Simply turning off notifications and badges from social apps makes a world of a difference. I ended up ditching all social media easily after doing this. Very liberating
I've always wondered, what do people actually _DO_ when they engage with social media? 90% of the time I'm looking at my phone, I'm reading texts from my IRL friends (whether it's in Discord, on Instagram, Facebook Messenger, or just straight up SMS). The other 10% I'm browsing stuff on places like Reddit or watching a video on RUclips. When I see people talk about how they "hate social media" and they "hate the interactions" and they "feel like they need to unplug", I've often wondered what that actually means. Like, what are they getting away from? When people spend most of their time looking at their phones, are they NOT talking to their actual friends? Am I an edge-case? I subbed to YOUR channel based on THIS video. I have an iPhone 6S and a 13 Mini. The 6S has a SIM for 2FA; the Mini doesn't and is used just for its superior camera and as an extra-large iPod. Both of these phones lack social apps and email. The world wanted too much of me... Digital minimalism gives me some semblance of control that I hope is not a self-delusion. I look forward to following your story.
This was brilliant. One trend I’m noticing with younger Gen-Z kids who in the last few years have started entering the workforce with me is that they seem hyper-aware of the stress and anxiety social media usage causes in a way millennials my age and especially baby boomers most certainly aren’t, and the effect virtually never being disconnected has on the human psyche. Several of these kids that I work with have literally opted for “dumb phones” on prepaid plans. I honestly think we’re culturally on the verge of a massive moment away from mindless social media consumption and all the divisiveness that comes along with it, and hopefully a return to physically social clubs and fraternities like Rotary, Eagles, Mason’s etc.
I think so and I hope so! Thinking of getting a dumb phone right now. I’ve joined local clubs in my city and dance classes and it’s been so nice to connect with my communities that way instead.
Yeahh growing up with technology and having access to a computer since 7 and a phone since 11 you could always be contacted 24/7, and not responding to messages on social media makes you feel anxious and bad. I can't fully relax and focus on myself because I get whatsapp messages quite a lot during the day, and everytime i hear or see that notification I need to respond asap, because if i dont it stays on my mind and i feel bad. Doesnt matter if im watching something, playing videogames, cleaning or cooking. That left me frustrated about not being able to fully relax. Meanwhile older millenials and boomers didn't have to go through this, they already formed a routine and adopted ways they can relax BEFORE getting a phone or going on social media, so they don't care about responding as fast as possible, they can put themselves first easier. That's my opinion at least, not sure if there'd be a big change because not as many people as you think try to ditch social media, but i hope it would be
When I first watched this video, I hadn't looked at the sub count at all. Watching the video through, seeing and hearing the production quality and how much effort and planning went into it, with how well you presented everything, it all impressed me a TON! I expected this to be a channel with hundreds of thousands of subscribers. My jaw dropped when I saw it was just a mere 587. Make that 588, I look forward to seeing more! Amazing work!!
some other advice 1. block notifications from everything outside of messaging apps 2. do not install apps for a single use (or immediately uninstall afterwards) 3. limit your streaming service to one at the time, which you can rotate to save money, eliminate distractions, and actually watch cool and diverse stuff as you are not paralyzed by the choice 4. use do not disturb more often! Nothing bad will happen when you look at that email later. 5. take advantage of sleep schedule to eliminate distraction during bedtime (making your devices also look less appealing) 6. get into the habit of leaving your phone on the charger before you go to bed and leaving it there till your alarm goes off. Find something to do in bed before going to sleep that does not involve bright screens. Reading comes highly recommended (paper book or an ebook reader as it is not distracting as a tablet).
Nobody is mentioning it but the phone you are using has a feature called "focus modes". As the name implies, you can create focus modes for each activity (sleep, work, gaming, busy, driving, etc.) this will reduce the amount of phones you have to use and charge with all the benefits. P.S. u can also block notifications too.
yes! this is what i do, so i can allow different apps and different people in different contexts. i turn on the time limit for all my apps when i want to wind down and sleep too
This is a super unique idea, I like this a lot. I love the idea of a dumb phone, but smartphones are actually incredibly useful.... I have been working on something similar, using an iPhone 6S as my full time phone, and it has been really interesting to see just how few apps I actually needed. Keep up the great videos!
