    great review! do these have enough camber underfoot to work well in the park? and how would they handle touring? also im still waiting on those ski vlogs, they would be so fun to watch and would give stowe and the surrounding areas a better reputation.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  4 года назад +2

      In my opinion, yeah. It's not a super snappy, poppy park ski like a narrower, cambered ski, but I'd be perfectly happy skiing it in the park. I think touring is a good application too. Light enough for the ascent and really versatile for the descent.

    Thanks so much! I've been skiing the Deacon (188) as a front side ski and love it but want a ski to really master double blacks that is easy and forgiving but still fun. I'm 6ft and 172. Do you think that the revolt at 180 is a good choice? If not, any suggestions?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +1

      Hi! I replied to your other comment too on the comparison article. I do think the Revolt 104 would work well for that, specifically if you're looking for something that's a twin tip. I brought up the Ripstick 106 as another option too, and I think that would be an excellent choice if you didn't need a twin tip. For length, yes, 180 cm should work great for your size as you start to master new terrain.

  • @das05
    @das05 4 года назад +3

    How would these do in powder? I'm looking for a ski that can handle rails and jumps relatively well, and go right from the park into some powder. I was considering this ski and the black crow atris, Would you recommend the revolt 104?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  4 года назад +3

      In my opinion, it's pretty perfect for that application. The rocker profile gives it more float than most skis in this width range. Really fun in the park too. In my opinion, the Revolt 104 would be a little better in the park and as a "all-mountain" ski, but the Atris is the superior powder ski between the two.

    Was looking to get a all mountain ski for mostly resort skiing, with some side/backcountry mixed in.
    Currently considering the Bent Chetler 100, Revolt 104, Sir Francis Bacon 107s to be mounted with a shift binding. I'm an intermediate to advanced skier who does 65/35 off-piste/on-piste and enjoy trees. Which ski would you recommend if I currently ride a K2 Pinnacle 95 at 177cm length?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +3

      If you're keeping the Pinnacle and looking for a wider option, I'd take the BC 100 out. The Bacon is a rounder-turning ski than the Revolt, and likes to be swished around and surfed and smeared in soft snow. The Revolt 104 has more versatility to it, so it'll be better for the resort days and still a highly viable ski for backcountry use. If you're ditching the Pinnacle and are looking for one ski, the BC 100 should be brought back into the conversation, with the Bacon taken out. In that light, between the 100 and 104, the 100 has a stronger resort application while the Revolt is the floatier and smearier choice--especially in the deep stuff. I think the BC100 is one of the best tree skis I've ever been on, for what it's worth.

    With you saying it's a stiffer ski, what's it's ability like to Butter? I've been more on the hard charging side of things, but wanting a ski that's more on the playful all mountain side (learning to Butter, ride switch, etc) without sacrificing decent stability.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 года назад +2

      It's certainly not too stiff to butter, in fact, it butters really, really well. It's a good choice for what you're going to be doing. The shape makes it pretty forgiving for learning stuff like that as it's not going to feel catchy thanks to the rocker/taper combination.

    Great review , how would you compare bentchetler 100 to these skis, they look similar, but is revlot 104 like "more " of the ski, could you push it harder than bents 100 on ,say, hard pack , steeps etc, Thanks!!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  4 года назад +2

      Yeah, in my opinion the Revolt is "more" ski. You can ski it harder and faster than the BC 100 and it stays composed. The BC 100 feels lighter on your feet, and softer flexing. More energetic too, but less stable and less surfy.

  • @nicholash8021
    @nicholash8021 2 года назад +1

    Does this compare to the Faction 2.0 or 3.0 at all? They seem very similar but I hear the factions can be a "lot of work" on some choppy groomers to the point where you can't relax after a long day. Been skiing for 4 decades and I'm 6 feet and over 200 muscular build so I think I need a stiffer/wider ski to compensate for my weight. Trying to decide between these and either the 2.0 or 3.0. and I have enough experience to switch ski on a gs downhill ski and even spin on them freely. So I'm thinking if I can do that, this will be cake on a twin tip.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +3

      Hey Nicholas! Probably the biggest difference between these and the Candides is the level of stability. The Revolt does feel a little stronger than both of those skis, so in theory will be more supportive for your size and/or aggressive skiing. Super fun skiing switch, really good float, just a blast as an all-mountain/freeride ski. I'd say go for the Revolt if you haven't already made your decision.

