Personally, I find Princess and HALs drink packages to be the best. They include gratuities, a wifi package, casual and specialty dining options, and drinks. They may have a $15 limit on their lower packages, but their drinks are also priced much lower than on RCI or Carnival
I went on a 7 night Carnival cruise to the Caribbean in 2017 with a woman i was seeing and we didn't get the drinks package. We just bought a few drinks here and there when we felt like drinking. We sailed on Carnival Glory and it was an awesome cruise. We had such a good time.
@@anthony273 On Carnival and Princess, you only get 15. On most cruise lines, if you have the drink package, your glass never gets empty. You have no idea how many you had.
You really don't have to drink 6 or 7 alcoholic drinks per day in order to break even. Don't forget the mocktails, specialty coffees, smoothies, bottled waters that are also included in the package and would add up if purchased individually. You can get your money's worth by drinking plenty of the other items.
I just sailed Carnival Venezia. I did not get a drink package-I rarely get it since I find it is not worth the cost. ( I like the premium beverages) I drink 5-6 cocktails a day and have sailed many cruises. On the Venezia, many guests had the drink package and boasted that they shared their package with friends who did not stay in the same cabin and did not have the drink package.. The bartenders would make both drinks under one card. One bartender was fully aware the second drink was for a non-drink package guest.
You're correct, people share the package all the time. But if you do, don't be loud and stupid about it! Just get the drinks and leave, don't make a spectacle of yourself. I'm not going to lie, I've done it! I've gotten 2 drinks and just went and sat down and put it on the table and the other person took it. Bar tenders 100% know people do it and some people say that "oh, they watch you!", LOL! No they don't! They don't care because the tip is built into every drink in a drink package. Their job is to kick out as many drinks as possible to accumulate more tips not to play drink police.
I did a 2 week Canary Islands cruise about 6 years ago, and there was a family who did not get a drinks package. The bill they received at the end of the cruise was four figures!
We have cruised about 55+ times, and we have never purchased a drink package. Because we seldom drink more than two or three alcoholic drinks in the course of a week, and no soft drinks, a drink package would not work for us. This is not to say that it may not be worthwhile for our fellow cruisers.
The "drink xxx amount of drinks to break even" thing is not a good way to have a drink package. I'm not trying to race the clock and drink xx drinks per day, a drink package enhances your overall vacation on the ship. You're not going to worry about how much a drink costs or if you get it and don't like it. With the package, you absolutely will drink more than if you didn't have one. Nothing worse than not having a package and being greeted on your stateroom TV with a daily tally of how much you've spent on drinks, and it's only day 3 of a 7-day cruise, and you realize you've spent 3/4 of the amount of what a drink package would have costed you for the entire cruise! So, get the drink package and enjoy your cruise!
The great thing about Carnival Drink package is that the non alcoholic drinks don’t count towards your fifteen drink limit, so you can get multiple waters, lattes, sports drinks and sodas and even milkshakes as part of your package, and I’m always trying out different drinks to see what I’m missing, I do however like to tip the bartenders extra, because if you do that regularly, when you come back they will remember you and I have had them automatically bring out some higher class liquor and make them stronger than normal for me. Or had them make my drinks first before others at the bar, If you do some research in advance of the it covers, and you don’t just order the “pedestrian” level of drinks, you can really take advantage of the drink package.
It can be fun to tell the bartender to make you his favorite drink or something with a specific liquor. Next cruise, I'll be trying grappa in the Italian restaurant and maybe a glass of port if they have one.
What is the best rum to ask for in specialty drinks? I know about vodka and whiskey, but I don't typically drink rum. I do know they are in the drinks I will be having on my cruise.
My husband and I don’t cruise for our vacations. That said I follow/subscribe to several cruise channels. The more I see the more I think twice about ever actually booking a cruise. So many small details.
You do not really have to know many details; just do what works for you. Also, there are dozens of different types of cruises. Our last one was on a 45 passenger river boat; no casino, only one beer and two wines to choose from-assuming you are a drinker. I feel that if you have never cruised you have missed out on much of what life has to offer. Cruise lines all try to make your time onboard enjoyable; and they do a good job of it.
I can see it now my body and hands are shaking. The bartender says, sir are you alright? I'm a bit stressed out as i need to drink more to even out my drinking package.
I was on a carnival cruise a year ago and an NCL cruise this year and I got the non-alcoholic drink package for the carnival cruise and was unable to get bottled water or coffee which I thought was absurd because those are the only two things that I drink. NCL I couldn’t get either with the upgraded drink package even though I don’t drink alcohol, so some cruise lines do not allow bottled water or cartons of water I should say on their drink packages.
You steer viewers to Royal Caribbean instead of Carnival based on the fact that you can use the drink package on the private island with Royal, but not with Carnival. BUT, Royal's pricing is typically 20-40% HIGHER for the package than Carnival's price. SO, it doesn't seem like you are saving anything at all. In fact, I'm sure you STILL end up paying more in the end with Royal.
People look at the drink package all wrong, paying for a drink package turns your cruise into an all exclusive cruise, on royal it includes special coffees, except Starbucks waters ,soda ect...
Packages with a fixed no eg 15 of drinks dont allow you to pay extra above this for alcohol drinks. This limit also includes no alcohol drinks indirectly so 10 sodas limits you to 5 beers. You can they only get soda water etc.. Hal has a loophole. Choose the premium package and the only counted drinks are 15 alcohol and also soda coffee water etc unlimited
My wife and I seldom drink, so we have never purchased a drink package. Tea, coffee, and (juices at breakfast are free) as well as is water at all meals. Also, you can go for free water, coffee, and tea at almost any time at the buffet restaurant.
On celebrity (and others i am sure) bar crew get a bonus for detecting drink fraud. I saw a guy at desk arguing unsuccessful. They cancelled the drink package for his cabin as he shared with adult kids in another. No refund they said...or they could choose to depart.
@@arfriedman4577 Filtered water, coffee, tea and flavored water beverages (from self-serve machines on NCL) are included in your cruise fare. No beverage package needed!

The biggest mistake you can make is dinking too much one day and then being miserable and not want to drink the following day.
Just need to not drink stuff with lots of sugars / syrups in them.. :D
Did that on my first cruise. My perfect day at coco cay was spent in my cabin severely hungover.
They only give 15. Takes me 25-30 to get wobbly drunk

Do you mean "specialty" coffee, like Starbucks??
also that starbucks isnt included, at least on RC
Found that out the hard way
Starbucks was included on the Wonder of the Seas, fresh fruit orange juice, smoothies and all drinks and wine 😂with the premium package.

wrong....sodas don't count as drinks. Fake news
If your talking about Carnival (the only one with a limit) you are incorrect the 15 is only alcohol
"Kay" or "Key"?
What about a person like me and my fiance we don't drink alcohol😢😮
Mocktails