Earned you a new sub; I'm constantly trying to achieve "my ideal level" of digital minimalism and this video resonated with me a lot. Love the content, keep em coming, mate!
This is an amazing idea for old phones, tablets, and laptops to keep us productive and away from distractions. Love this! Hoping for the growth of your channel!
Fantastic video. Thank you for touching on the aspects of missing a partners call. I have been trying to strike a balance for years and appreciate hearing from someone who feels more relatable than large creators was inspiring!
literally got recommended this video the day after I got given an old iPhone. As a phone user I dont really want distractions. So the timing of this recommendation was PERFECT! subscribed :)
Se2 is perfect for minimalist, it’s relatively inexpensive, smaller lightweight, older design so it encourages to do the basics rather than stare at a beautiful display watching movies, not that you can’t or that the display is bad but it is like a lite version, and I love it! Best Beater phone ever
If you're ok with Android then you can get even cheaper and still have what you're looking for, but I know a lot of people can't escape using an Apple phone.
SEEING THIS VIDEO ON MY RECOMMENDATIONS MADE ME FEEL SO HAPPY AND EXCITED! I can't believe someone also did this because I also tried doing this last January during my school break and it was awesome, but instead of using my lite phone before I sleep, I used it full time. Because of this, I started exploring other hobbies like reading and taking photos instead of mindlessly scrolling on social media, and it made me feel good because I didn't feel like I was wasting my life away. People might think that detaching from social media is hard, but it's surprisingly not (out of sight, out of mind). For me, it only took like 2 days to get it out of my system. Though the difference I did with this video was that I transferred my sim card to my lite phone so that people could still contact me in case of emergency 😅 because it made me really anxious to not have any sort of contact with my loved ones if anything bad really happens.
You have serious potential. The structure and appeal of your ideas is akin to a RUclipsr with millions of subscribers. I strongly believe you'l go somewhere
I bought a Fossil Hybrid watch. This has been one of my favourite purchases of all time. The main thin is the notifications. I can turn off vibrate on my phone and put down my phone and instead my watch will only vibrate on specific apps. This adds an extra super useful layer for notifications. It has a timer, stopwatch, basic playback controls, fitness tracking, sleep tracking and a Find Phone feature (playing loud sound on it to find it) which has been insanely useful multiple times. Not to mention a two - three week battery life and half an hour to charge to full. Has just the stuff I need and isn't a fancy smartwatch and looks like a normal watch too. Highly recommend!
Salü Mate! I was seriously impressed by the quality and information you managed to put into this video, especially for such a small channel. please keep that up because if you do, this channel is going trough the roof on an entirely different level real soon. Greetings from Switzerland✌️
Your filmmaking abilities are astonishing, I myself am struggling with my phone usage, since last year I've come up with good ways to minimize my usage like turning on bedtime mode and keeping my notifications to a minimum, it did work, but not to the point where I want it to be, your point of just throwing the phone away is really good, but you must already have the phone distractions to a minimum to be able to stop and throw it away, if you're scrolling through ticktock for 2 hours straight, I don't think you'll be able to stop using the phone voluntarily.
I've carried two phones, and it is a PITA. Keeping up with one is a Herculean task for me, and a second one...forget about it. You can accomplish this with focus modes, controlling app notifications, placing daily time limits on social media apps, and setting up contacts that are important and can break thru the rules you set, like your wife (by the way, we have all missed the calls from the wife, no fun). While this method doesn't keep you disconnected, you are "litely" connected, maybe a better term is connected under control. Great video, I wish I could edit like you.
super well made video, really good narrative, great editing, cool looking shots that keep things interesting, literally everything is top notch! amazing stuff
I was one of Matt d'avella first few hundred thousand subscribers. Now i found you. Just leaving this comment i can comeback to when you're already big. Hahaha keep up the good content.
The video is great! And the concept is amazing, too! The only feedback that I can provide is that maybe I'd just turn down the music a bit, especially during A-Roll when you're talking, otherwise, great editing and very beautiful shots!
