    Every single one of my Gecko's, crested, leopard, even my false chameleon, drinks from a bowl. I still mist every day. But, they definitely all drink from their water bowls. I put a bowl of water in all my enclosures. Just my personal preference.

      In my personal opinion, people who do not allow their animals to have constant access to food/water as the animals please, is neglecting their animal.

    I'm fairly new to the Dave Kaufman channel. It's clear to me that Dave knows his stuff. What I really appreciate is that he's letting her talk and explain her point of view. He asked questions , and she answers them. This was a very well done interview. Some interviewers are only there to show how much they know on a topic. That's not the case here. Thank you, Dave.

    I enjoyed the variations. Her geckos are beautiful. However, I am lucky enough to have a husband capable of building large, bioactive enclosures. An animal is never going to get the exercise it needs in a tub. We adopted/saved a blue tongue skink being kept in a large plastic bin. She now has a beautiful, naturalistic enclosure, as do our geckos. Her demeanor changed night and day. No thank you to bins.

      100%, I understand that it’s sometimes necessary for breeders but this shouldn’t be the ideal, ESPECIALLY for semi arboreal reptiles. In my country keeping them like this is actually heavily discouraged.

      @triciawharton9178 3 года назад

      Completely agree! I can tell she loves her cresties and the enrichment is great, BUT there is no absolutely no space. Especially for an arboreal animal. They need height and room. Makes me very sad to see them in bins.

    I love that Emily says the emphasis is enrichment for and care of the animals. Before I started watching your videos I had never heard of keeping your pets in racks. 3 yrs on I realise that my old view of pet keeping was more about what I wanted. i.e. Beautiful enclosure with something amazing to look at and there is nothing wrong with that. However the animals needs must come first si if the bin is better for the animal that should be what we do. Rattleon

    • @toff1568
      @toff1568 3 года назад +11

      It’s in no way, shape or form better for the animal. How would keeping it in a tiny box without a proper day and light cycle be better for it? This is all for convenience for the breeder and definitely not the ideal of keeping them.

    Crested Geckos are by far my favorite lizard. Mine have never had a tail lost. I think if you keep them together they will hop on each other and have a higher chance of losing their tails, so I keep each one in one of those vertical cages. I give them crested gecko food, crickets, and water. I also pick them up frequently and they’re super chill. They like to fall asleep on my stomach because it’s like a heat rock, and they also like to chill on my shoulder. They’re absolutely adorable with their eyelashes, their smile, and of course their crests. They don’t get too big either. I would recommend them to anyone who can just do the research and keep them correctly, which isn’t hard. Spray em 3 times a day and yeah give ‘em a water dish. I give them a ledge with 2 different bowls for food and water. Highly recommended.

    The number one thing I had, and seen, cause death with crested geckos, is dehydration and overheating.
    The can die quite fast if they are too warm without hydration within a week.
    I will never keep them without a water bowl.
    All of my cresteds when breeding would drink from a water bowl.
    And yes, nightly misting.

  • @mikaylabecerra1765
    @mikaylabecerra1765 Год назад

    I would say in most cases crested geckos don’t soak in water specifically cause they don’t absorb water the same way and it’s actually a BAD idea to bath them unless they’re dehydrated because it can make them sick.. I have a water dish in my crested gecko tank too and if they need to soak I’m sure they will but just for new owners know baths are NOT the move! Unless you have like a bearded dragon or something because lizards do definitely gain hydration for the skin and the beardies can’t have humidity in their tank so having water bowls can be a bad idea for them because they’re desert lizards but crested geckos are tropical and already get all that water on their skin too much is a bad idea

    Can't say I'm a fan of the racking at all, that is not the correct way to keep animals, especially crested geckos which have been documented to utilise light radiation to their benefit. A dark tub is not going to ever provide this and by her own admission in the introduction it's for her ease which is quite selfish. I myself gave my crested gecko a 3ft high and 2ft wide enclosure with full spectrum lighting and it used every part of that tank. As a side note, there is a definite correlation between geckos kept in (small) tubs and geckos that have lost their tails. I imagine its due to the stress of confinement. Actually quite disheartened that someone with an audience as big as yours is encouraging this low level of husbandry.

    • @toff1568

    Personally i would put both of the last two females shown on a diet they are pretty chunky and that could cause unfertility as well. Its not healthy for them breedingwise a bit more than average is good, but not to much.

    These are some really awesome cresties, I feel like cresties get far too much exposure though. I'd like to see more variety in the future, virtually every reptile channel except NERD has a back catalog of crestie content and it's just not very exciting or creative.

    I wish you did not speak over everyone when they are sharing their info or insight. Not in a rude way it just always seems they can’t get a word in.

    Train them to drink from bowl. If they don’t eat, starve them to the point they have to eat.
