I recommend using the Mann HU 6013 Z Oil filter, its higher quality trapping more contamination than the Audi factory filter. Glad to see you're using the 504.00 Audi rated motor oil, too many people have no idea this is required. Some think dumping any 5W40 Oil is fine, they have no idea they need to find a European car motor oil with the 504 rating. This is big reason why you never go to a quick lube or corner garage for service.
Thank you, Another (Keeping It Simple) great video...Crazy thing, i was contemplating on ordering the same exact Oil Extractor Pump you used but now see how good it really worked.
Keep in mind these come with two different oil specs one for the DBPA ( 190 hp FWD) and the CYMC (250 hp). Apparently as per the dealership my engine the dbpa b cycle engine uses oil spec 0w20. I purchased mine from the dealership since I was having trouble finding compatible oil locally. Research before you start pouring whatever oil into your vehicle 😉
Yeah that’s the exact reason I mentioned to cross-check which oil to use depending on where you’re from, due to different oil requirements/performance!
Just made that mistake🤦🏻♂️ getting new oil and returning the one I got, haven’t poured it yet. The 190hp engine doesn’t have any information about it. Every where I look they say 5w40 is what they use for the A4, but everyone is in the 250hp engine.
@@DIYDetail The guy at autozone gave me 0W-20 for my b9 2.0T fwd premium plus, and said to change it at 5,000 miles. Is that fine for the lower mileage, or is that no good? I’m skeptical.

Hey! the moment I saw your making DIY videos on Audi A4 B9 2017. I immediately subscribed! I was wondering if you can do a brake + Rotor change for this car please :D
Hey @psplimhacks, thanks for subscribing! 😊 I inspected my brakes a few weeks ago and they are starting to wear so I’ll be replacing them this Spring / Summer (just need warmer weather lol). Stay tuned!
I used to change my oil and air filter myself. Then i came to buy a BMW e90 i gave up on the air filter change. They made it so hard and you could damage the air flow sensor or something like that
Great! Thank you for helping me! Can you make a video for recharging the AC refrigerant? The low pressure port of the B9 chassis looks different from that of its previous platforms. Thanks again.
30 minutes is a stretch. Takes me no more than 15 minutes. For my 2020 A5 sport back, I do my own oil every 5k, and it takes much less time and less cost than going to the dealer. I also got a snap-in funnel that mounts to the oil cap threads. It's secure, doesn't leak and makes it a one-handed operation.
Great video, I’m hoping to avoid the dealer and do the service myself and was wondering how do reset the service indicator do you need any special device. Cheers
Hi! Thanks for the kind words. You can reset the oil change and tire pressure intervals on your own but the service reminder, you would need use the VAG-COM tool. Some have taken it to a dealer (or local German auto shop) and asked to reset it!
I believe Audi switched to an electronic system (no fluids). I checked my manual and there’s no service interval or mention of checking/replacing the fluid on B9s anymore
I followed and bought everything on this video, oil change complete with no issues. When you doing your brake pads? I need that video in my life. Also... I can't twist and turn open my fluid extractor, are you having the same issue?
Hi Kelvin! I'm glad it worked out for you and hopefully it was an easy process! I did have some difficulty in the beginning but the trick is to hold the base with your legs and then use both hands to turn the top lid. Since it's vacuum sealed, it takes some force to get it off I'm planning to do the brakes in the next few months once it's warmer in NJ haha
Do you ever pull the plug at the bottom of the engine for any of the oil changes? Sort of to allow anything that settled at the bottom of the oil pan to escape say every other or so oil changes? I believe the oil plug is plastic so I’d understand why you wouldn’t want to risk stripping it.
@@DIYDetail it's not just jacking it up. the b9 (and lots of audis) also have a sort of dirt cover bolted onto the entire bottom of the car you have to remove. really much easier with the vacuum extractor.
