Keep the grip challenges going! :)
I thought you put all of your stat points into strength, but actually you seem to be just as charismatic as you are strong. Keep it up and heavy!
Larry: The guy I grew up with had an unbelievable grip that Tommy Kono learned after he had his gym on Maui in the mid-1960s - Tommy had weightlifting and strength demonstrations and in one of them at the Kahului Shopping Center, Tommy bent a railroad spike which Frank straightened out and gave it back to Tommy! Frank Jacintho could tear 3 US quarters at once into 6 pieces, tear apart a US quarter into 3 pieces with the middle piece falling to the ground, etc. Frank was featured tearing a US quarter into two, quarter after quarter, on a late September 1982 episode of ABC's "That's Incredible". Frank was able to tighten and loosen lug nuts on trucks, carry a whole cane hauler wheel into the shop for repair ... instead of using the fork life (!), etc.

The intro is so damn sick. Gets me pumped up every time. That deadlift slam with the chalk on the ground causing the smoke effect is so cool.
The best things that have helped my grip are pullups and dumbbell shrugs. Grip is the weakest link on shrugs. Some people use grips/hooks to take this weak link out, but I treat shrugs as a grip / arm / shoulder workout.
When I heard the first goal of 120Kgs, I about fell out of my chair 🤣. Im decently strong and the most ive closed was 185lbs. 120kgs is INSANE!!
I’ve had these gripper things for 2 weeks and I can do 225 lbs fairly easy. But 250 lbs seems like I can’t even budge it.
You are just not as strong as you think you are 🤡
If you want to see some impressive grip strength especially from sleeper builds then take it to a climbing/bouldering gym. It would be very interesting to see the results.
iron wokers and sheep shearers would be cool too
Climbers dont do very well on dynamometr in general. If you know who Alexey Rubtsov (world champion 2009, olympian) is - i can probably find his result (spoiler it's somewhere near his bodyweight)
No, climbers don't develop their crushing strength that much. Their grip technique is mostly isometric and they have great endurance, nothing to do with peak strength crushing something in your fingers.
@@user-sc9ud8wh3t that's quite surprising. Very interesting. I stand corrected.
@@shakya00thats extremely reductive. There are several forms of climbing, and hundreds of types of hand holds. To say that "climbers don't train (a form of grip)" would be like saying "powerlifters don't do sled pulls or farmers walks." @antonbarkish5924 YES! Exactly correct. I ended up purchasing the same tool Larry used and did aroud 65-70kg initially but with a couple months of practice I hit 96.6kg recently. 🤙🏻I am closing a 2.5 pretty easily and credit card closing a 2. I'm training for the Crushed to Dust Challenge, but the rolling thunder is kicking my ass! 🙂
It is rare to see people like Larry so humble and positive

People like Larry who are not insecured are always positive.
How so
It's not rare.
To be fair to the first guy i was at armwrestling practice and my friend has a CoC 2.5 that i was able to close easily and i can barely rep a 1 for 10 at home. i think the metal gets worn out over time.
@dunnobagels Honestly I think it had more to do with my injury: not being fully recovered, not placing the tool in my hand properly for good technique, sweaty palms, etc. I own three of the top hand dynamometers now and I'm maxing out at 98.3kg after a few months of practice. Setting it in the proper part of your hand makes a huge difference. I also have good days and bad days and apparently in the video was a bad one. 😂
@@degradatedI love how you are desperately coming up with excuses just like the аutist you are 🤡
I got a 200 lb grip trainer which at this point is light for me, I can do 25 to 30 reps in a row on a good day. I also have a 250 lb grip trainer which takes all I have to close once, some days I cant even close it fully.
Man, even Larry’s laugh sounds strong af 😅
I have one of these and did 112kg with my right hand once about two years ago. I am getting older and weaker so can't hit that mark any longer. At age 58 each year my grip gets weaker. Still far above average for someone my age. I also don't train my grip but worked construction for over 30 years. Most people don't like shaking my hand and will often comment on my grip once they do.....
112kg is incredible, even better than Larry! However, sir please stop crushing people's hands during handshakes, you may break their bones 😂.
@@murozman lol! BTW I am 6'-4", 275lbs so that helps! My readings are in the high 80's low 90's now so people's hands and Larry's money is safe now! lol! Every year my grip gets weaker and weaker. :( Old age is a bummer.....
@Joel-McConnell Good job, sir. Very respectable scores. Age is not necessarily a huge determining factor, at least from what I have researched, in holding anyone back from being super strong for grip. Odd Haugen is a great example. He holds several World records to this day, competing with 20 year olds and still lifting more (usually on the Rolling thunder or similar). He is well into his 70s. Now don't get me wrong, if there are underlying health issues then grip strength can start diminishing. You are only 58! That is not old by today's standards. Also, the strongest grip in the world in my opinion is Carl Myerscough and he is nearly 50. Use it or lose it. You have heard this many times. Go out and buy some inexpensive grippers and other grip equipment and I guarantee that your dyno scores will go back up, if you care. But please don't use age as an excuse. 😊
@@degradated I get that but they train their grip purposefully, they are also outlirers for their ages. My grip was naturally gained over 30+ years of construction which I no longer do so my grip demises each and every year. I do have one of those high end Iron 80 grippers and can close the highest setting(I forget it's poundage?) but it is getting harder to do. I am not interested in wasting what time I have left on this planet training my grip, other things to be done with that time and limited energy before it is all gone along with my grip anyway. I use my gripper when I am watching armwrestling events and that is about the extent of my training to try and maintain what I have left, it does help to maintain it some but again other more import things to be worried about. Even my dynometer just sits in it's case collecting dust, rarely pull it out. I got it to check on my demises over time as I age like once per year......regards.

