This video evoked a strong emotional response in me. Witnessing impoverished Nigerians fervently pledging loyalty to corrupt leaders is disheartening. Before the 2023 election, I encountered a woman juggling roles as a private security guard and a street vendor, passionately endorsing the APC presidential candidate. She spoke of his diligence, empathy, and promises to uplift the masses while eradicating corruption. This moment shattered my hope for Nigeria's future. Poverty and ignorance seem to be the powerful tools wielded by Nigerian politicians to maintain their grip on power, making any expectation of them alleviating poverty appear delusional.
The deteriorating state of the country leaves me at a loss for words. It's not anger, sadness, or even optimism that I feel; it's a complex mix of emotions difficult to express.

      I'd like to add something.
Years ago, I saw a documentary chronicling Nigerian history from Amalgamation to the mid 2000s. I noticed a cycle: so many have either claimed or been claimed to be the messiah. And guess what, they ALL turned out to be anything but that. After seeing that documentary, I felt like walking out of the country literally with my feet because it seemed obvious that hope was just a nice word for foolishness. One that consists of believing that change is possible BEFORE certain other things change first.
I saw a video here on RUclips where the Nigerian migrant was complaining that people in the particular western country she migrated to take life "too seriously" and I wonder if it didn't occur to her that the better standard of living that attracted her there to begin with were due to this same attitude of theirs she was complaining about. I have long held that the differences in prosperity from country to country are primarily due to differences in mentality.
There's a certain quote from a certain book that says "God will not change the condition of a people until they change what is with themselves".
All the above have cemented my belief that the cream always rises to the top. If Nigerians want the right cream to rise to the rop it's up to them, but until then, they'll keep getting the sort of leaders whose characteristics encapsulate those found in the typical Nigerian. At the end of the day, leaders don't fall from the sky.

The "Nigerian" democracy is not hanging by a thread as you have stated. Any Nigerian youth who had never participated in the election process before 2019 has no idea what their talking about. The elections in Nigeria have always been this way ( ballot snatching , voter suppression, intimidation and even assassination. The only difference now is that everyone now has a smartphone and social media access! Could the process be better ? Yes. I would even say this last election results was the closest to the real actual life numbers we have ever had, because dead people did not vote in the last election.

    Nigeria was created by Britain
The indigenous tribes never agreed to belong to the entity called Nigeria but were forced.
Thats the source of Nigeria's problem, there are so many countries trapped inside Nigeria, only division would solve the poverty in Nigeria
Size of a nation doesn't necessarily equates to Power.
Look at Israel, a tiny country yet so advanced
Now Imagine if Israel, Palestine, Egypt, were merged into one country...

    • @chuksajeh1813
      @chuksajeh1813 10 месяцев назад +1

I hear your point, but I respectfully I disagree.
Firstly, It is true we were lumped together. But nation states are how countries in today's society globally thrive. If you look at many nations you will find they have tribes and people groups too. Indians, arabs, east asians, etc. Reverting to tribal states, will not solve nigerias economic problems. And opens said nations to influence/exploitation of larger cohesive nations states. Far easier to dominate a tribe and pillage resources than a country.
Secondly, we knowingly elect poor leaders or leaders with no vision. Anyone with two eyes can see Tinubu is a crook. Even if you dont believe the allegations, compare him to any statesman worldwide, he falls short in almost every metric. Yet a sizeable population voted for him because hes their tribesman, a sizeable population did not ask the correct questions of themselves when deciding is this a leader i should vote for and as seen in the video he's able to get away with simply not answering questions or attending debates, which is expected of ANY potential head of state worldwide.
In the UK for example the tories have been in power for 13 years. People are angry with how they have ruled. At the next election they face political annihilation. Why? Because they do not serve the BRITISH public.
Nigerians do not have that same sense of nationalism domestically. You could argue Britain is an unfair example, what about indians? Or other cultural melting pots able to get things done? Sure globally we say 'naija to the world' yet there is still (understandable to a degree ) distrust amongst tribes. The problem is when faced with an election, unlike other nations we don't consider how this candidate will help NIGERIANS. On the other end we have leaders and a political class that makes sure not to encourage such nationalism. That's why we have arguments like yours that suggest the solution is to break up, it is not (in my opinion).
A great example are Arabs. They have tribes too, just like africans. The difference is that they share a common goal, identity, nation. To an outsider they will tell you I'm Emirati for example. And sure the leaders enrich themselves, let's not pretend otherwise. But unlike them, what have our leaders accomplished? what have they built, key point, that has lasted? Or benefits the citizens? You see this across Africa large infrastructure vanity projects that do nothing. Nigeria in 2023 still does not have a stable energy grid. We still use generators!
The solution is a political revamp and a mindset shift from the citizens of Nigeria. We should be asking more of the qualifications of potentials looking to lead Nigeria. We should call for leaders that do not respect the democractic process to be removed or as is done in other western nations, punish governments politically by tactically voting to strip them of power. Example, US states that were republican strongholds have fallen to Democrats. UK Tory MPs are losing seats in by elections due to tactical voting. Nigerians are fed up. GOOD. now look to choose a leader that helps everyone, has good policies and has a vision, not because hes your fellow tribesman or because you're loyal to a party.
Last rebuttal on your final point. Apples to oranges. Your point was about lumping tribes together, this point references entire nation states. Its more akin to EU which despite its problems are very functional. Egypt was never a tribe, it has almost always been a nation with its own groups of peoples (hope you see the reference), so you wouldn't lump it with another nation state. Israel Palestine is also a bad example given that is a conflict derived from a colonial settler issue. Nigeria and other African nations besides South Africa did/do not suffer from this issue.
God bless and look forward to any rebuttal you or anyone may have.

