Iwaizumi is such a beast! One very much underrated character IMO that deserves so much respect. He cares for Kageyama, commenting about his progress every time they play against Karasuno, he is a top ace, has the skill and the strength, not to mention the experience. And he is level headed and mature enough even to keep Oikawa on check.
@@s_lasgalen I’m gonna get into a few manga end spoilers but personally I really like Iwaizumi because he’s able to deal with Oikawa’s shit, but also because in general he’s similar to Daichi: level-headed, smart, and helps holds the team together. And (Spoilers!!!!) the fact that in the future he’s an Athletics Trainer and still has his friendly aggro rivalry with Oikawa is just fun to me lmao Also he’s cute fight me LMAO

I feel like Futakuchi (Date Tech's new captain/ace, #2) is very underrated. He's trying his best to be mature enough as a captain, even though last season he was pretty bratty and stubborn.
Same here! Among the characters from other school, him and kogane became my favorites. They're the cutest baby monsters. I wish I could adopt them and send them to Karasuno.
Sarah, one of my favorite scenes from the 2nd season is in this episode but the subtitles messed it up😭In the brief scene before the match, when Kageyama and Hinata are talking, and Kageyama admits that he’s intimidated because he knows that Oikawa can bring out the best of any team he’s on, Hinata replies “That’s true of every team except Karasuno” Implying that Kageyama is such a perfect fit for the team even Oikawa couldn’t replace him. Here, the subtitles say “but we’re Karasuno” instead. I don’t know Japanese, so I don’t know which translation is more accurate, but I think the first one makes the scene more meaningful, so I wanted to share!
I would just take a moment to appreciate the amazing sense of humour Sarah’s editor has as well.. Also, I think Sarah might be obsessed with the “Ubugawa guy” - strong feelings in the works here 🤣🤣
If you watch back on that last spike Koganegawa's arms were wide apart where the other 2 had their arms more straight up. He made a mistake in his placement, much like how in a previous episode Kuro was chastising Lev for holding his arms out instead of up and over.
What I love about Kageyama is that he still really idolizes Oikawa, like he's still the best in his eyes, even though he really wanna beat him also, and prove that he can be a better setter than Oikawa.
Something to keep in mind is Iwaizumi’s words “The strong are made stronger with six players.” It’s the mantra that continues to surface over and over throughout the series, emphasizing the fact that just because a team has one amazing player does not mean they are destined to win. For Karasuno, that’s Oikawa. For Seijoh, that’s Kageyama. Both teams will battle it out to experience the truth of Iwaizumi’s wisdom which entirely changed Oikawa and Kageyama’s perspective.
This match between Date Tech and Seijoh is enough to conclude just how good Seijoh's ace, Iwaizumi is. He's very consistent with receives, his attacks pack a punch and his experience as a spiker definitely shows when he sees and hits the ball between Kogane's hands. He's definitely the 2nd most overall skilled player after Oikawa in Seijoh.
If you notice Futakuchi from Date Tech(no. 2) has his number underlined on his jersey. This represents that he is the captain of his team. Another tidbit in Haikyuu is that Futakuchi and Bokuto are the only captains (that we’ve seen so far) that so not wear the number 1 (bonus point to whoever can tell me what number Bokuto wears). Daichi (Karasuno), Kuroo (Nekoma), Takeru (Wakutani Minami), Oikawa (Aoba Johsai) and Ushijima (Shiratorizawa) all wear the number 1. Edit: Also, the number that Koganegawa is wearing (no. 7) was the number that Aone wore in season 1. Aone now wears the number 1, even though he isn’t captain
Bo wears the number 4, which is traditionally the ace's number. It's the same number worn by Yamamoto, Iwaizumi, Aran, and other traditional wing spiker aces. On Karasuno, the number 4 is actually worn by Noya, the libero, pointing to how he's the true ace of the team rather than Asahi, since it's Noya who lifts the whole team up and makes them better.
@@skull1161 he is, I'm not saying no. I'm saying that Karasuno views the ace differently, possibly as influence from Nekomata and his coaching style. In Karasuno, everyone scores points when they can, making the ace's role more of the one who scores in a pinch. Thus the one who connects the team at all times, and not just when they're in trouble, is the libero.
@@SpringStarFangirl that makes sense but if were deciding who the ace is by who is used in a pinch its usually Hinata, Kageyama always sets to him when things are going bad.

