Cgi anime was just never that good in my opinion, it just looks weird. And on top of that, you have animation with the Cgi makes it even worse. (This is GG16 btw, I changed my name)
Making CG look 2D is pretty hard to nearly impossible to do... I've watched the GuiltyGearXrd's Art Style conference. There no way somebody can pull that kind CG on a thight budjet. They need to manually edit the model normal and meshes and mask for each frames one by one. Actually Houseki no Kuni also went trough a similar process of manually sculpting the model for each frame. It"s nothing like doing standar CG it all frame by frame manual editing and as far as I know it's the only way to get it right. It's ridiculous that there is still studio that try to pull fake 2D CG to save money when the required process is really hard and expensive.
CGI and anime have more or less a love/hate relationship. You either love it, or it goes horribly wrong and you hate it. For example, Beserk 2016 is a trainwreck of trainwrecks, whereas beastars is actually watchable

The best anime to pulls Cgi is Houseki no Kuni because of its premise it fits perfectly better even than fully 2D
