    I love making pasta. Not only is it more delicious, but it is incredibly cheap to make, especially if you like flavored pasta. Last summer I made batches of linguini flavored with my homegrown spinach. I froze little nests of it on a baking sheet and then bagged it to eat all fall.

    I love that you show recipes from the stuff you grow! You should put links to things like the pasta maker or your mixer on Amazon so you can get a little extra money that way too. My son wants me to get him a pasta maker like that. This fall he plans to start growing wheat just so he can have home made pasta. He loves it that much! LOL!

    i love the idea of squash on spaghetti. My mom used to use brocolli, bell peppers, mushrooms and onions to top the spaghetti and I find that I love the veggies way more than the traditional way youd get it at restaurants.

    Beautiful! I'm very impressed with the effort that went into that fresh pasta. I recently baked a loaf of French bread from scratch, and it is remarkable how much better the flavor is over store bought. Maybe I will have to give fresh pasta a try. Will be fun to see how the new tomato variety grows this season - keep us updated :)

      yes. doing complicated recipes from scratch at times is fun. (at least i think so :-) I plan to track how this tomato variety develops. Hopefully It becomes a more localized disease resistant variety.

    One of my favorite things to do when growing, coming up with new strains by cross pollinating. I have a strain of tomato I've been working on for about 8 years now. Hardy little bugger. Been working on a strain of okra too that I've had a bit of success with.

    Hi Siloe, the hybrid variety that you have created needs a name! Also, I wonder if you're aware that saving seed from those fruit won't continue the line - the dna in the seeds will have reverted back to either your galapogos or black krim/brandywine.

    • @suburbanhomestead
      @suburbanhomestead  6 лет назад

      It does need a name. I'm hoping the the genetics settle down with coming generations. In the second generation there is a lot of diversity usually, but I hope that stabilizing it will be possible. (Although it will be hard to keep things the same.)

  • @user-rx2ur5el9p
    @user-rx2ur5el9p 5 лет назад

    Are you aware that you can very easily manually cross two different tomatoes?
    Also, you should try your best to stabilize this new variety. If you do so succesafully, you can copyright your heirloom, sell it, and/or donate it to seed bank or a store that's dedicated to collecting and selling rare varieties, such as Baker Creek.

      i already have a rare local breed (perfectly acclimated). plus some "wild cherry tomatoes" and a "cherry tomato mix" raised from aliexpress seeds :-D do i just let them sit next to each other in order for them to cross pollinate or do they need my help? :-D

    • @suburbanhomestead
      @suburbanhomestead  6 лет назад +1

      If you want to be more precise you have to hand pollinate that. I have not tried to do that yet. Tomatoes will usually self pollinate unless pollinated by hand or by an insect.