The thing is that I wouldn't use Social media that much if it wasn't for youtube shorts, in Vanced you could turn them off but theres no chance to do that in the normal app
Honestly, get an apple watch. It works even better. I turn off my main phone and keep my watch on. It still receives messages and at night only the people on my "emergency" list can get through. Every other notification is off. The watch works as an alarm and it's on me so it wakes me up very calmly. Get a watch, have your main phone off. I have mine connected to my carrier but it also works with WiFi so it's really great really. It's helped me out a ton with distractions.
Wow! I’ve recently updated from my iPhone 8, so probably I will copy your idea and turn it into a “phone for the exams month” :) Digital detox seems very important and I want to finally give it a try, but I didn’t now how until your video ended up on my fyp.
Bro I just unlocked the next big yt channel. It is an utter disgrace that only few thousand of us have been recommended this channel. RUclips do your thing.
really inspiring video. i used to be stuck to my phone a lot of the time but put provisions in place so i could focus more on general life. i always hated notifications and just had them turned off by default, and most of my social media is set so i don't follow anyone or is especially limited so i don't find myself doomscrolling for hours on end. i've gotten much better with my phone usage and at times i forget that it's there, even with small changes like that, but that's just me. i know a lot of people who get glued to their screens and engulfed into this culture, but i can emphasise with them as no one wants to be told that they need to get off their phones or be forcefully set time limits because it's patronising, and a phone can be extremely useful in certain circumstances. this idea is a great compromise, and splitting the basics away from the fun/work stuff really gives you that time to breathe and get some control back over your life, whilst still retaining full functionality. a use i have seen that is similar to this is with work phones, primarily used by people who run their own business, whether big or small. once that phone is off then the shop is shut. you could probably slim down the phone usage even more in terms of music, like getting an old ipod or something. the newer touch versions still let you access your streaming services as well as your music library, and could be a great entertainment device alternative. as for messages, it's sucks that you couldn't get them working properly, but say in the instance that you could, maybe set the important contacts as ones with notifs or something similar, so if anything does happen to them that's a real emergency then you still can get in touch. whilst it may not be ideal for some to get two different phones for the cost of it all (unless you got one of the really old iphones/samsung etc. which are practically next to outdated), this is a really good start and i commend you for the effort and getting us to think about how we can transform our addction into something more manageable and useful.
This was such a good quality video, you definitely deserve more. I have experienced something similar and was expecting a good ending for you at least but guess that's too hard to get now!
Normally I don't write comments here on RUclips. But I can say that I was almost shocked when I paused the Video and see that you only have 197 Subscribers. The Video is really professional, well edited and has a very interesting topic! Would be nice to see more Videos from you :) One little Hint: I was watching the Video on a Laptop and for me the Background-Music was just a little bit too loud. Nothing that makes me Stop the Video but just something I noticed :) Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing :)
Like other commenters said, I expected this channel to have 330k subscribers, not 330! 15 minutes is way too long FOR ME, but the production quality is really high, good job!
Hey, thanks for creating such a good video. I like how you showed the process, both pros and cons and your conclusion in a way that was narratively interesting. I also had this issue a few months ago, and what I found helped immensely was deleting the social media apps off my phone and only accessing them from the browser. The browser version is usually good enough to respond to messages but clunky enough to discourage me from mindlessly scrolling. I keep one messaging app on my phone for family and close friends who may need to contact me, and even at that, I keep most group chats muted. I've heard of people adopting "pull" methods, where all notifications are disabled and they decide when they want to open apps. Maybe you could disable notifications for some social media to keep you from getting sucked into those. (I'm on android but I assume iOS can also disable notifications on a per-app basis) Once again thanks for the video, hope your new changes have improved your lifestyle!
if anyone sees this and is interested in another option. if you have and iphone, instead of having a second one, if you have an apple watch with cellular. you can pretty much use it anywhere as long as your phone is turned on at home in a drawer or something. I just keep my iphone on at home charging behind my bed. I bought an apple watch ultra for the reason it has the best battery life. but it totally detaches me from social media simply because its not a phone. i can recieve all calls and texts whenever i need, and never even have the option of social media, another benefit, it can be an alarm(my favorite part is that if you have a partner you dont want to wake up, you can use a silent alarm) and it can be your wallet.