@@chuksajeh1813 Excellent analysis! I have a minor quibble even though I'm not entirely sure of a solution to it. The quibble is that those with the legal authority to make the necessary changes for the better are the same people who benefit the most from the status quo. We can't appeal for changes to be made to strengthen institutions because it won't happen. Maybe until there's a nationwide generational shift in mentally, then such institutional changes can organically occur. It seems to be a chicken and egg problem.

    • @chuksajeh1813
      @chuksajeh1813 10 месяцев назад +1

@@abdul-kabiralegbe5660 Thank you friend. Your quibble is well placed. I will say however, that I do not believe this is a chicken and egg situation. My response is that there should not be an appeal for change, but rather citizens should set out to punish parties and governors that do not vote in our interests. However this relies heavily on that mental shift that will likely come from younger voters. This will force them to at least rethink how they conduct themselves when putting out manifiestos and candidates.
I will use the UK once more as an example (I am based in the UK so that is my domain of knowledge): As I said in my previous comment, the tories face political annihilation. Unlike Nigeria we have yet to hold our next government election (General Election). However, the party is sharply changing course trying to salvage any hopes for re-election primarily due to by-election defeats. the closest equivalent to nigeria would be governors. UK citizens have punished the tories for not working in their interests by systematically voting for other parties, not necessarily the opposite (e.g labour), this could be the greens or Lib dems.
Nigerians must do the same. Pardon my ignorance but younger nigerians seem more cohesive and wanting for change for Nigeria, so they should look to punish governors and their parties by tactically voting, rendering them out of office.
Criticism: I recognise this to be fanciful and naive and an response ignorant of the political system of nigeria. Many nigerians may be uniformed or may not care, and focus on tribe or name or the idea of what benefits them. Furthermore, there's nothing to say the new party government will a) be any better b) won't be as corrupt and incompetent as the previous and existing governments.
But to effect change without revolution/bloodshed change must be done within the confines of the system and changing it within the system, which seems doable given this is something that has occurred in many nations worldwide irrespective of polictal systems for said country.
As before, God bless and look forward to any rebuttal you or anyone may have.

@@chuksajeh1813 Thanks again for your great response. The situation I referred to was the possibility of strengthening and restructuring the electoral organisation (INEC) such that it is less susceptible to external influence. Great analysis on these critical issues, including the play out of the Nigerian 2023 election.
Keep up the great work Jude 👏🏿 & remain safe out there as well!
Like we always say, until Nigerians 🇳🇬 decide to hold their leaders accountable & not be used as tools for tribalism/religiosity/nepotism…. The suffering will not end and no prayers will solve this manmade problem, that’s just common sense.

Honestly, if I were to pick a president who best ENCAPSULATES the characteristics of the typical Nigerian, I'd choose the current one. If Nigerians want to see a different type of leader, they themselves need to be different to begin with. At the end of the day, leaders don't fall from the sky, they come from amongst us.

Hey jude, nice work bro, i always like your videos and i pray it keeps educating the new genzs growing up to be better...there is one importance fact ill like you to look into that is the major reason for our crippled economy and poverty....the 100 mil to each local government monthly in Nigeria, which as been snatched by the governors forum about 13yrs ago...im from ogun state and i remember then governor gbenga daniel still give each local government 5mil monthly to execute projects, as lil as that is, thise local government chaimans still use it to get projects out to ppl in their zones by which it reach the masses, ppl get projects and the markets grows. But since amosun regime, all local government funds are taken by the governors, infact they see it as thier salaries right now. Ogun state as 20 lg which means 2bil montlhy for the governor, imgaine if each local government could really get that 100mil monthly how well it will follow down to the masses cus there won't be a stupid governor that won't want to monitor a chairman in charge of such amount....i cant say much but i tell you...forget the president...or any other stuff...
If we really want just a lil...let the senators approve the bill for local governments to get their funds directly...that would be a start of change....

great insight, the thing Is business is very difficult to do in this terrain called Nigeria, many Nigerians that's are smart and understand the system wonders why stress when you can easily become a politician and be making the money direct its dumb the government still even tends to give hand outs to state government every state should generate their own revenue.

Stellar docu-filmaker you are Jude. Keep doing what you do, the least we can do is to keep sharing. The lack of patriotism from the ruling class is truly heartbreaking. It is only in Nigeria, that you would have a ruling class who genuinely do not want Nigeria to succeed. The wicked country we we born into, what did the citizens of Nigeria do to deserve such leaders that we have?

I sincerely appreciate your work, and I believe we are all witnessing this situation. Here is my opinion, and I think it’s something we can accomplish. The first thing we need to do is unite with one voice through a movement (not a protest or road movement). Then, we can begin planning the way forward. This way, we can make decisions with one voice. We can continue discussing (which is good), but if we don’t come together and act swiftly, I fear we might end up like Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 (if you catch my drift).

That is the most quogent reason why people leave the country to look for redefinition of life and generation.

I wish this message got to more Nigerians.
The problem with Nigeria is the Citizens who sit down and behave like beggars in their own land. Always going out during elections to get the trinkets distributed by thieves lobbying for your submission. Laughing and making jokes out of issues that should be addressed with uttermost seriousness.
Your leaders keep feeding you shit because you don't resist. They keep exploiting you because you don't demand for better. The folly and cowardice in Nigeria is just alarming.
