My understanding is they had a more elaborate MV storyboarded for an outdoor shoot, but it wouldn't stop raining, so they rented this nearby house for the day and improvised the whole thing. I've heard it called low budget, but I think they pulled it off really well. The limited scenes. The natural lighting. The rain on the windows. Two people, not together but in the same house. It all fits the mood of the song perfectly.
