Agree so much about She is a Haunting - so many good elements and then it’s like the author couldn’t quite get the very end to work right. Awww hey again Chewy 💖
I’m so glad that you brought up crediting artists whose artwork you use! I’ve been wondering about that. I use a lot of fanart in my book spreads and I always try to get the artist’s permission to have their art visible if I post the spreads on Instagram or on my RUclips channel. This may be quite a lot of work and has included making accounts on various social media I normally don’t use, but it is also an amazing way to connect with the artists who love the same books, and sometimes the authors if they hold the right to the image! They appreciate it sooo much and I’ve had some fun chats. Sometimes they have even sent me pictures previously not posted by them! No one has ever said no and only rarely have I not been able to reach the artist. Then I usually mention them in the voiceover and tag them in the description.
Your videos are always so aesthetically pleasing with a cozy vibe. You can tell the time and effort you put into them and it’s so very appreciated! Happy to have found you here on BookTube!
Great video! I really enjoy listening to you talk about books - love your thoughtful reviews. And watching you work in your reading journal is kind of mesmerizing. LOL I'm so sorry about the loss of your uncle. May his memory always be a blessing.
More please! I would love to hear your take on Daughter of the Forest-not sure if it’s true romantasy, but it was a book that sparked my love of romance in fantasy settings. 😂🙄😊🤗
First of all, I’m sorry for your loss. Second, an excellent bookish video as always, Elizabeth. ❤❤❤ I could listen to you talking about books for hours😊
I really like this type of video. I love books and I like looking at pretty reading journals (but I don't make my own) and I especially love seeing how the journal setups are used!
I have a book recommendation for you: It's called Orpheus Builds a Girl by Heather Parry. It's a literary historical gothic psychological thriller sci-fi retelling of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice meets Frankenstein (and i guess there's some Hades and Persephone, but not the romanticized version). I thought it was incredible and i think that this could be a you-book
Love the spreads! I hope to read A Day of Fallen Night this summer. When will you be uploading your reading journal flipthrough of 2023? I rewatch those videos for comfort, as your voice is really soothing, your opinions eloquent and your spreads just very aesthetic 😊
Thank you! I didn’t have time to finish my reading journal spreads at the end of last year so I need to try to find time to slowly get those finished in between current projects before I can share it ❤️
Got some gentle exercise on my rebounder and mixed up some flatbread dough as I listened. Sorry I missed the visuals, but still really enjoyed this talk. Glad you had so many satisfying reads to enjoy!
Thanks for all the book suggestions. Just a quick note that it is Jesmyn Ward. I put the book on my ever growing list. And too bad about the sequels to Wool being bland, I'll probably just read the first one.
Hey there! I'm still watching, but I just wanted to pause before I forget and recommend Liliana Bodoc's Saga de los Confines. I don't know what the translation is like, but they are three amazing, moving, heart-wrenching, stunning books with really gorgeous prose. If I'm not mistaken the english titles are The Days of the Deer, The Days of Shadows and The Days of Fire. It's a very poetic, painful take on precolombine america and the very beginning of colonization from the perspective of the native peoples, in the form of an epic with lots of fantasy elements. The native peoples in this series are not at all a 1-to-1 of the nations that existed and still exist today, I should clarify. It is fiction, and fantasy. Liliana Bodoc is from Mendoza, Argentina. I feel particularly close to these books considering I am from the "Confines", but for a lot of other reasons too I just think you'd really enjoy it, from what I've seen of your wrap ups. I do hope the translation does the prose justice, insofar as that is possible. On a very different note, have you read The Expanse? I'm currently reading book three and loving it (especially book one)
For anyone who's interested in reading a Chinese classic, Family by Ba Jin is a great book imo. It's set in early 1920s Chengdu and follows the generational conflicts in a wealthy family. Ba Jin's portrayal of women is actually not bad considering the time period. The second book in the series is actually more focused on how society treats women, with a focus on arranged marriages. I can't vouch for the English translation since I read it in Chinese, but either way it's an interesting look at the ideological conflicts that were arising in early 20th century China. It's also apparently semi-autobiographical!
I felt exactly the same way about Wool, Shift and Dust. I'm interested in how your annotation process feeds into writing your reviews - wouldn't it mean you have to go through the whole book again afterwards to collect your thoughts/notes, or do you also write notes outside the book as you go? If the latter, what purpose do the annotations serve, other than highlighting quotes to collect? Thanks!
I find the process of annotating as I read makes my thoughts on a book stick better in my brain, so I usually don’t have to go back in refer to them to write my review! But if I do you want to look up something it’s easy to find ☺️
Tracking my stats monthly helps me too.i realize im not being as mindful as i want to be. I adored the descriptirs in She is a Haunting. I almost feel it would have been better as general not YA cause i wonder how much was edited out.

It’s too bad because the book was so well done otherwise! Still definitely worth the read in my book. Chewy wanted to get involved as per usual 😂❤️
Parable of the Talents was life-changing. I wish she could have written even more.
I know what you mean ❤️ I don’t want to read through her oeuvre too quickly and be left with no new Butler 😔
Watching these videos always inspires me to do better about journaling! Maybe I will tackle that goal by the end of 2024 😅
Haha it’s hard to stay consistent when life gets busy, I get it!

Thank you so much!
I love your videos
Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
I think its time to read a collection of Alice Munro short stories. ;)
I felt exactly the same way about Wool, Shift and Dust.

Elizabeth, my condolences for losing your Uncle. To have a book list that helped you in a small way through your pain. 😔😪😔😪😔💚💚💚
Thank you ❤️ I appreciate the kind words

I love the Archer & Olive notebooks that you use. How do you manage to buy them? I tried several times, and they always seem to be out of stock.
I try to share launches when they happen over on my Instagram if that helps!
@PlantBasedBride too easy! Thanks!
If you read “Machine Learning” by Hugh Howey you will find out what happens to the characters after the trilogy. It has other short stories too.
Oh interesting, I didn’t know there was more! I’ll have to check it out. Thank you for letting me know 🥰
❤❤❤