Hey Sarah! One big reason for all the characters to have crazy hair is so that you can quickly pick out characters even if they are drawn more simply during wide angle shots, or when their faces are drawn making crazy reactions. This is especially important since this was originally a black and white comic book, so basically every named character needs a different hairstyle. I think this is also more important since everyone is wearing very similar clothes all the time whether in school or on the court.
That wacky hair segment was hysterical, I hope there's a similar thing for "most impossible move / play" and "most accurate portrayal of what playing volley ball is like"
**** Minor Spoilers By the end of the season is pratically impossible for anyone to not at least respect his abilities and overall aproach to the sport, he is a monster at what he does... but if someone doesn't really stops to try and understand his fears and his drive to prove that a normie can beat geniuses, then respect is all you're gonna feel for Oikawa, the flashback with his coach on the time-out is awesome and really shows that he took the words of the coach to his heart.
@@joaopaulosilva6622 one of my issues with Haikyuu is the fact that normal people can’t beat geniuses. Oikawa is shown to be the pinnacle of his power without having “natural” talent like Kageyamas pinpoint accuracy. I fully respect Oikawa for putting up the best fight against volleyball geniuses
@@evilhawk411 in season 4 Kita actually mentions that he thinks that is the wrong way to think of it. He says that those called geniuses just work harder or smarter than everyone else. That they can dedicate themselves so fully to something even if they "would start coughing up blood". And I remember Kita's words, yeah, they make a lot of sense but it's impossible to deny that even being probably the ones who pushes themselves the most the so called genius HAVE something that the others can't hope to imitate. And again this could be just having an edge, to my mind every "genius" on the show is someone who has worked himself to the bone and I respect them for it.
Btw Sarah! there's an extra scene for the end of season 2 that's a separate video from the last episode! I feel it's a must watch to have the full experience of season 2 lol
The interaction between hinata and kageyama where they are talking about oikawa about him bringing 100% of every team he plays on. And then Hinata said "We're Karasuno". And for me it is Hinata's way of boosting Kageyama's confident that only him can bring out the 100% of Karasuno specifically the freak quick
2 things from this episode. First, Iwa-chans line, "Your resolve is weak first year" was just badass. Second, I saw a comment somewhere else saying that date techs setter was the exact opposite of Nishinoya. He's tall, and his hair color is reverse of Nishinoyas. Haha
Editor-san, Cauliflower/Broccoli hair was the captain of the Shinzen team at the training camp! Apparently there was more than one on the team too…but your CAULIFLOWER/EARTH picture really cracked me up. Love the awards graphics, well done! My vote for Weird Hair Award was the ex-captain of the Ohgi Minami team…that short cut with the waving three fronds still makes me stop sometimes and think “but…HOW.”
The hair thing is probably due to two reasons: 1/ Japanese modern culture highly values outward self-expression, especially moreso in men than other cultures. However, this doesn't apply to school kids who are very much expected to toe the line when it comes to blending in. 2/ Manga/anime culture always has crazy hairdos. Just look at Dragon Ball and Yugioh and you get the idea.
it's also because he's a recurring character and they want to remember him easily. With the other teams the captains and their ace tend to have a more interesting hair style and the others have a more simple style.
Yesssss! Love having back to back Sarah haikyuu react weeks! Is anyone making sure that she reacts to the Land vs Air OVA after season 2? 🥺🥺🥺 Because those are actually canon
In the dub version of the scene where Iwaizumi breaks through the iron wall, he says "you can't fake experience, first year" instead of "your resolve is weak, first year" and I low key love that change up. It really emphasizes the difference between a third year spiker and a first year setter. Love your reactions btw!
