Wow! It’s hard to believe that you responded to my comment asking why you had not covered School Days by Stanley Clarke- the greatest bassist ever, and as I was checking my emails I found one from Talking Bass (You) on Stanley Clarke! Blew me away! In your video you teach that tune so clearly that even a beginner can learn to at least get a good working concept on the song, you’re a great bass instructor! I’ve been following you since 2015 and you never disappoint. The next Stanley Clarke song I’d like to see you tackle is Lopsy Lu! …and Tom Sawyer by Getty Lee of Rush. Keep up the good work, thanks Mark!
Been trying it for YEARS (but in E, dammit) - as Stanley says, we'll have to do what he had to do - practice, practice and practice (remember HE WROTE IT). Methinks a rough copy might be possible in another 70 years or so....
I don't read music. When this album came out I learned this song by playing all the parts on my record player, over and over again until I hit the right notes. I even learned most of the solo. I was a huge fan.
Hey guys, i was so exited, that i learned it on the bass section of my keyboard 🙄🙄. The whole Band was laughing with me, as i tried teaching our Bassist, how to play it.. Huge fun factor these Evergreens...
Love this riff and sound. Solid stuff. How 'bout a little "Pop Virgil"? That's about the funkiest thing I've ever heard. Incidentally, I saw Stanley back in Phoenix many years ago. He was SOLO BASS on this tour. The Crusaders opened for him.
THANKS MARK. I'VE BEEN "TOYING" WITH THIS LINE FOR A LONG TIME, THIS IS A GREAT HELP. NOW, IT'S GOING TO BE EASIER. THE ONE STANLEY SONG I CAN'T SEEM TO EVER FIND MUSIC FOR IS "LOPSY LU" !!! THIS, ALONG WITH "POWER" WERE MY TWO FAVORITE SONGS ON HIS SECOND ALBUM. AGAIN, THANKS !!!
Hi Mark. Wow another awesome lesson. Thanks! I really appreciate how you go into technique detail and show things at a pace I can see what you're doing. I saw you listed a darkglass overdrive in your gear list. It would be great if you can add a bit on how your gear choice is shaping the tone too. Thanks
Hi Mark, just want to say that I love your stuff, it's way above other channels when it comes to quality and knowledge you share! Speaking of which, I'm trying to approach "Space" by Chick Corea Electrik Band II, and I have no idea how even to lock in with the rhythm or the drums 😂 I'd love to see your take on it, if you ever have a chance to do it! Thanks for all your hard work again!
Garcia is out and out great but the funkiest bass solo? There’s soooo many. I’m a fan of Jaco, RIP, and Stanley Clarke’s “School Days” and his RTF work…Funky to me isn’t speed but syncopation and off beat rhythms, still Garcia is terrific…
Man, resting your thumb on the A string to both anchor your hand and mute the string, is one of those simple "why didn't I think of that?" techniques. I always plucked the D and G instead of strumming because of ineffective muting. Thanks!
Btw, your sound comes very close to how Stanley sounded on that tune. What pickup configuration did you use? (I dont know the color scheme of these pickups)
Life is just a Game ! Please !11 and then of course Hot Fun , for its brilliant simplicity and repetition. If you’re really feeling ambitious , break don Lopsy Lu for us all , and then after you’re done with that , please take a real at Rock & Roll Jelly ( good luck ! 😮)
Mr Clark has never been recognised has a great bas player . Not only most bass player but also the online bass tutor's. Stanley technique on the Electic Bass and Double Bass need to be covered. Plus his Alembic Bass. Return 2 Forever was full of virtuoso players
The Awakening was originally done by The Reddings, not Les Claypool, who redid it almost note for note. I've seen various bassist think that this was an original by Claypool but it's not. Dexter Redding, son of Otis Redding was the player and originator of this song.
Hi Mark. For another Stanley lesson I would recommend "Lopsy Lu".
Plus 'Rock 'n Roll Jelly' and 'Workin' Man'. ruclips.net/video/gPnEFkg0Ilw/видео.html

Strum technique is perfect for me. You and Sir Nick Beggs are my teachers. You gentlemen are simply the best..
I've been stuck learning this jam for months. Thanks Mark!

You’ve got to cover more Stanley Clarke!
I don't read music. When this album came out I learned this song by playing all the parts on my record player, over and over again until I hit the right notes. I even learned most of the solo. I was a huge fan.
Me too!

School Days = Top class bass playing.

I have been watching you for a while. I feel like I learned so much from this video. Thanks Mark.
Hurray for posting it.thanks
Hi Mark. For another Stanley lesson, would recommend "Rock n'roll Jelly"
This is a good breakdown. Simple power chords but a lot of little quirky moves make it so special. Thanks

Ty ty. I love that song❤
Awesome. Thanks Mark.

Thanks Mark much appreciated
Time to get schooled by Mark!
Kick ass lesson.
Love Stanley and this song, I've been playing this riff for years but your way is so much easier 🌴🌴 Thanks
I like playing the chords with my fingernails, it's a lot easier and brighter. 🌴🌴

Very cool, as always.
It's not "in the key of A" , it's in the key of D . The five chord is A7 .
Please Would You Show us the 2nd part???
So hoping this is the first of your Stanley Clarke series - Lopsy Lu next??
Btw, your sound comes very close to how Stanley sounded on that tune. What pickup configuration did you use? (I dont know the color scheme of these pickups)
red is split coil, green is single. So that’s pretty much a PJ setup
Sounds great! How about a lesson on Pop Virgil?

I totally disagree. Stanley is recognised as a complete bass legend.
Can you go over Les Claypool's The Awakening?? Pleease

@@setaylw yeah I know it's not claypool's original song but I like his version way better.
That's a great looking bass, who makes it?

The dancer, please Mark.
Just sounds like the theme from Banana Splits. And i checked. Banana splits were on tv before the song.
🎉😢
