Good Evening Dan, I'm so glad you have review this tent. My friend and I have the 3ful gear lanshan 1 2021 and it is exactly the same apart from the nightcat print. To answer your question I belive the groundsheet would be higher than the Hydrostatic head on the flysheet as its under pressure from your body weight. Also I feel it needs longer pegs to make it more stable. Bit overall I'm happy with it. Cheers

  • @shabingly
    @shabingly 2 года назад +6

Aye, it's a rebranded 3ful gear Lanshan 1 (if you look on their website, the picture for it is one branded 3ful).
Dimensions they quote for the interior are the same as 3ful quote for updated 2021 bigger Lanshan 1. However, 3ful quote a bathtub floor HH of 6000mm.
Same as for the non-pro lanshans, the fly seams are taped (Pu coating on the underside of the inner), but the guy-outs on the fly panels aren't taped so if you want 100% heavy rain protection, seal them. Do it from the outside, and you can use bog standard bathroom seam sealant from a DIY store.
    /Edit
Also, the bathtub ain't the most durable so if yer a wildcamper pitching on gravel or some random surface (and not a filthy site camper like me), get a bit of polycryo window film from Wickes to whack under it.

First off, the UK has an average annual rainfall of 885mm. So, put a 1000mm tall glass outside and by the end of the year it wont be full. Hydrostatic head can be measured, but the explanations of what that means are very much marketing if you google. The test is for the column weight the fabric can hold before it leaks, and the time frame to judge that within is 24 hours. So, saying 8000hh means if you had a square tube 8 meters long, upright, with the bottom sealed off with the fabric, you could fill that 8 meter tube with water, and in 24 hours, no water would leak out the bottom through that fabric. THEN The marketers get involved and say you can be in heavy rains and you wont get wet until 8000 mm water falls on you .... which is not at all related to the test or meaning of the test result. Once again, in an entire year you will see in the UK an average of 885mm so their 8000hh means you should wait for ~10 years of water to fall on the tent, retaining all that water in a column, before the tent leaks ... like I said: Marketing.

Dan Dont put your self down, your a clever man you know loads about stuff I have no idea about. Im starting to see the advantages of a tent like this less weight for one thing no need for tent poles so smaller pack and you will mostly always have a walking pole with you. I wasnt sure about them to start with but thanks to your reviews I may just be turning to like them.

That cat is back! At least it's black on this one though. I always find these trekking pole tent weights need to be taken with a pinch of salt, as unless you use the poles to trek there, essentially they should be added to the tent weight for a true idea of the load.
On the bright side, if you can't sleep one night, could always count cats instead of sheep 🤣

I think that every 1000 HH stands for a column of water a meter high. So 8000HH means the fabric can withstand the pressure of an 8mtr column of water before leaking. Columns of water that high are not really feasable so they use a machine to simulate the pressures and unless you had use of one it be very hard to test!

Took mine out last night for its first use. I found it was critical to get the mesh door wall vertical and tighht up and then the mesh inner is tight and its much easier to get dressed in. Its just big enough for me 5'10" to sit inside using a Sea to Summit Air chai. I'm to old to sit without any sort of chair. I did bend one of the pegs even with my foot so have ordered some DD superlight Tarp pegs. How about a review of the best backpacking pegs and why.

Dan, did you get a chance to look at the Featherstone UL Granite 2 person tent? Me and my 8 year old son have tested this tent in a Texas thunderstorm with 2 inches of rain in 4 hours and it stayed dry, zero water inside the tent. There was water between the bottom of the tent and the ground sheet, but no water came through the bottom. We camped last weekend on the edge of a lake and this tent was bullet proof! It took the very high winds (over 30 mph) constant and heavy gust of about 50 mph. I believe if you check this tent out, it will be one of the top tents you go to. I bought a second one after seeing what this tent can handle. I spent many hours looking at different tents before I bought one. It is a small 2 person tent, but at 5 pounds with the poles, stakes, rain fly and ground sheet it is light compared to other tents. I have looked online for reviews of this tent and have found nothing, this is a hidden gem. For the price on Amazon for $139.00 and it includes the stakes, ground sheet, rain fly and tent is a steal. I am going to buy a third tent for backup because I am so confident with this tent. Money well spent.

4 points Dan. 1- It’s a rebranded 3F UL Lanshan 1 plus if you don’t want the daft cat logo on the side. 2 - The HH you quote could be possible but 3F have it listed at 6,000. 3- Condensation, there’s no more condensation generated in a single skin tent than there is in double skinned tent. 4 - your walking pole wants to be 125cm min so you don’t get a saggy inner.

Hydrostatic head means the pressure at the base of a column of water, so with regards to material it would be a column of water 8000mm or 8m placed on top without it seeping through the weave. There are special testing machines for replicating that. The material itself will either be a combination of a very dense weave of non absorbant material with certain water repelling chemicals(like wax) to make it hydrophobic.

i am a person that says each person is different and has different needs ,for a full review its got to have been tested from one extreme to another so ,rain , wind ,snow ,cold etc ..i think the tent looks great and it looks like if the facts are correct what they say about the hydrostatic head ,then it could be a competitor with others that are similar ,it looks like it would definitely be great for long hikes , not convinced yet what to take when i start my vlogs when i start again in the next week or so on my new you tube channel i got a few tents from your favourite brand and oscar outdoors favouite brand ..great video btw great to hear honesty , hate people who lie ,, thanks ..

I wouldn't buy it purely because of the size of the logo 😮

    It’s definitely a 3F UL Lanshan 1

It’s nice that it is already seamed sealed! Saves some time. I have the Lanshan 2 and used it on a 8 day trek on the O circuit in Torres del Paine national park. For the price it did a incredible job protecting me from the Patagonia wind and rain. Thanks for the review!

      How did that happen?

@@englishwoodsman probably a very warm da y with no cloud warming up the ground followed by a cold cloudless night.
Tarp traps in warm air underneath it being heated by the ground radiating, air above the tarp is cold because no cloud cover trapping radiated heat. All condensation is, warmer air with some water vapour in it hitting a surface at the dew point.
