with EVs that don’t switch their billing and are sometimes paying more to charge their cars than it would be to fill up a car with gas lol! It’s so important to switch your billing and charge on off peak times to maximize savings. Crazy that some people don’t know to do that! Maybe you could do a video for Southern California peeps explaining different utility rates for people with EVs in 2023?
Hi Chris, So I planned a trip with ABRP, and then entered the stops into my Model Y's Nav. I got the spinning circle for "calculating" and it never comes out of it. I've tried numerous times. I can send you the ABRP waypoints if you like. There are only 3 Superchargers, and a final destination. Thanks, Jim
Could you explain further why you never want to go down to a 10% charge on road trips? It seems to me that you'd still have enough charge at 10% to get to your destination.
10% isn't the worst. It's just that if something goes wrong you don't want to be stranded. We go to 10% now but if you're new I say keep it above 10% until you get the hang of it.
Hello Chris, what your full name and address? I used your referral link to buy solar panels and now tesla is asking me to share referrer full name and address

Very helpful and well planned. I wish there was an easier way to go about it, but for now I guess this is it
Perfect video. We are heading to Sedona Az, this video helps a lot.
heading to flagstaff tomorrow any advise?
Love the light….. very cool

Really helpful. I'm taking a 2,000+ mile trip soon in my MYP, and this gave me some crazy good tips. Thanks!!

Thanks for the tips!
Did i miss it? How do you transfer your route plan from ABRP to your Tesla?
Can't do that! That's why I have the app on my phone you have to input each supercharge individually which is nice also because you can see other superchargers nearby based on status etc
Should i use ABRP charging destiantion as the first destination in tesla nav?
Yeah whichever one you want to go to put it in the tesla nav
Once you've planned the route, how do you save it and import it into the car to run it?
You save it on your phone and manually enter each destination that you like to the navigation.

Hi Chris, Do you recommend letting the charge go as low as 10% on arrival at a supercharger or do you set it higher? Thanks, Jim
Yes lower is better!
Why does ABRP suggest a 6-minute charge? I'm planning a trip now, and it's suggesting 5-minute charge, which doesn't seem to do much.
Alot of times shorter faster charging is better but yeah 5 minute is too little. I usually just charge longer

Chris, when you use the A Better Route Planner tool, do you let the app connect to your Tesla account to get real time data? Thanks!

Sup man! I only have one Tesla. As far as credit cards you can link them to different accounts. Key cards can be up to 6 different cars I think
