My tokay is very inactive. Is this common for a wild-caught adult? stays in the same spot all day and I went all out and got it a very large enclosure and lots of branches for it to choose from. It ate 4 horn worms and a few super worms a week ago and has not eaten since. All the videos just seem so active. I live in Florida and the whole reason I kept it was that I know they have the potential to become invasive so I figured it was a win-win to take it out of the wild and give it a good life.
Unfortunately, it is not normal. Tokays are in fact active, but this applies to most reptiles: lethargy and lack of appetite are signs of ailments. The ailment in question is not specific, as these are the over-arching symptoms of a lot of issues - from parasites to internal issues to even overall age decline - but it is a sign of an issue. You can opt to take your animal to the vet, but sometimes there isn't much for you to do. Wild caught animals usually contain lots of parasites, and they also stress far easier due to lack of human exposure and interaction, and when an animal gets stressed, their immune system declines, and the parasites take over. Antibiotics can help this, but again, this is just one possibility. Try to stay away for wild caught, recuperating wild caught animals' health is tough. Best of luck to you, I hope your little guy recovers.
@@geckolove10 thanks for the info. I feel bad I just want to give it the best life. I’ve only had it a few weeks maybe it will get more comfortable. If it doesn’t change in the next few weeks would it survive being released?

In my opinion, the best thing you can do is keep an eye on it, make sure the enclosure parameters are right, and continue to monitor the animal and take the best course of action based on your intuition. If you have any other pet reptiles be sure to separate them in case this is some sort of contagious ailment, and be sure to wash your hands when handling the tokay or working in the enclosure. In the mean time, just do what's best for the animal and give it the best life you can.

Tbh I think the market is so focused on the lily whites that I think you are open to most other options. But that’s just my novice opinion