I use a button phone (some people call it a dumb phone, but I refuse to call it so). It stays with me all the time, and all the social media and messaging apps stays in my laptop. In every social gathering or events, people are constantly on the phone but I get to be present in the moment and not get distracted all the time. By using that phone, I realized that no one really calls me in that phone, so whenever I get one, I know it's important (if not emergency). Also, whenever I use a smartphone, I immediately get sucked into social media, so not having one is great for me. Btw, the quality of your video is so good, only when writing the comment I found out you only have 248 subs!
I think its a huge American thing and British. When I went to University, I remember making some friends, mostly younger than me considering I went to school at an older age than whats typical in America. I remember just being so let down with the social dynamic being so much different and everyone being on their phones all the time. I always felt embarrassed going out to eat with classmates and everyone just being on their phone and Im just sitting there in silence. Ive lived in Iraq Lebanon, and Spain with visiting friends in Syria and Israel and making some of the best friends in Spain. One difference between my friends there and general American people is in fact the phone and social media in my opinion. Where one instance its considered more utilitarian and considered rude when overly used in public social setting where in America its considered more entertainment and joy and acceptable, at least with the crowd my age or younger. although i do think the social connectedness and all is more of an illusion. As an Arabic woman its also culturally in appropriate to have instagram and seeking validation through particular means that cause a huge distraction and what I consider a degrading. I remember kinda being upset and wishing my American classmates saw how much more fun and more sociable my Arabic or Spanish friends are, it was hard being an Arabic immigrant girl in American University but luckily now I have made alot of quality friends Arabic and American at my church, and such topics on social media have been discussed in our Bible group alot.
My brother lost his phone and had to get an emergency iPhone SE a few months ago and then gave it to me once he got a new phone and now I use it the same way, I have only cosy apps and games on it so I can chill out at night while my main phone is charging, and I use it as my alarm clock as well. It's nifty to have one.
I changed my setup a lot of times before, but now I using the Focus feature os iOS. I have setup 1 screen per focus, with a small selection of widgets and apps. It's working great, it's just like I have 1 phone for each activity. I would like to have more options on MacOS too, like change wallpaper and dock icons
Thank you for idea. I have an old iPhone 8 still working really well (except battery), laying around in my drawer, and this gave me ideas how to make use of it. And limits of old OS and apps helped me to make it a useful accessory for home use, not a doom scrolling machine. I watched few videos around the youtube but not a single one inspired me like yours did. So thank you, love the video ❤

Bro has hired Netflix production team to make a video seriously the video quality is so good even i felt bad after looking at your subscription number you really deserve millions.
I started using a “lite phone” with an old phone too! This became the phone I carried around the house. I catch myself picking up the old phone and wanting to go on social media or something I didn’t need. The app won’t be there and I’ll put the phone back down 😆 Setting daily limits on social media apps on my regular phones also helps. Glad things turned up okay with your wife! Also, love the behind the scenes at the end 😂
You have mastered video creation. You got a subscriber. I initially felt like "The Channel with Millions Subscribes" but currently there are 6.75K Subscriber Only. Keep growing.
damn. these situations, like the one with your wife and your phone being off, are the things i'm always thinking about when considering "plugging out" for the night. i really love how you landed on a middle ground solution and honestly it's great love the ending 😂
I did the following: 1. Uninstalled all social media apps and distracting ones 2. Disabled all notifications on all apps except for calls and Whatsapp (no group chats!) 3. Set up app timers for RUclips and music apps. 4. Set up bedtime mode from 21.00 to 07.00. 5. Turned grey scale screen on 6. Used my watch to check time 7. Used my smartwatch for quick replies and not get sucked into other apps 8. Left the phone out of the bedroom 9. Used an alarm clock on my smartwatch 10. Turned off internet when I work during the day and turned it back on in the evening after work 11. Turned off ALL! sound notifications.
I did this with my old 16GB iPhone 6 that still functions well after a battery replacment. I basically only use it for music like an iPod touch, app like Tide, and ebook app. Perfect to bring to the bathroom lmao
alternatively, set your main phone up like your lite phone with maybe a bit extra, and then use your old phone as an entertainment phone, with apps like tiktok and so on only being installed on the entertainment phone
You know, a lot of what you did here could be achieved by simply setting up a Focus mode on your primary phone. You wouldn't have to worry about the calls & texts not coming through either
Production quality is awesome compared to the size of the channel. Great job. Keep it up. However, one criticism I will give is that your voice is being suppressed way too much over the music, and increasing the volume makes the music louder as well, so it kinda becomes unintelligible.
