Wonderful video explained in a non-sientific way! I am a soil ecologist and this is great - the time taken to explain to people. As you said, there is many varieties of super soils and your mix is a great one. However there is ways to alter it and use more sustainable ingredients (this is no critique at all!). Just a few words to add as some might be interested: in nature, soil development ist triggered to a great deal by acidification (natural soil that is), the pH value is the negative decadal logarithm of active H+ in the soil solution (water between the pores). What does that mean? pH of 1 means a pH concentration of 0,01 mol/l - a pH of 6 means a concentration of 0,000001 H+ mol/l - This means: the higher the pH value (getting into the alcaline range - the fewer active H+ ions are in there. Calcite and Dolomite (Calcite with Magnesium naturally worked in its chemical structure, however harder to break down in soil development processes act to balance acidic soils and regulate it to a pH which is suitable for nutrient uptake (pH too low: bad, pH too high, also bad, depending on the plants and crops you are growing (they all have certain ranges of pH tolerance)). With organic super soils, like you said, it is a good advise to judge the health of your plants by taking care of them, having a look at them and see if there is certain traits of malnutrition or pH problems. Also with organic growing, the EC value has not to be measured precisely . Some plants will use more nutrients from the super soil or more specific micronutrients, whereas some other plants will use others. Either way, in a balanced super soil (like yours!) all components needed have to be balanced, broken down to some extent, ans slowly but steadily available if needed. GREAT VIDEO!

I'm a second year veggie gardener and last year I made all my beds using Mel's Mix and started out believing his words that it had all the nutrients and nothing needed to be added :-p So you can imagine on the whole I didn't have a lot of success lol! I have done a lot of research to know what nutrients need to be added to what plants. I do like your idea of adding everything together before adding to containers, etc. I now have a couple things I am interested in incorporating into my soil. thanks for the detailed info!
35:59 Your talking about the higher pH in city water.....so one thing being limited on funds at this time is filling up water jugs( not milk jugs) with city water, poking holes in in the caps and letting them sit to dissapate the tap but I completely forgot about the pH..... I think I came across information stating that the city of Phoenix AZ has high alkininity in the water so just as a temporary fix couldn't I add some lime juice from a lime to lower it? This might sound like a silly question but I am a beginner and I do wish to learn..... I've been studying these videos hardcore to teach myself ...your input is greatly appreciated....thanks for the video

I use headphones due to wife watching TV. When you point your camera away from you and towards what you're filming, it's almost like you're covering one of the mics for the camera. Many might not know it because they're not on headphones. Anyway, it's quite noticeable and muted and seems to be more in the right ear. Anyway, just trying to help. Really enjoyed the video.
