To me, this is how you farm. I grew up on a farm in central Indiana and once the corn and beans were in, you plowed. My uncle used to call it "blacking the ground" because our soil was black, just like this field. I know all the "no till" warriors will crucify me, but I don't care. You got to turn that top foot upside down. That not only pulls the rocks up, but gets air into the soil, water, pushes that chaff and stalks under to break down, etc. Then manure all winter and spring with some light cultivation to mix in fertilizer and smooth it all out for planting. Sometimes you can skip plowing if you're going from corn to wheat or alfalfa.
I love that rich ,black soil. I am one of the many who loves watching moldboard ploughing videos. It is so cool, almost as cool as that Mike Less guy on RUclips. LOL. Thanks for showing.
Interesting plowing, appears to be plowing across the corn rows, going the short way. Field has been worked, to chop up stalks, to flow through the plow better. Looks like some tough plowing, tractor could use a little more weight. We had a 976, great tractors, just not enough weight for the power of that cummins. It liked to power hop.
Nice. I like it with a nice cut furrow. It's what we did on seed corn ground. I didn't get to use a cab tractor. Lot's of clothes and good food. Many times on Thanksgiving giving week. Thanks
This is and awesome video Mike don't get to see much molboard plowing anymore I think crops do better when turn the soil over but I know there will be people who will disagree with me and that's okay I just thank GOD for farmers and all the hard work they do day in and day out and the many hours they put in for feeding the world .thank you Mike for another great video and thank you farmers for feeding the world.
Thanks Mike for finding a plowing video I used to plow many acres . We had a International 4100 with a 7 bottom pull type plow , 1256 with a 7-16 & an 806 with 6- 14 plows . Mostly custom work back then . Thanks again for your great support channel and always interesting videos .
versatile has always, in my laymans opinion, the best looking stuff. that red/yellow/black scheme just pops. Almost as handsome as that Mike Less guy on youtube.....
I was thinking of you the other day when I overtook 15 John Deer combine harvesters , heading south on the road between Emerald and Springsure Queensland Australia . Woulda made a nice video
Wouldn't want any bigger plow for that field. Looks to be heavy tough ground, a couple weeks of dry weather would make it easier plowing. Should work down nice in the spring.
I think that it's awful waste of power on a 7 furrow plough? Should atleast have a 10/12 furrow behind that lady?. We pull a 5 furrow reverseable plough behind a 160 hp case no bother.
laughing hadda come drool, I been waching way to may green things and them F ones I cannot pronounce the name corectly of. No Not FORD, you know the F ones sorta like the W sauce no one can pronounce right. and though I do not mind Case IH them with tracks to me are not a tractor, so when i see the big ol sweet 936 i hadda pop in. Do you ever come across and farmers pulling Kellobilt Discs? I worked for kello brothers for 11 years. Vic and Huegh were great people to work for. they do make serious discs that get the job done right. their Dad Fred Kellough was a great man. He was who started it.
Do you do much moldboard plowing there? We don’t do it as much as we used to here in Ohio. But weed resistance has brought them back out. I told everyone years ago that constant herbicide use wasn’t the answer.
@@thevox1075 In my younger days I used a Kevernland reversible mouldboard to plough heavy black soil in preparation to plant sugar cane. My sugar cane farming days are over now, however to answer your question, no there isn’t much mouldboarding being done here anymore. Mostly people use offset discs or minimum till. My opinion is you can’t beat giving the soil a good turn over with a plough, but that’s just the opinion of an old fella that’s out of date I suppose. Regards from Down Under.
@@outbackladas well, your American cousin here must be out of touch as well. I’ve watched weeds become resistant to herbicide, and watched compaction increase without tillage. We just do what’s best for our farm.
@@thevox1075 The plough has certainly been around longer than herbicides, it will be interesting to see which one wins the battle of the weeds in the long run. My own thoughts are a combination of the two is probably the way forward for now, and most likely the plough will be the victor in the end. Regards from Down Under.
As always Mike, another good video from you. Thats nice black easy soil to turn over. In my estimation, that tractor if properly well hung with weights, should be able to pull twice that number, (14) of bottoms in those conditions. Mike, what do you or others think as my thinking may be a tad exaggerated-?
Mike, Very nice video, love to see the vintage Versatile (actually, any Versatile !) Question about the plow: the front section is lowered into the ground before the rear section making the end of the rows more even. How is this achieved ? Do they use 2 remotes or is there a delay or some other method built into the plow ? PS: love to see that fertile midwest black soil.
Curious why the farmer was plowing the perpendicular direction of that field? Especially since at the end they have to drive the distance across to head the other way. Unless partial plowing of that field it seems like a less cost efficient way to farm. Still makes great content non the less.
Last time I pulled a plow was in 75 when uncle leased 2500 acres of sod ground Family had 12 tractor there plowed it all in 2 weeks biggest plow there was 5 -14 inch bottom
There’s nothing strange about them lol. It’s an auto reset plow with spring reset bottoms for when you hit either A. a rock, B: a foreign object, or C. The ground is too hard. You Europeans and your rollover plows🙄
Hello! Honest oldie doing a fine job...
Those older Versatile tractors are so cool looking and sounding. Awesome Mike 👌🏻.
Love to see the older Versatile tractors. Plowing is something we dont see much of anymore. Glad to see Farmers still doing it.