    Hey guys, love all the videos!
    I'm a 5'11 170lb intermediate skier in the PNW skiing mt hood as my main mountain. I'm used to about 80% on piste and 20% off piste and currently ski some atomic vantage 90 ti's. I'm looking to get more off piste time in and am looking at these, the Justis, the camox, and the ripstick 96's. I mostly want a ski that will perform well enough to do groomers all day and is stable at speed but will also be a great entry into powder skiing. Any tips on which of these 4 skis to go for? Thanks so much!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 года назад +2

      Hey Austin! Those are all great skis, but I'm leaning towards either the Justis or the Revolt 104. I think you'll appreciate the width, rocker profile, and overall float of those skis. They're a little better in deeper snow than the other two, and since this is kind of your off-piste ski, I think that makes sense. Revolt will feel a little more playful, and definitely has a little more freestyle influence in its design. Justis feels a little stronger overall with the metal in its construction, but still is super surfy in soft snow. Can't really go wrong with either one.
      We're going to have a full review of the Justis up in just a couple days!

  • @neiljones8010

    A great review as always, thank you. How would you say this ski compares to the Nordica Enforcer 104?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  4 года назад +1

      Hey Neil! The Revolt doesn't have any metal, so it doesn't have quite the power of vibration damping as the Enforcer 104. That said, it feels lighter, and it uses more rocker, so it has more of a surfy, playful feel. I'd be fine on the Revolt 104 in the park, where the Enforcer 104 feels a little heavy. So, that's the big difference in my opinion. Enforcer 104 - more stable, more powerful. Revolt 104 - more playful, surfier soft snow feel.

    So I bought a pair of bentchetler 100s at the beginning of this season in a 180cm- I’m 6’2 and weight 146pounds so I’m tall but light and felt that the 180 would just be much more fun and maneuverable and I was right- but now I’m considering selling the bentchetlers and buying a pair of these revolts in a. 188 Because they’re more center mounted and ski shorter than the bentchetler which I have mounted more like a all mountain ski- should I stick with my bentchetlers or try out a pair of revolts and sell my BC’s and should I go with a 180 or a 188 in the 104 if I ended up switching??? Are the 104s more fun? I have a pair of 4frnt EHP in a 186 already for powder- so powder performance is irrelevant for me

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 года назад +1

      If you can demo a Revolt 104, that would probably be best... A 188 cm Revolt 104 would definitely feel a lot different than your 180 Bent Chetlers... Hard to say the 104 is more fun than the BC, they're just different. Much longer rocker in the Revolt, which makes it ski a little shorter and also makes it more maneuverable in deep snow. Gives it more float too. I know you said powder performance is irrelevant, but it would feel weird to leave that out discussing the differences between the two.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +1

      More of a freeride feel in the Revolt--a softer tail and more dramatic taper make it wiggle around in the powder quite efficiently. The Atris has more of a directional personality and prefers to go faster and with more intent. The Revolt is all about fun while the Atris has more of a business-like feel to it.

      The Revolt 95 is basically the same, just new topsheet graphics. So, I'd say keep yours unless it's time for them to be replaced! I love the idea of a Revolt 95, 104, 121 quiver, I'd be pretty darn happy with that personally.

      If you pause the video at a certain time where you see the new dalbello il moro on jesters with new colors on revolt 104... yes please.
      I have a lot of skies (I blame you guys for this) , and I'm really looking forward to test the revolt 104 vs my current favorite ranger 102 fr and the other 95-106mm twintips. I'm as you a mid 30s but I still like to do butters, some jumps, some park, and carve. I have the k2 poacher, armada arv 96, ranger 102 FR bent chetler 100 faction CT 1.0 2.0 3.0 and probably forgot a few... yeah so I like skis.