Just had the chance to try this for the first time ever, and I think it was the same machine as well! The one I used only seemed to be adjusted 1 notch wider -- not 100% sure. I managed to hit 75-76 kg, and I think on a good day I could possibly break 80 kg.
Honestly, I think my grip is pretty solid, so I am quite impressed by everyone who hit 80+ on that thing. Some of those guys were like a 100 pounds lighter than me. Larry definitely attracted a strong crowd. Many of my friends who are physically active were around the 45-55 kg mark, which I believe to be around average for a healthy 25-40 year old man.

120kgs is a serious pull! I train grip specifically (have taken it very seriously) and see myself as somewhat of an outlier (hehe) and the best I've ever put out was 124kgs (so far 130kgs this year hopefully!). Anything over 90kgs is an extremely good pull likely 1 in 500+ people when tested in a randomized sample of men. You can never guess what a person's grip is by just looking at someone and that's the beauty of grip sport! Many people have trained their grips without knowing it whether they have broken loose lug nuts at their dads mechanic shop when they were younger or they work with their hands in their day to day job. Truly, 80kgs is a very strong pull. People who begin their grip training journey usually see the numbers rise quickly which is what makes grip so cool. More to say! Awesome video. Larry your a beast have been watching you for years. Thanks for the years of entertainment in strength sports.

I have no way of knowing what I can actually squeeze because it wasn't a soft touch or anything, the needle pins right to the max every time I check it.
All I do know is I could close my heavy grips 250 once when I first got 200 and now I can do 8 and almost closed the 300.

Knew he was lying right when he said he "broke his hand"... If it was true, his other hand would have gotten better numbers
@@Ryan-wx1biHello. I am not known as a liar. I can show you scans of my two metacarpal broken in the right hand several months prior. My right hand was always about 1.5x stronger than left. The reason the results were so close between my two hands is because I was still in the recovery phase during the filming. A few months later, after plenty of training, I am at nearly 100kg now and back to full stength. 96.6kg is my highest peak performance that I have a photo of. I'd be happy to do a 90+kg pull on video if anyone wants to challenge me. Already did a CoC 2.5 close on my channel but people still criticize. It's easy to sit behind the computer (or likely on your phone) and pass judgement, but you will not always be correct. 🫵🏻
@cxvxcbcxn Ok. I posted a clip of a 2.5 close as promised, so it's your turn for a #4. 😂
@@Ryan-wx1bi I have never been a liar about anything. I can show you scans of my two broken metacarpal in my dominant hand just months before the video. Anyhow, I responded to most of your comments and challenges by immediately posting a 2.5 CoC close on my channel if you care to look. My right hand had been approximately 1.5x stronger than my left at my peak before the break, which explains similar figures during the healing phase. I am now hitting 98.35kg on my hand dynamometer with right and 93.75kg with left (with low testosterone), after a few months of training both hands. Those figures will improve when I get testosterone therapy, hopefully soon.

The intro always gets me jacked ASF...💪
This is something, that even though I am small, I would have probably surprised how much grip I had.
That guy didn't close no COC 2.5. That's like twice what he did.
The ratings that COC give their grippers aren't related at all to numbers being squeezed on a dyno.
COC 3 is rated at 280lbs by the company, but closing one doesn't require you to be ANYWHERE near 280 on a dyno.
Not sure at all how they rate their grippers, but COC 3s are actually around 150lbs of resistance to close
@@dan2318oc i think rates at the center of the handle. RGC rates at the very end, and neither of them are “accurate” relative to a human hand. But if you’re suggesting that closing a coc 3 and getting a dynamometer reading of ~70kg are approximately the same thing then that is wrong.
Basically I agree with the first comment here. He was nowhere in the same realm as a 2.5. Not even close.
@@anomanderrake440 the new COC's are way weaker rated. And they been around for like a decade now.

Serioulsy ...
I have a bunch of grippers at home too. Modern 2.5 is like an old 2.0 .... I closed that at 19 for reps with a 185 bench at the time , lol. It does not take much. Also the COC is all fingers while the grip tester is all thumb. You can train your thumb on COC if you do it consciously
Dude was not capping. Just the reality of COC and BREAKING BONES AS A NATTY
I can do a 2.0 5 times in a row and 220lbs is 100kg so I probably could've closed it .
COC grip strength doesn't translate to grip strength on the dynamometer. They are different types of grip strength because they are designed differently. People with large hands usually do much better on the dynamometer then they do with COC grippers. I have all of the COC grippers and a dynamometer and I can close the 2.5 but I get 84 kg on the dynamometer.
