The new, four-part documentary on the Hip indicates that the band members had increasingly less input on the songs written during this period (2006-2009). Gord Downie had decided to work closely with legendary Canadian pop/rock producer, Bob Rock (I know, his surname suggests his career was predestined!). In the documentary, the surviving band members talk about how frustrated and disheartened they became, even starting to feel like session musicians, like they were only being asked to visit Rock's studio (where Downey had been staying for months) to lay down tracks basically already decided by Downey and Rock. That's what's so amazing about this new documentary, directed by Downie's brother, Mike, who had years and years worth of informally captured video to introduce through the film. Anyway, yes, definitely sounds different. Ironic how this happier, poppier tune was actually masking the band members' worst time together, professionally.
I LOVE TRAGICALLY HIP!! VERY POPPY! THE AWESOME DRUMS 🥁 VERY DIFFERENT STILL LOVE IT!! THANK YOU RORY 💙 AND THANK YOU MARK FOR THIS AWESOME REQUEST!! I LOVE GORD DOWNIE RIP MY MAN. 😊💓🔥🤘✌️KEEP ON ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD EVERYONE 🌎
This album is different from the rest but even track to track very different from each other. Still some great songs on it ... The Drop Off, Luv (sic), The Kid's Don't Get It, The Lonely End Of The Rink. 😊
This was the Bob Rock produced "era" where they purposely tried to have a bit more commercial sounding songs, which I believe worked, and got them back in the Canadian charts. Great request.

The kids don't get it, and the lonely end of the rink are great songs from that album.
TKDGI is the best on the album, maybe only Family Band comes close
Me and my girlfriend did long distance for 2 years (2500 miles apart) and this is her favorite song from the hip.
The last free association verse seems like Gord. Everything else seems like something someone made him sing
I love this whole album. As a Queen fan, you’ll like the title track.

Coincidentally, Gord died on 10/17/17...11years to the day
Not sure why, but it reminded me of Alright by Supergrass
Max Webster "Battlescar"
The only Hip song I ever aggressively disliked