    Hey Jeff, how do these stand up against the ARV 106? I am expecting my ARVs in the mail any day now after our previous exchange, but I am curious about the other skis with similar profiles.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 года назад +2

      They're a little different. I'd say the ARV 106 feels softer overall and is a little more compliant. The Revolt is really interesting. I think some skiers will love it, but it's a pretty unique ski. Stiff and stable, but really long rocker and lots of early taper too. For your specific application, the ARV is definitely better for teaching and demonstrating. The Revolt 104 loves speed, loves to slash and smear turns, and is super fun to ski, but it's not as well rounded if that makes sense.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 года назад +2

      On another note, I personally am really happy we have so many choices in the mid-100/freeride/all-mountain/twin tip category now. They're all a little different too, which is great.

    Hey, so I'm a good piste skier and have got a pair of piste skis that I like a lot, but I've wanted to get into the more playful / park / off piste side of skiing. Until now I've done that on my Heads and have done fine but thought it was finally time to get another pair. I'm looking for a ski that would do well on piste but could do better for freestyle / off piste than what I currently have. I've come across the revolt 104s, the k2 poachers and the Bent Chetler 100s. I'm open to new recommendations as well. Hope it's not too much of a bother (I'm 180 cm if it's any help)

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 года назад +2

      All 3 of those skis could work great for what you're looking for. The Revolt is going to be the best in soft snow. It has the most float and easiest edge release. Bent Chetlers are the most playful and most energetic out of those 3, and still really fun in deep snow. Poachers are designed a little more for park than the other 2, but would still work well around the rest of the mountain too. So, in other words, you can't really go wrong with any of them, just a matter of how much soft snow performance you want and stuff like that. Hope that helps!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 года назад +1

      The Revolt 104 is more stable than you might expect just looking at its shape. I think you're referring to me, and I'm just under 180 cm in height and about 150-160 in weight. I ski the 180 and love it. I don't think the difference in size between you and I is enough to justify the 188. 180 feels like the way to go in my opinion.

    What would your recommendation be on a good touring binding for this ski?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 года назад +1

      If you can swing it, the new Duke PT from Marker would be pretty ideal. It's a strong binding that I would trust in the park, dropping cliffs, etc, but it also goes uphill well. The Shift (Salomon, Atomic, Armada) is a little lighter and a little less expensive. Not quite as burly, but it could certainly work too.

      You can ski it pretty darn fast and aggressively. That's something that always impresses me about this ski. Despite its width and rocker profile, it stays quite composed at higher speeds. It's on the wide end of the spectrum for moguls, but definitely will work. Really good mix of performance for everything you're looking to do. It's a blast in soft snow, can carve, and will let you play around in the park.

I feel like 172 is a little bit short for charging the whole mountain and specially powder. Thanks in advance!

    • @SkiEssentials

      Definitely a toss up. How much do you weigh? I'm leaning towards 180 since you already have a shorter park ski. With the rocker profile of the 104, 180 shouldn't be too hard to ski and will give you more stability when charging. Obviously 172 would be more playful and more maneuverable, but I get the impression that's not the focus for this pair within your quiver?

      Even though there's not a huge difference in width, I do find the Revolt 104 feels more versatile. Every time I get on the Atris, it feels more like a powder ski to me. A powder ski that can do other stuff, sure, but still a powder ski at heart. The Revolt feels more like a wide all-mountain ski to me. Quicker edge to edge, etc. They're similar in the sense that they're both surfy, smeary, super fun skis, I guess I just get a little hung up on the width.

      The Revolt is stiffer than both those skis, most notably in the forebody of the ski and underfoot. That gives is a more stable feel at speed. What's interesting, is it also uses longer rocker than both of those skis, which gives it a fairly unique personality. More stable, but because of the rocker and early taper, you can still butter, smear, skid, etc with ease. It's pretty cool. Great ski for someone who wants some freestyle/freeski performance, but still like to ski fast from time to time.