Super appreciate the honest constructive feedback! Another comment pointed this out too so I’ll be paying close attention to the audio mix for next video for sure lol
There's actually a very easy way you can do this same thing but with one phone Use apple's focus modes It can disable apps and change notifications settings and all that just by switching between focus modes (Previously do not disturb xD) I believe the best way of doing this is using the quick switch wallpaper thing ios 16 has and linking one to a custom focus mode which you will then set the disabled apps and notifications Edit: alright db i understand why you used a separate device instead of using something like focus modes XD
Was sitting here the whole time wondering why you didn’t just use do not disturb or the focus feature to the point to where I checked how old the video was wondering if it didn’t even exist back then. I’m glad you eventually figured out the easy fix to your problem.
Love this! At the beginning I was thinking of doing the same but I have anxiety about the emergency stuff. Glad I watched the whole thing because I'm currently cleaning up my phone to dumb it down but still use just one phone. Thank you!

the excuse for needing to fall asleep by watching some stupid show or video is greater issue then the one you are using meditations for , investing in a better sleep schedule should be a higher priority than meditating .
then your next mistake is to keep relying on a process that doesn't work , if the call forwarding is not working then get another sim for the dumb phone , and give that number to the people who are close and worth picking up the calls for .

I think so and I hope so! Thinking of getting a dumb phone right now. I’ve joined local clubs in my city and dance classes and it’s been so nice to connect with my communities that way instead.
Lol if that were true we would never know about TikTok. They even brought Snapchat back
Yeahh growing up with technology and having access to a computer since 7 and a phone since 11 you could always be contacted 24/7, and not responding to messages on social media makes you feel anxious and bad. That's my opinion at least, not sure if there'd be a big change because not as many people as you think try to ditch social media, but i hope it would be
no more masons please
I,m 13 i deleted all apps just RUclips and Whatsapp Google Maps and google Translate
thats it.
Amazing work!!
the content quality is just too good this channel is gonna grow fast
loved the vid
same thought
Its only 1080p,what are you talking about
It’s not about the resolution, but about the composition and flow of the video
@@lukefromafar realy?i am so stupid ,i didn't knew he meant that,
*youmissedthejokeidiot*
Oh sorry i thought you were a 13 yr old boy
I watched this whole video fully convinced that my positive comment would be drowned among others. I expected at LEAST 100k views on this
some other advice
1. block notifications from everything outside of messaging apps
2. do not install apps for a single use (or immediately uninstall afterwards)
3. limit your streaming service to one at the time, which you can rotate to save money, eliminate distractions, and actually watch cool and diverse stuff as you are not paralyzed by the choice
4. use do not disturb more often! Nothing bad will happen when you look at that email later.
5. take advantage of sleep schedule to eliminate distraction during bedtime (making your devices also look less appealing)
6. get into the habit of leaving your phone on the charger before you go to bed and leaving it there till your alarm goes off. Find something to do in bed before going to sleep that does not involve bright screens. Reading comes highly recommended (paper book or an ebook reader as it is not distracting as a tablet).
thanks i really needed to see this
Nobody is mentioning it but the phone you are using has a feature called "focus modes". As the name implies, you can create focus modes for each activity (sleep, work, gaming, busy, driving, etc.) this will reduce the amount of phones you have to use and charge with all the benefits.
P.S. u can also block notifications too.
Exactly
Great idea.
yes! this is what i do, so i can allow different apps and different people in different contexts. i turn on the time limit for all my apps when i want to wind down and sleep too
Bro talked from his heart and i loved it
This is a super unique idea, I like this a lot. I love the idea of a dumb phone, but smartphones are actually incredibly useful.... I have been working on something similar, using an iPhone 6S as my full time phone, and it has been really interesting to see just how few apps I actually needed. Keep up the great videos!
Oh yeah this guy lol and me who always comment on his videos
Man discovers the concept of a work phone.