This ep pushed Kamasaki up as 1 of my fav charas in this series. LOVE what the VA did with his laugh (5:28)! LOL Adding my support as usual & gonna leave my personal opinions about some of the iffy subs as usual (there were a LOT this ep, too) : 2:36 「烏野は3年残ってるんだな…」➔ "Karasuno's got some 3rd-yrs left". This is OK, but it's more like "Guess the 3rd-yrs stayed on at Karasuno...". That "some" was a bit extra. 5:17 「生意気だったから」➔ "I was selfish". Not fond of their word choice here.「生意気」is more like "bratty/cheaky/smart-ass" than "selfish". 10:14 「黄金川君が得意な場所へ…レシーブ!」➔ "Go somewhere convenient for Koganegawa-kun... And receive!". This should be more like "To the place/location that Koganegawa-kun does his best at (setting)... receive/pass!". Sakunami is saying he's going to pass the ball to a point where Koganegawa can best perform as a setter, not that he's gonna situate himself in a good spot on the court for his own receiving. 10:26 「多少ネットに近くなってもいい」➔ "It doesn't matter if it's not that close to the net". The "not" is a mistranslation. It should be "It doesn't matter if it gets a bit close to the net". 16:21「締めが甘いぜ、1年坊主!」➔ "Your resolve is weak, you little 1st year!". This is OK, but a bit unfortunate since「締め」 can be translated to both "resolve" & "tightening". So Iwaizumi's single line can be taken 2 ways: 1) That his resolve is weak & 2) The tightening of the block itself is weak. 25:16「岩泉さんが言ってたのはメンバーの力を足し算じゃなくて、いかにかけ算できるかって事だったんだ」➔ "Iwaizumi-san was talking about adding everyone's strengths together. He was talking about multiplying them". The 1st part is incorrect. It should be more like "Iwaizumi-san wasn't talking about (simply) adding everyone's strengths together, but rather about how you should multiply them." 25:42「烏野以外は…だなっ?」 ➔ "But we're Karasuno, remember?" Some others have already commented on this bit, but this translation was a bit weird for me, too.
I really enjoyed your video😀 "Wacky hair rewards" was really fun😂 Yes, some characters have funny hair. Haikyu has so many characters, they are needed to be charactarized ☺️
i think the funky different hair is just an easier way to help distinguish each person. also i think sometimes its the person who draws them just wants to try something that would be a bit more on the unrealistic side.
My absolute favorite editing gag in this series is the refusal to show Daiki and using the picture of literal cauliflower each time. Accidentally did a spit take laughing too hard at that 😂💯
I'd like to point out that with this style of anime (where the noses and mouths are simplified) there is only so much you can do with characters' eyes and maybe some variation of the shape of the face. The 'crazy' hairstyles help to distinguish the characters from one another. In fact I thought Haikyuu has been very subdued when it comes to hairstyles and hair colours (very few gravity defying hairstyles, and no green/blue/purple-haired characters)
The subtitles at the very end didn't convey Hinata's message clearly. When Kageyama said, "No matter what team Oikawa is on, he can bring the absolute best in his players"; Hinata actually meant "that's not true for our team". Which basically meant that Kageyama is till now the only one who can use Hinata's super agility with the freaky quick. Oikawa can't use Hinata that way. To set a toss that accurately from anywhere on the court while also monitoring where Hinata is leading for an attack. That's a genuis trick that till now only Kageyama and Hinata can pull off. Even Oikawa said that to Iwaizumi in S1 that he can't do that thing but even then he (Oikawa) won't lose to Kageyama as a setter. Also, coach Nekomata said in S1 as well, that "this attack is something only they can pull off". That was Hinata's way of cheering Kageyama up :) Just laying a very simple fact.
I think the last conversation between Hinata and Kageyama was kinda lost in the translation. Kageyama says, "No matter what team he is on, Oikawa is able to bring out the spiker's strength better than I can" to which Hinata responds, "Except Karasuno, right?" I think that was the affirmation Kageyama needed from his teammate. Sort of like, 'Oikawa might be great, but we trust that you will be able to bring out our spiker's strength better than Oikawa'.
My favorite part of this show is the world building and how you aren’t just part of karasuno but a fan of volleyball in their world and you care about every match no matter who is in it
Whoa whoa whoa!! Is that a new intro? Amazing and so funny and creative. I love it, especially the edits. Lmao to the whacky hairdos hahahaha 🤭 Karasuno vs Seijoh will be epic! Ugh I wish i could watch your reactions everyday! Anyways excited for this match!!! Woot woot!
The eye thing: because manga/anime are visual mediums, they tend to over exaggerate features to get feelings across. It’s just a way to show intensity of feelings in the moment. Much like how buggy Hinata’s eyes get during his serious moments. So excited for the next reactions!! Let’s go Seijoh v Karasuno!!!
A lot of the wild hair stuff is probably partially so the audience can tell the characters apart from each other (there's so many of them after all!) ! Love your reactions as always!!!! You bring such a great perspective on a series that's already so well loved :)
Haikyuu actually has tame hairstyles for a shonen (boys') manga(comic) genre. In order to get published in a prestigious magazine like Shonen Jump (marketed for the mainstream public, mainly boys) the artists have to design the characters be recognizable by their silhouettes.