      Great, in my opinion. Normally I don't like going quite this wide for a park ski, but I wouldn't have any trouble on the Revolt 104 in the park. I'd say the 180 is the way to go. Lot of rocker here, so a shorter effective edge. I feel the 172 would feel too short.

    Hey guys I am 6’2 and a more intermediate/advance skier just wondering if I should go with the 188 or the 180 i am leading more towards the 188 but would love to see what you guys think thanks.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад

      Hey Kyle! Yeah, at your size, I would probably go 188. The rocker profile of the Revolt 104 is so long in both the tip and tail that it's quite manageable in longer lengths. Then you'll also benefit from increased float and overall stability.

      Pretty different skis. The Revolt 104 lets you slash and smear turns at will, the Blade wants to rip carves more than anything else, and has a much smaller turn radius.

      Bacons feel a little softer to me. There's actually less rocker in the Bacon too, and less taper. Shorter turn radius too. The Revolt feels a little surfier, if that makes sense.

    How do they compare to Fischer 102 fr as a daily driver?

    • @SkiEssentials

      The Rangers have more torsional stiffness and more precision. Better edge grip and more stability overall. The Revolts, on the other hand, feel more playful. They also feel more surfy and float a little better in soft snow, but they're not nearly as precise as the Ranger thanks to a much longer rocker profile and more "basic" construction.

      Hey Oliver! I (Jeff) am about 5'10" and skied the 180 cm. Harrison, who's also in this video, is a little taller, about 6'0" even. Even though they have a lot of rocker, I've found they ski pretty true to size, no need to upsize or downsize. They're relatively stiff, so they're still supportive and stable at speed despite the long rocker profile.

    • @SkiEssentials

      Both are great. I had a lot of fun testing both this past season. The Revolt is stiffer, but has way more rocker. The Reckoner is a lot softer flexing, but still holds an edge well because of how they use carbon. So, kind of which you prefer. I do think most skiers will find the Reckoner more playful, but I think you could make the argument that the Revolt 104 is more versatile. It's a really interesting comparison and I think one that a lot of skiers will be curious about this season.

      The Revolt 104 has much more rocker, and it also feels a little more stable at speed. The Bent Chetler 100 is super playful, very energetic, etc. They obviously are both designed as freeride/freestyle ski, but there are some pretty big differences in how they feel. More camber in the BC 100, feels a little lighter too, I'd say.

    • @SkiEssentials

      Sure, it's just a bit heavier. Also, skins don't work as well on twin tips as they do other more touring-oriented skis like the Volkl Blaze 106 which has a flatter tail and a skin notch.

    Revolt vs the Blaze 106?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  4 года назад +3

      Quite a bit different actually. Rocker profile is similar between the two, but the Blaze feels a lot lighter and has a different taper shape. Blaze flexes into different turn shapes more easily too, the Revolt 104 is stiffer, which I assume some people wouldn't expect. Of course there's the twin tip difference too. I suppose you can achieve similar turn shapes/styles on them, but the feel is different.

    How would you compare this ski to the Fischer FR 102 ?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 года назад +1

      The Ranger 102 is lighter and a little more responsive. The flex pattern feels a little more energetic too. The Revolt has really long rocker, which gives it a smeary, drifty feel, but it also has some heft to it, relatively stable at speed. They're bot really playful, really versatile skis, but they do feel different.

I am going to do quite a lot of touring wit either of these skis but also gonna have quite many inbound days with harder conditions. So these two skis are the ones I am most interested of but can't really decide between them. :D I'm 179cm tall and revolts come in 180 and rangers 177 or 184. Since you mention firm snow, I'm kind of leaning towards Ranger, but the Revolt isn't necessarily bad on firm snow by any means, just isn't quite as precise or responsive. 177 cm Ranger would work well for your size, or 180 in the Revolt if you decide to go that route.
