On the eve of the New Year, you'll find these 'Old Men' proudly displayed in each village, sitting n chairs or cycles, holding empty bottles of alcohol or donation box. The atmosphere is lively with fun music as the boys, with their makeshift creation, ask for contributions from passers-by traffic.
The 'Old Man' represents all the troubles and misfortunes of the passing year. By setting it ablaze, the community metaphorically burns away the negativity, embracing a fresh start with the dawn of the New Year.
And so, in the glow of the burning 'Old Man,' Goans welcome the coming year with a sense of renewal and positivity. It's a creative and heartfelt way to leave the past behind and step into the future.
