  • NVME drives are supposed to herald greater speeds coupled with greater reliability over traditional platter spinning drives. However clearly the technology has yet to mature. And worse than mechanical hard drives when they go they tend to go fast! As illustrated by this 1tb Corsair MP600 drive which despite being listed as being 93% Good died within minutes, with the failure resulting in preventing the system from booting from it's good boot drive. So a sign that your NVME2 is on the verge of dying is if you experience failure or slow boot times.

Yup. Have had 2 of them seem to fail recently! (after working for a while ) One then ran really hot when placed in an external NMVE USB reader. Not sure what the "h" is going on... Technology still not there yet?

I hope anyone can answer this, my PC won't sometimes boot up and only the RGB RAM sticks light up. I turn it off, i leave it for a bit, come back an hour later and then it boots up. Once it boots up, i don't dare shut it down because it will take time to get it booting again. And sometimes whenever it does try and boot up i get the "insert boot device" error. Could this be possibly the MVme?

Bought an M.2 drive from eBay “open box” this past June 19th. This past Sunday I had to send my PC to Best Buy’s Geek Squad because my computer wouldn’t boot anymore. “Recovery - A required device is not detected.” I will be getting my money back once my PC is fixed with its original SATA SSD serving as its boot drive again.

NVME DRIVES ARE RUBBISH: If you go to Amazon reviews you will see that the worst ones get a 79% 5* rating, while the top of the line get 91%, with most at 85%. This is not a "mature" technology but a failed technology. SSD SATA drives are not much better. Compare this with the truly mature technology of spinning drives and there is no contest. There is no excuse for manufacturers to continue making these time bombs. Computers are hateful enough without having to hold your breath every time you use an NVMe drive. I know that lots of people, myself included, get lucky and these can last for years (especially if you do as the manufacturers say and use only a fraction of their capacity - duh!) but anyone who does rely on these needs to be vigilant about making backups and really should have a plan B, a second capable computer to use during down time. The only technology I know of that is capable of causing so much human misery is Windows. I'm a retired computer programmer. Come on, manufacturers, this is hardly rocket science.

my drive (Silicon Power 1TB - NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen3x4 2280 SSD) just up and died today while I was playing a game online with friends, the thing lasted less than a year and I mostly only used it to boot Windows off of, most other data and programs go in external drives. What a joke

Mine just died too. SP Gen 4 2TB. It works in an external enclosure, but really slow. It started disappearing occasionally, and then quit altogether.

I have an M2 SSD too it works, but I had so many crashes in the beginning. Also as I wanted the best performance installed Windows on it. If I'm gonna have issues with it I'm kinda screwed.
Expensive and very unreliable. Whenever I'm gonna reinstall Windows probably I'm gonna throw out the M2 and just use a regular SSD. Terrible piece of Technology.

Just create a clone copy on an SSD incase it dies, who knows you may run on for years.