Man discovers dumbphones
Earned you a new sub; I'm constantly trying to achieve "my ideal level" of digital minimalism and this video resonated with me a lot. Love the content, keep em coming, mate!
This is an amazing idea for old phones, tablets, and laptops to keep us productive and away from distractions. Love this! Hoping for the growth of your channel!
Fantastic video. Thank you for touching on the aspects of missing a partners call. I have been trying to strike a balance for years and appreciate hearing from someone who feels more relatable than large creators was inspiring!
The “WAKE THE FUCK UPPPPPPP” alarm is so valid
XD yeah
literally got recommended this video the day after I got given an old iPhone.
The algorithm blessed you with recommendations. Good luck and keep the grind up
Was not expecting the storytelling at the end. To me, the anxiety is missing a phone call if a relative is harmed.
You have serious potential. The structure and appeal of your ideas is akin to a RUclipsr with millions of subscribers. I strongly believe you'l go somewhere
This was so well made. Didn't even realise it was 15 minutes
I thought I was wathing someone with more than a million subs. Your content is mindblowing.
Nice video, great production quality. I was surprised when I saw you only had 210 subscribers. You should and will have a lot more soon!
it’s weird seeing such immaculate content that clearly took time on a small channel
Salü Mate!
I was seriously impressed by the quality and information you managed to put into this video, especially for such a small channel. please keep that up because if you do, this channel is going trough the roof on an entirely different level real soon.
Greetings from Switzerland✌️
0:22 he’s going hard with the background footage of himself tucked in his bed, is an extra step nobody would think of, good work buddy, subscribed
3:48 "WAKE TF UPPPPPPPP" Can relate
I've carried two phones, and it is a PITA. Keeping up with one is a Herculean task for me, and a second one...forget about it. You can accomplish this with focus modes, controlling app notifications, placing daily time limits on social media apps, and setting up contacts that are important and can break thru the rules you set, like your wife (by the way, we have all missed the calls from the wife, no fun). While this method doesn't keep you disconnected, you are "litely" connected, maybe a better term is connected under control. Great video, I wish I could edit like you.
Holy shit! This video's production quality and effort is insane!! And that too from a small youtuber, Hats off man!!!
super well made video, really good narrative, great editing, cool looking shots that keep things interesting, literally everything is top notch! amazing stuff
You’re voice is really addictive. I don’t know why you haven’t blown up yet, but again the algorithm is working!
I would expect this great video to be on a bigger channel. Great Job!
Hey man, the algorithm brought us here for a reason. Amazing stuff. Here's to your RUclips success!
I was one of Matt d'avella first few hundred thousand subscribers. Now i found you. Just leaving this comment i can comeback to when you're already big. Hahaha keep up the good content.
Just 2000 subs? Man you’re severely underrated. I subed
The video is great! And the concept is amazing, too!
The only feedback that I can provide is that maybe I'd just turn down the music a bit, especially during A-Roll when you're talking, otherwise, great editing and very beautiful shots!
That’s super good to know, audio mixing is the bane of my existence lol thanks so much for the honest feedback!
@@davecaya for me it kinda worked as artistic choice for the first 2 min but now its getting really tiring
Focus mode my man I love it and I turn off a lot of my notifications. Obviously not the ones I need for working. Good vid my man.
Wow!
I’ve recently updated from my iPhone 8, so probably I will copy your idea and turn it into a “phone for the exams month” :)
Digital detox seems very important and I want to finally give it a try, but I didn’t now how until your video ended up on my fyp.
Saw this video in my recommended, lost it, remembered and found it. Great video m8!
This suprised me on this achievement for you!! I witness a channel from couple subscribers to many more in the future 😊

@JokeJunction_haha shut your reddit sounding ass up, ever heard of constructive criticism?
Man the quality of this one was amazing!
Like other commenters said, I expected this channel to have 330k subscribers, not 330! 15 minutes is way too long FOR ME, but the production quality is really high, good job!
Him after the recording of this video : Lemme just redownload the apps real quick.
You could schedule your Do not disturb focus mode to start every evening. Very useful.