I had to log in on my desktop just to comment and say I am dying laughing at this reaction. The edits? Great. The jokes? Amazing. The 'cruciferous vegetable' bit kills me, Idrk why. Excellent stuff.
I believe the wacky hair is simply to make it easier to differentiate between the characters (and sometimes there's a connection between the character, name and hair). Great reaction as always! :)
At the end of season two are you planning on doing a video on your “all star team selection” like you did for season one, if so can you add who your bench players would be and coach too.
I've really enjoyed your Haikyuu reactions since season 1. I haven't commented yet but loving the new intro and the award ceremony 🤣 you will definitely do another one of those with future players

Your editor is the single greatest editor in the world. The wacky hair awards was on POINT!!!!!
Haha
Sarah watches Haikyuu like she's doing video review sessions for her next game. Her attention to detail is crazy lol. I love it!
Editor-san, Cauliflower/Broccoli hair was the captain of the Shinzen team at the training camp! Apparently there was more than one on the team too…but your CAULIFLOWER/EARTH picture really cracked me up. Love the awards graphics, well done! My vote for Weird Hair Award was the ex-captain of the Ohgi Minami team…that short cut with the waving three fronds still makes me stop sometimes and think “but…HOW.”
ooooo, nice intro plus wacky hair awards - great editing. Sarah and her editor - a really great combination
With the other teams the captains and their ace tend to have a more interesting hair style and the others have a more simple style.
i love Date Tech. characters, team dynamic, playing style, i don't know why, i just do
Your videos give me a serotonin boost every time I watch!
Omg, the crazy hair segment was hilarious
Got me laughing out loud while working
The ubugawa guy there just cause he was ugly hahahaha
You're gonna love the next match. One of the best matches in the series.
The picture of just some cauliflower instead of the guy in the weird hair awards actually had me dying of laughter Sarah.
Its just anime hair, don't worry about it. Also Noya's hairstyle is cool AF.
Yesssss! Love having back to back Sarah haikyuu react weeks! Is anyone making sure that she reacts to the Land vs Air OVA after season 2? 🥺🥺🥺 Because those are actually canon
I hope she does, they're worth it for the extra character moments! Though Land vs Air is the Ovas to watch between seasons 3 and 4 😉
Wouldn't it be better to have her see "Land vs Air" & "The Path of the Ball" after sn3, before sn4?
In the dub version of the scene where Iwaizumi breaks through the iron wall, he says "you can't fake experience, first year" instead of "your resolve is weak, first year" and I low key love that change up. It really emphasizes the difference between a third year spiker and a first year setter. Love your reactions btw!
This ep pushed Kamasaki up as 1 of my fav charas in this series. LOVE what the VA did with his laugh (5:28)! LOL
Adding my support as usual & gonna leave my personal opinions about some of the iffy subs as usual (there were a LOT this ep, too) :
2:36 「烏野は3年残ってるんだな…」➔ "Karasuno's got some 3rd-yrs left".
It should be more like "Iwaizumi-san wasn't talking about (simply) adding everyone's strengths together, but rather about how you should multiply them."
25:42「烏野以外は…だなっ?」 ➔ "But we're Karasuno, remember?" Some others have already commented on this bit, but this translation was a bit weird for me, too.
I really enjoyed your video😀
"Wacky hair rewards" was really fun😂
Yes, some characters have funny hair. Haikyu has so many characters, they are needed to be charactarized ☺️
i think the funky different hair is just an easier way to help distinguish each person. also i think sometimes its the person who draws them just wants to try something that would be a bit more on the unrealistic side.
the wacky hairdo awards LMFAO, also the shinzen and ubugawa guys catching strays 😭 the cauliflower pic got me on the floor djsbdudu
Yachi being an empath and getting sick was too cute.
I finished the manga and this episode is something to go back to and watch again. Haikyuu really has an outstanding writing.
"Brought him up just because he's ugly" 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I choked on my water when the *Wacky Hairdo Awards* pops up 😂
LOL THIS IS MY FAVORITE EPISODE JUST FOR YOU THROWING EVERYONE’S APPEARANCE UNDER THE BUS
I think the last conversation between Hinata and Kageyama was kinda lost in the translation.
Kageyama says, "No matter what team he is on, Oikawa is able to bring out the spiker's strength better than I can" to which Hinata responds, "Except Karasuno, right?"
