  • Here’s a neat little way to add a little to your typical chironomid fly combining an old school thorax style with some modern materials. Use your favourite bead colours and body materials and twist a few up this way to be able to show fish a little something different when needed! Thanks for watching and tightlines!

That's a great looking chironomid! Thanks for sharing. Just wanted to pass along a tip for strengthening the peacock herl at the thorax. I like to tie it in and then twist the herl tightly around the thread and then wrap the thread herl combo before tying off. Or you can just twist the two pieces of herl with hackle pliers or a dubbing loop spinner. Both methods seem to improve the strength of the herl and keep them from unraveling after a few fish, but using the thread is definitely the stronger of the two. You can also lay some superglue down before wrapping if you really want to get crazy with it. Anyway, thanks again for the content and you certainly have gained a new sub.

Can this be tied on a scud hook? What other hooks can you tie this in? Thanks for putting out great flies