That ole boy is investing a lot of work in that field. 💪💪
Yes indeed - ploughing has got to be the most expensive operation, when establishing a seed bed.
Awesome video thank you that versatile is a beauty
I just love plowing-videos!
It show's the tractor in all it's power.
That's the work it usually was build for. 😃
Thanks a lot for the video! 😊👍🏻

Definitely a another great video from you Mike Less!! Really appreciate watching them!! Especially this one doing some plowing kind of old school!!
Great awesome video mike, love plowing the most
Been a long time since I've seen someone plow again. Great video.
What a beast! And beautiful ground thanks for the videos sir!
We did some plowing last fall with an 875 and a White 10 bottom.
Seems like the resets are tripping too easily? Nice video
I had a 936 years ago, loved it
Absolutely no words BMH!
Even the scenery is great I like it
What a plowing beast.
That is some nice dirt there .
Looks like the same black soil that we have here in Iowa. Pretty tough stuff. I still believe in turning the soil over.
Love any ploughing video. Great footage once again Mike
Like watching it, but don’t miss doing it!!!!!

Tail wheel usually runs in the furrow. Looks to be slightly dragging sideways, I wonder if it's still in transport mode.
He was just getting started and had been making adjustments to get it fine tuned.
I love farming channels tractor and combine and etc

Oh man🤩 look this black soil. There is only challange in spring. Don't forget to plant😅
Hey from farmer to farmer .sweden
Make plowing great again!
More ways than one hahaaaa.
Good video.
More of these please
Good video
Neat to see but I do NOT miss working moldboard plowed ground in the spring. Rougher ‘n a cob as my grandpa would say. 😂

The plow is slabbing up the soil does the farm do any more work to this field in the fall ?
Always fun to watch a good plowing video. Especially with good old horsepower pulling it. How's the new Massey working out?
How come reversible ploughs haven’t caught you guys up yet

There is a farm close by that pulls a Salford 14 bottom with a Versatile 550 Delta Track. Not sure that this tractor would pull 14
looks like hes plowing that field crosswise must need to level it back up maybe
Mike,
Very nice video, love to see the vintage Versatile (actually, any Versatile !)

I wasn't in the tractor but yes generally two separate hydraulic remotes.
Thanks Mike, keep up the good work !!!
some plows also have a built in restrictor that lower the front first when you sock it down to help get a square head land
Not too far from me, I could be there in an hour.
Curious why the farmer was plowing the perpendicular direction of that field? Especially since at the end they have to drive the distance across to head the other way. Unless partial plowing of that field it seems like a less cost efficient way to farm. Still makes great content non the less.
They are changing the row direction in this field next spring
Why are bed plows so popular in the USA?
Wgat are the advantages compared to reversible ploughs?
Rollover plows just were never that popular in the USA. I have seen them before here just not much.
👍
Last time I pulled a plow was in 75 when uncle leased 2500 acres of sod ground Family had 12 tractor there plowed it all in 2 weeks biggest plow there was 5 -14 inch bottom
What size bottoms?
Why is plowing then is not cultivating?
I like Mike less videos on RUclips from the imperial co California 🚜🚜
Where is the video of a johndeere model 50 plowing at
That type of plow goes round and round not back and forth. Oh well.
Всего 7 корпусов, наш Кирюха 8 тоскает, может и больше
This is not a quick job, going to take a moment, just like plowing 100 acres with a super A Farmall and single 16 bottom plow .I know
Or a 8N with 2 14" mouldboard plows.
😎😎
What is the need of plowing vs stiptill to avoid erotion?
Plowing works good in this area for the non GMO crops
Der Unkrautdruck wird minimiert und die Frostgare kann in den Boden.
Do any manufacturers make roll over plows here in the US-?
I’m not sure about now. I know that Deere has in the past, as well as Oliver, and I think IH may have at one point.
Kuhn makes the challenger roll over
Reason for plowing crossways on the field? Ron
Better residue flow throughout the plow, less plugging
They will be changing the direction of the rows in this field starting next spring.
The whole point of ploughing is to bury all the rubbish for a clean fresh start I have seen better dragging
strange plough with the springs

Width of cut per bottom? Otherwise enjoyed the video!

n to watch this style of plowing but boy is it bad for the soil health.
No till it works it works 😅
Pflug ist immernoch das Beste.
Until herbicide resistance rears it’s ugly head. Have seen PLENTY of that.
@@thevox1075 that because farmers don't use small grain in rotation, race for profit.
