What Was The Last Movie Released on VHS?

  • There is an entire generation of folks who were brought up on the VHS tape. Many of us grew up in the age of the VCR, and it was common practice for families to make a weekly sojourn to video rental places like Blockbuster, to pick out movies to watch over the weekend. I grew up in that era, and I recall it very vividly.
Before I got my hands on my first DVD player, my whole world was VHS. I loved to buy new movies (which, in the mid 80s, were not cheap). I recall buying the first Star Wars movie, brand new on VHS. I paid about $30.00 for it. For a 15 year old kid in the 80s, that was a small fortune! I also frequently bought blank tapes, and would be ecstatic to record cool stuff off of my TV.
You may have wondered, what was the very last major motion picture to ever be released on VHS? We take a close look at that in this video. There is one movie in particular that is often regarded as being the last on VHS (and because of that, it has become quite the collector's item). But there were also many other films from the last days of VHS. I take a look at a sampling of those in this video.
I find it interesting because recently, it seems there has been a resurgence in places that rent VHS tapes. Maybe this is just a short lived hipster trend. Who knows. But I have seen several videos on RUclips talking about someone in Milwaukee or Phoenix starting a video rental store in their basement or in a barn in their backyard. I guess there are many folks out there who are still very nostalgic about this time, like me.
As I mention in the video, I do not buy VHS tapes all that often. But now and then I will stumble upon a used tape of a very obscure film that I must own. Often these are movies that have still never been released digitally. I love finding these rare treasures!
Do you still collect VHS tapes? Do you have a favorite? Do you still own and use a VCR? What type do you have? Or do you think that VHS was horrible and should have died and gone away years ago? What is the most you have ever paid for a VHS tape? Feel free to leave a comment!

I have 3 Sony (top of the line) betamax's and 3 SVHS (top of the line) JVC's too. I keep them in working condition because I have hundards of tapes with live recording of space launchs and missions on them.