Hey @drunkenman8! I'd recommend getting one that can extract 6 liters at the minimum. When I extracted the oil, I noticed I had about 5.75 to 6 liters (close to 6 quarts of oil). It was overfilled by the previous owner. You could use the 5.3 liter extractor (roughly 5.5 quarts) but you might have to pour out the contents once the container is full and then re-attach the pump to double check if there's any oil left. Hope that helps!
great vedio . i have a quistion ; i bought an audi a4 2014 and when i check the oil level in the screen it showed its in the max level and it shows that the next oil change must be after 7000 km . should i wait after 7000 km or it may be not aqurate information
Hello! You can change the oil at anytime (as long as it’s within the interval the manufacturer stated). I personally do not like waiting a long period between oil changes as my car is exposed to stop/go traffic as well as different seasonal temperatures. I like to change it every 5,000 miles even though the recommended interval is 10,000 miles
No problem! I personally have not but there are some individuals that have done it on forums. Here’s a link to one of the posts about that: www.audiworld.com/forums/a4-b9-platform-discussion-212/2017-a4-rear-differential-oil-change-2979185/
Hey! Nope, oil changes and your own brake service do not void the warranty; however, if you use a different oil from the one Audi recommends (there’s a compliance number on the hood that should match the oil bottle) and it leads to engine troubles, it could void the warranty!
I doubt it would remove it but I’m not too sure. You’d also have a hard time removing sludge from the drain hole so the best way would be to drop the oil pan completely!
you wouldn't happen to know how to remove the subwoofer from the rear deck would you? that's the only thing i'm really unhappy about in my a4 and i can't find any resources on how to remove it. it doesn't just bolt onto the underside from the trunk like most cars; you have to take apart like half the interior.
Sorry for delay in getting back to you! Sadly it’s not an easy thing to remove. The vibration drives me insane too. There is a technical bulletin that Audi posted to add more “padding” around the top panel piece. It doesn’t really do much but it lowered the vibration from every song to song with strong a bass
Hey! My sticker and manual says to use VW 502 00 for gasoline engines, which is 5W-40 (Castrol Edge Professional G). Per Audi's website, you are using the right oil if your sticker says VW 508 00: (www.audiusa.com/content/dam/audiusa/Documents/Audi-2017-Technical-Service-Bulletin-1.22.2018.pdf)
Your probably have the 190 hp dbpa engine these come with two types of engines requiring different specs of oil. Your engine code will be either in your trunk where the spare is at or on the timing chain cover it will have a white sticker specifying what engine you have
Yes it’s safe! I would monitor it though if it continues to drop or if the oil after you fill up, drops to a lower level. It may indicate a leak in the system
Hi! Yes, you can still drain oil the traditional way by raising the car and pulling the drain plug. The filter; however, is still on the top of the engine bay. Hope that helps!
I personally haven’t tried to play around with that to see if there is a way. If you do find out, please let me know! I’d be interested in doing the same
Well this only begs the question why on earth do you pay a dealership x 5- 7 more for this operation? Please don’t tell it’s the free buns and coffee or the free news papers you can flick through! They have been taking the piss for decades and fortunately for me I have been aware and have done all of my own oil changes on all 3 family cars. I bet I saved the cost of another car!
Agreed! Just for curiosity, I called a few dealerships near me and the average quote was $150. This entire process, including the pump, cost me way less. It will be even cheaper next time since I already have the tools and just need the oil.
The oil and filter are easily over $100 not $40. My S4 takes 6.2 litres. I let Audi do it as they do a though inspection too for around $350 while the oil change alone would be about $200. Not worth my time and the hassle of proper disposal wasting more time to get that done. One of other sports cars takes about 9 litres I think.
I would not recommend that as the max you should push it to is 10,000 in my opinion (which is in line with Audi’s spec). With that said, it can be changed at 15,000 but you run the risk of further damaging your engine
If you change your oil frequently you should not have sludge? The oil drain plug will not remove most of this either. To clean sludge you should oven the valve cover and drop the oil pan. In some cars the oil plug actually sits above the very bottom so extraction can actually get more then normal.

It is still best recommended that you use the drain plug to drain your oil, in order to extract engine wear debris.