I think that was the affirmation Kageyama needed from his teammate. Sort of like, 'Oikawa might be great, but we trust that you will be able to bring out our spiker's strength better than Oikawa'.
THE AWARDINGS IS SO WELL EDITED IFC, I’M LAUGHING SO HARD
My favorite part of this show is the world building and how you aren’t just part of karasuno but a fan of volleyball in their world and you care about every match no matter who is in it
Whoa whoa whoa!! Is that a new intro? Amazing and so funny and creative. I love it, especially the edits. Lmao to the whacky hairdos hahahaha 🤭
Karasuno vs Seijoh will be epic! Ugh I wish i could watch your reactions everyday! Anyways excited for this match!!! Woot woot!
Genial! Greetings from Mexico!
Omg I was dying when you came up with the haircuts 😭😂
The eye thing: because manga/anime are visual mediums, they tend to over exaggerate features to get feelings across. It’s just a way to show intensity of feelings in the moment. Much like how buggy Hinata’s eyes get during his serious moments.
So excited for the next reactions!! Let’s go Seijoh v Karasuno!!!
YOOOO THE NEW INTRO GOES HARD, Lowkey missing the old starting music but I am excited for new change!
5:28 never gon get over this guys laughter...i'm trying to imagine the person doing his voice over😂
Wacky hairdos is practical. It provides the viewer an easy reference and the ability to quickly follow the action, even with new characters.
In order to get published in a prestigious magazine like Shonen Jump (marketed for the mainstream public, mainly boys) the artists have to design the characters be recognizable by their silhouettes.
omggg the wacky hair awards edit was HILARIOUS!! I was cackling!!
I had to log in on my desktop just to comment and say I am dying laughing at this reaction. The edits? Great. The jokes? Amazing. The 'cruciferous vegetable' bit kills me, Idrk why. Excellent stuff.
Also mad props to the editor 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I believe the wacky hair is simply to make it easier to differentiate between the characters (and sometimes there's a connection between the character, name and hair). Great reaction as always! :)
At the end of season two are you planning on doing a video on your “all star team selection” like you did for season one, if so can you add who your bench players would be and coach too.
Sarah you forgot the hair of the former captain of ohgi minami
LMAO love the hairdo rewards xD you'll see more in the 4th season, can't wait to revisit
die from laughing XDDDDD at least give Mr. broccoli a real picture!
Sooo excited to watch the remaining episodes with you, Sarah! It's gonna be a wild ride from here on 😁
The eye bulging close up always reminded me of the kubrik stare of insanity.
"The wacky hair rewards" OMG, Sarah I love you lol
I love the Manga panel where Aone and Hinata walk past each other cuz Hinata’s face is the same size as Aone’s buttcheek
The reasons for the strange hairdos is probably because the characters are easier to tell apart that way. Also, they're fun =D
Konegawa's hair is like that because he's a cute little baby chick who just hatched.
YAY MOAR SARAH!!!!
OMGGGG SARAH you are amazing! And also your editor, editing in the weird hairstyles just made me laugh. I can't wait for you to see this next match!!!
Also my theory with the hairs is that a lot of haikyuu characters resemble birds? So sometimes the hairs pull from those characteristics.
the editing for this video wasss soooo damnnn goodddd
Damn, I'm loving the new video edit. Really cool, Sarah. Huge fan of you since I was a teen and watched you play for Unilever Rio here in Brazil!
The Cauliflower photo killed me lol.
Just for some cultural context, 119 is the Japanese phone number for emergency services, while 110 is the number for the police.
The wacky hair breakdown. Epic 🤣
Kogane is just soo cutee with his little pikachu hairdo
the edits on this video were very very good!
I've really enjoyed your Haikyuu reactions since season 1. I haven't commented yet but loving the new intro and the award ceremony 🤣 you will definitely do another one of those with future players
16:21 I AM SORRY DATE TECH BUT IWA WAS SOOOO COOL RIGHT THERE
Ahh! Adorable new opening!
The wacky hair awards! I’m dying 🤣🤣🤣
CAULIFLOWER FROM EARTH 😭😭
Wacky hairdo nominations hahaha this is going straight to the oscars !
Amazing reaction! 🔥👍
Iwa-chan🥺🥺
Sarah has already thought Kogane's hair is wacky, I wonder how will she react to other characters hairstyles later then? 😂
(spoiler for future seasons in the comments)
A redhead blocker, or a certain feather-like hair ace, for instance?
