    It actually looks like a paraglider! =D
    So I look the panels from the Single Skin software and printed them onto coloured paper to make it easier to identify the position of each panel.
    Then cut it all along the line and taped it and stapled it together.
    The shape didn't turn out as expected and I'm not sure where the error is. In the program, the material, the assembly, etc.
    It still looks really cool and I might try to put some lines on it to see what it would look like.

    Cool video Andre!
    The ribs are the airfoil reference, so cutouts are not meant to add flexibility in that sense as it will deform airfoil as you pointed out. However, paper is rigid and ripstop nylon is quite flexible. Under load the ripstop cells will "balloon" which will effectively shorten their width spanwise, especially the top skin. Sail tension and ballooning are parameters usually taken into consideration by the softwares when making templates to give you accurate final shape once under load. I believe that material rigidity is accountable for the exaggerated arc of your paper prototype.

      I think that sounds very likely to be the reason why the 3d model and the paper model looked different, I'll investigate!

    I've been looking forward to this video! Thanks for all you do. We need to see you drop that parachute you made in calmer air. It was hard to know if the oscillations were from the wind or the design.

      Yeah we keep taking it to the beach and then forgetting about it on our bags. I'll drop it from the paraglider next time

    Maybe the reds or oranges need to be more narrow to cut down on width which causes it to be come a long round circle. Cut 2 reds in half width and some on the oranges and see what happens it may become more tighter pulling on top . A normal kite has large to smaller cells. Good video Andre

    Didnt You just flipped the ribs. At 3:25 I see the tail of the rib pointing to TE of the cells.

    I dont use this software ( I use my own made one ) but i think the over arched curve could depend on the skin tension parameter ( billow ) ...you should place it to 0% ( flat panels ) in order to have coincinde on the shape since your paper panels are nearly flat...just the quick explanation that I am able to give to the issue

    Hi, can you tell me, why gliders does not have some kind of stiffener in leading edge? Some carbon or dural sticks or whatever... Its only
    lay question. I think the leading edge will be more robust against the collapses...

    • @AndreBandarra1

      it's only a paper glider to check the shape so not really needed

    Way to power through Andre!! Great work. Do you think it would be better to make with fabric material? May be easier to sew, and also more flexible. With the curvature in the leading edge, and the single skin, will it actually fly? Again, with the fabric, once the lines are attached it could be flown like a kite possibly. Keep up the amazing work and keep the videos coming.

    • @AndreBandarra1
      @AndreBandarra1  5 лет назад

      Yeah I've thought about that but will need to get paraglider cloth from somewhere and maybe even more important the right thread to sew it with.

    • @Arno_mtz

      Ripstop nylon of 60g/sqm is available from aliexpress for very cheap. I use it for my kites. It can be as cheap as 2euro per linear meter (1.5wide). It would probably be fine for a paraglider too but considering the effort to sew one I'd advise to go for something better, not necessarily skytex although the 40g is not too expensive. Quality spinnaker works well, I've built my first glider from it, 42g/sqm. As for thread, I recommend ticket number 40/3 polyester. Niviuk uses serafil 60/3 on the skin, but I've got good results with 40 (lower number thicker thread). Bonded polyester thread is good too, used for outdoor stuff and somewhat more uv resistant. Cheers and good luck with the experiments!

      @AndreBandarra1  5 лет назад

      @@Arno_mtz Sounds like you have experience is exactly where I need to go next! Do you mind sharing links/details as I'm really not sure what to look for. Also I think I would rather go for more delicate/thinner material and thread because I only have a old household sewing machine at the moment and I don't think it will take thick thread and material

    • @Arno_mtz
      @Arno_mtz 5 лет назад

      Hi Andre, don't worry about ripstop and a household machine. I've been using a singer tradition for most of my stuff and it's intended for curtains and recreational use really. Any Ripstop is thinner than most curtain or garment fabric, it won't be any concern. 40/3 Thread however is a bit heavy on my machine at times, but it is really overkill anyway, it's more to sew risers and Kevlar line loops. Look for 150d/3, polyester thread, it should work with any machine and plenty strong. Ripstop from emmakites on aliexpress has decent reputation in kitemaking and will cost around 5euro per meter. I haven't used it, I go even cheaper and buy 10m of single color from whatever supplier is on sale. It's not the best coating for sure and it's heavy as far as ripstop goes, but I've punished my kites on Asphalt a fair bit without any failures. If you make a paraglider you actually intend to fly under, Skytex40g can be bought for 8euro per linear meter at metropolisdrachen.

    Check '' Laboratori d' Envol '' website. (English, Catalan, French...) where several open designs (GNU license), lot of thinking matter about designing paragliders, very interesting for understanding all aspects (few about sewing technics..). Excellent for first down scaled models.

    I grabbed SingleSkin and in a 5 minute "learn by the seat of your pants" session, trying to replicate the dimensions of BCD Seed GH wing: www.flybgd.com/en/paragliders/seed--paragliders-2021-992-0.html
    I haven't attempted to actually print anything out, or put it together yet, but it's a fun project for sure. Thanks to Arnaud for providing material/thread specs. What would you guys use for riser material?
    Andre, any follow up on this project yet? Probably too nice out for real flying, and not stuck inside witching away on projects like this. Keep high my friend!!!
