It amazes me even til this day how even in the 1980s these systems seem so complex. I must say with you around Kent, these cars are here to stay. Thanks for showing and sharing these new solutions.
Thank you for all this. I recently acquired a r107 with very low miles. After the second day my heater worked only when hot outside. Also my Becker radio stopped working. I decided to remove radio and have it repaired. After glove box removal to access back of radio, I saw the pieces of the foam hose that is suppose to connect to the temperature sensor. I just ordered the wire loom.
On my '97 Crown Vic, that hose was routed in the opposite direction of the fan and pinched between the firewall and the dash. Fixing that fixed the heat. Based on that, that hose was the first place I looked due to poor temperature control on the '83 W126 300SD. In the 300SD, the rotten foam was at the blower end. I fixed it with wire loom tubing just as you showed. It worked fine until the mono valve didn't. I have the Klima valve in hand, waiting for better weather.
Great timing with this video, Kent! I was pulling some codes with the blinking code reader on my W124 300D (which has the newer style pump you showed), and I got a code that said I had an open circuit or a short on my auxiliary pump. I'll try to apply battery voltage to see if it is working.
You’re a legend matey, when I learn how to use this bloody thing I’m getting my card out cobba luv what you do and I luv my old mercs, they are just wonderful
Could you do a video/comment on the importance of the "temperature control module" and the "fan control module" (silver and black modules) behind the glovebox? On one of my 85 300Ds, the fan will blow very fast in rapid cooling or heating as it adjusts to the thermostat setting. My other 85 300D, the fan will not blow nearly as fast in the same settings. I have replaced the fan resister in the engine compartment, but no joy in trying to get the fan to blow faster. I'm hesitant to switch parts because the car with the fast fan blowing has a perfect functioning system!
@6:37 this motor damaged. Got a OEM new one. My Climate Control isn’t working anymore. Blower doesn’t start when pushing the buttons (450sl 1980), only defrost is working. Where should I start?
The climate control in your 450SL is totally different and quite complex. You will need to start by learning all you can about the early automatic climate control system. Googling the system for issues will bring you all kinds of good info. Dead climate control servo and vacuum leaks are some of the biggest issues!

I installed the small wire loom from blower hose to sensor hose and heater comes on perfect and so does the a/c. I’m grateful for this

On Ya Kent!
You are an ever reliable source for trix and fix.
What would we do without you.....

Does the Klma kit work even if you don’t have AC, just the standard dials for hotter and colder? Thanks for this useful video.
The Klima kit will only work on those models with ACCIII automatic climate control using the Bosch monovalve system.
@@Mercedessource Thanks. I don’t have any AC but I’m sure I have a monovalve that lets the heat through or blocks it. Shame I can’t use this new part.
what's the best way to drain the gallon of coolant? That little red plastic plug (87 R107) on the bottom/side of the radiator?
Yes. Remove the coolant reservoir cap so it will drain more smoothly into your container.