And lose the ability to dual wield phones. Nah 😂
having grown up in the 70s it's refreshing to see what's old is new again 🙌
And since it's brand new, the battery last a while so I don't have to worry about charging it.
Disney+ and RUclips for sleep - Big COPE

Hey dude, this was awesome to see. I think this was the push I needed to install Graphene on my Pixel 7 and use it as a secondary no-BS backup. I think disconnection and privacy can go hand-in-hand here.
How does this channel only have 7k subs?! This video's quality seems like it should be from a multi million subscriber channel.
Just use 1 smartphone and 1 "dumb"phone as a lite phone simple
Bro has hired Netflix production team to make a video seriously the video quality is so good even i felt bad after looking at your subscription number you really deserve millions.
I started using a “lite phone” with an old phone too! This became the phone I carried around the house. I catch myself picking up the old phone and wanting to go on social media or something I didn’t need. The app won’t be there and I’ll put the phone back down 😆
Setting daily limits on social media apps on my regular phones also helps.
Glad things turned up okay with your wife!

damn. these situations, like the one with your wife and your phone being off, are the things i'm always thinking about when considering "plugging out" for the night. i really love how you landed on a middle ground solution and honestly it's great
love the ending 😂
I did the following:
1. Uninstalled all social media apps and distracting ones
2. Disabled all notifications on all apps except for calls and Whatsapp (no group chats!)
3. Set up app timers for RUclips and music apps.
4. Set up bedtime mode from 21.00 to 07.00.
5. Turned grey scale screen on
6. Used my watch to check time
7. Used my smartwatch for quick replies and not get sucked into other apps
8. Left the phone out of the bedroom
9. Used an alarm clock on my smartwatch
10. Turned off internet when I work during the day and turned it back on in the evening after work
11. Turned off ALL! sound notifications.
thank you
I did this with my old 16GB iPhone 6 that still functions well after a battery replacment. I basically only use it for music like an iPod touch, app like Tide, and ebook app. Perfect to bring to the bathroom lmao
This is nice xd
I love the ending 😂 "DiD i jUsT gEt tHaT oN tHe fIrSt TrY?!"
alternatively, set your main phone up like your lite phone with maybe a bit extra, and then use your old phone as an entertainment phone, with apps like tiktok and so on only being installed on the entertainment phone
so this lite phone filled with heavy apps?
bro you deserve much more. loved your video.
You know, a lot of what you did here could be achieved by simply setting up a Focus mode on your primary phone. You wouldn't have to worry about the calls & texts not coming through either
Man please don’t stop this type of content ❤🙏🏼
Production quality is awesome compared to the size of the channel. Great job. Keep it up. However, one criticism I will give is that your voice is being suppressed way too much over the music, and increasing the volume makes the music louder as well, so it kinda becomes unintelligible.
Super appreciate the honest constructive feedback! Another comment pointed this out too so I’ll be paying close attention to the audio mix for next video for sure lol
I did the same thing with my old 5s until focus modes came out. Now, with my focus mode, I have a different home screen
There's actually a very easy way you can do this same thing but with one phone
Use apple's focus modes
It can disable apps and change notifications settings and all that just by switching between focus modes (Previously do not disturb xD)
I believe the best way of doing this is using the quick switch wallpaper thing ios 16 has and linking one to a custom focus mode which you will then set the disabled apps and notifications
Edit: alright db i understand why you used a separate device instead of using something like focus modes XD
Was sitting here the whole time wondering why you didn’t just use do not disturb or the focus feature to the point to where I checked how old the video was wondering if it didn’t even exist back then. I’m glad you eventually figured out the easy fix to your problem.
This was very interesting and shows what slaves we have become to our devices, and how hard it is to restrict their ability to interact with us.
Love this! At the beginning I was thinking of doing the same but I have anxiety about the emergency stuff. Glad I watched the whole thing because I'm currently cleaning up my phone to dumb it down but still use just one phone. Thank you!
Great video! IOS has a built in grayscale filter which works great for reducing the dopamine when you check your phone
Only 131 subs? This video is great man!
Me finding out I have 131 subscribers from this comment 🥹
You could get a HomePod and enable intercom. My wife has contacted me that way when i don’t answer. 👍🏼
That’s also a really good idea, thanks for the suggestion!
