‘Taken over by Brussels’: Irish politicians ‘don’t care’ what the people think

  • Author Michael Walsh says Ireland has “lost” its sovereignty and has been “taken over by Brussels” as Irish politicians cite European Union laws over Irish sovereignty.
The Constitution of Ireland recognises that EU law is superior to all national law and is the only body which can pass laws regarding competition rules in the single market, monetary policy in the Eurozone, and international trade agreements, among others.
“As I used to joke … during the Australian lockdown, once a penal colony, always a penal colony; and Ireland, once a slave state of the British, always a slave state,” Mr Walsh told Sky News Australia.
“In this case, we substituted 700 years of slavery under England, for a few years, a few decades of freedom, and then rushed back into the embrace of new slavers - they live in Belgium.
“Who had Ireland gets taken over by Brussels on their bingo card?
“Irish politicians now are wholly employed by the European Union, so they don’t care what the Irish people think - they answer … to the EU and Belgium and they are constantly citing EU laws over Irish sovereignty.”

Last year the Irish government brought in a law to make it harder for Russians to stay here on a short stay visa scheme. This was all to make The Ukraine happy. But if Irish people in a little village object to a building next door to their house being turned into a refugee centre overnight for hundreds of males from Africa or the middle East, the media runs a story on them being 'far right'.
I've heard more on the Irish news about a 'hero' Brazilian who helped stop the attacker than about how the victims are doing. An Irish man was the first to tackle the Algerian, then a French teenager stepped in and then the Brazilian came along. The Brazilian is the only one the media are reporting on as part of their 'immigrants are heroes' propaganda ploy. Someone set up a GoFundMe for him that has received over €360,000. There was a GoFundMe set up for the children that were attacked too but theirs got over €100,000 less than the Brazilians one. I've seen more comments on Twitter about how 'traumatised' this man is than I've seen anyone show concern for the child victims. It's insane.

He was refused entry to a few countries because of sexual assaults on women for which he served time in prison.

We still await full details to emerge but could the Dublin attack have been a domestic matter rather than terrorism?
This doesn't absolve the immigrant as stabbing children appears to come easy to him, regardless of motivation m

I live in Croatia. It is the same here. Hundreds of years of slavery and when You finally got Your freedom, You don't know what to do with it and rush to give it away. What is the most interesting is that any voice against that is shut by Your fellow citizens, even before Your government and politicians. Next big thing in that shameful EU is lobbying for some kind of federalisation, where smaller countries like Ireland, Croatia and sutch will actually lose their vote in the way that they plan to abolish the rule of unanimity, so that bigger countries like Germany and France could enforce their interests way easier. They had some kind of voting on that proposition in the EU parliament and guess what, half of our representatives (left opposition) voted for that proposition. The other half (right position) fail to do so, but just until they think about how to do it while presenting it as a benefit to our country. That political caste is the same in every EU country. They are all living in some parallel universe, completely cut off their people and their needs as if they are ashamed of us and We are just a nuisance to them. Left, right, red, black or green it doesn't mean anything. They are on one side and the people are on the other. The EU makes this only easier, as You can always blame them for any unpopular acts or measures You take. You just say that these are EU laws and if We don't obey that, We will lose money from EU funds, etc. And the one thing that is especially annoying is that constant fear mongering with the "far right" and sutch. Just today our prime minister told us that the farmers protesting against slothering of their pigs because of the pig plague are in fact far right extremists. That comes from a leader of Christian Democratic party.

Part of the beauty of visiting a country is seeing and talking to native people. Without seeing or hearing the natives; it’s not a unique experience or place. There’s no doubt that affects the quality of the experience for anyone visiting the country. But there’s also no doubt it affects the natives themselves, their culture and their sense of belonging in their own homeland. If every country was exactly the same in terms of its people across the world, then why would anyone bother visiting and why would nature have made us all so different in specific parts of the world. We wouldn’t expect to go to Africa and find cities with predominantly white/chinese/white Asian people walking around, but we are going into Europe and finding cities of predominantly Africans and Arabs walking around, and in Ireland they actually call themselves Irish as if that means native, if that’s not ethnic cleansing then I don’t know what is. There’s nothing wrong with a small minority coming and going, but not this mass migration leading to ethnic cleansing of natives. That’s wrong and unfair. We don’t accept the movement of plants and animals into areas that is not native to them in order to protect the native species, the same concern should apply to humans.

What ever happened to Irish manliness? Definitely not a characteristic of Irish politicians. My grandfather and great-grandfather were from Ireland and they would be polite, but tell you what they thought in all bluntness. It was considered being an Irish man and stating it like it was. No beating around the bush or looking for excuses. It was part of being a man to say what you thought and not backing down. Of course, you listened to the other side, but only if it made a bit of sense. I hope that there are still a few really men and women in Ireland as the future does not look too bright.

The change will come in Ireland ,and in the other Western ,so called "democracies" when the economy collapses world wide. This will happen as surely as the Great Depression happened.
Right now the general population is satiated. But when that ends Ireland ,and Europe and America, will awaken .An empty pocket is a great eye opener and a jolt to the system.
Mr.Walsh makes some valid points and I agree with his views regarding our present situation and predicament, but I do NOT agree with his pronouncement concerning the Irish people when he says "once a penal colony, always a penal colony." I would strongly advise Mr Walsh not to go to my native County of Cork ,"The Rebel County " and broadcast this statement!!He will be asked to head back to Clare ,which is better known for music than rebellion!
Rebellion lives on in Ireland ,it just needs to be awoken. After all ,a constant state of being awake would leave one in a very dissipated state.
The world is now on the verge of a 1930s type of trauma.I have to believe our Christian nations , including Ireland, can withstand the coming cataclysms.

If there is more free stuff in The Republic than in the UK, maybe some of our " Channel Sailors" are coming across on the ferries.

'We declare the right of the people of Ireland to the ownership of Ireland, and to the unfettered control of Irish destinies, to be sovereign and indefeasible. The long usurpation of that right by a foreign people and government has not extinguished the right, nor can it ever be extinguished except by the destruction of the Irish people. In every generation the Irish people have asserted their right to national freedom and sovereignty'... 'We ordain that the elected Representatives of the Irish people alone have power to make laws binding on the people of Ireland, and that the Irish Parliament is the only Parliament to which that people will give its allegiance: We solemnly declare foreign government in Ireland to be an invasion of our national right which we will never tolerate'
