I find it funny that Great Hammers deal more stagger damage than a Colossal weapon/sword in this patch, on top of being slightly faster than them. Even easier with Cragblade. Even without Cragblade, you stagger stuff easy now. Glad that charged attacks got some love in this game by staggering stuff and rewards you with proper aggression and knowledge of the bosses and its move set.
Hammer type weapons in general (fists, hammers and great hammers) do more stagger than sword types but they do less damage. They also typically have less range
Yeah, being encouraged to be aggressive to keep a enemy's stance break bar going is very satisfying and rewarding, and makes me love the stance break mechanic. At first I never bothered with charged attacks against bosses because I thought it was too risky with little reward. Throwing knives are also very useful because it prevents their stance break bar from going down when you don't have an opportunity to go in for an attack.
I go through them like nothing to😂 I use godskin peelers with frost bite and I use maleikths black blade melts the elden beating and I have killed Malenia first try 4 times in a roll
I've never used the great mace but I might have to make a new character to try it out after seeing this video. Love the poise break and stagger potential.
The Great Mace is one of my main weapons and when I saw the recent buffs from patch 1.07 this is exactly what I had in mind! Absolute poise melting machine!
It feels really satisfying to use as well, even against normal enemies or in closed spaces it doesn't feel too slow or bounces off every wall. One of my favorite weapons now :)
Cragblade is really awesome and the duration buff is very welcome. In my last playthrough, I powerstanced 2 great Stars, since you can get 2 per playthrough now. I put Cragblade on both of them and let me tell you Strength can be so much more busted than any spells
I had done that with the golem halberds, and tbh it didn’t seem good, but maybe they buffed it. It was back in the beginning of the game. It was more effective to run left hand warcry and right hand quickstep

@@Jordien at +25 the brick hammer gets an S scaling in strength which is super neat but yeah you do have to defeat Margit in order to obtain, whereas great mace you don't need to. It's so simplistic that I like to pair it with the Knights armour set, which also got buffed to be viable in PvE. @@Jordien It should be a spell, even. I'm still a bit annoyed that all of the best gravity magic options are ashes of war (except Collapsing Stars). The meteorite staff should have scaled to Str and Int, especially if it was always planned to be unupgradeable.
With cragblade you deal 20% extra poise damage, but if you stack it with the stonebarb cracked crystal tear, you can bump it up to 56%. Im not sure what the best attack for poise dps is, but the bedt weapon class is for sure the greathammers.
Dual greathammers are among the best duals you could use, all the poise damage of 2 heavy weapons, and they're quick enough to do 2 L1s against malenia. With 80 FTH i had 2 great stars with prelate slam and golden land, a blast of a playthrough
For dual jump attacks you definitely do get bonus stance break damage, but it's very stamina heavy and you don't get much of an increase to poise damage when doing regular dual wield attack. So 2-handing a weapon is generally more ideal for stance breaks. Dual great stars with prelate's charge is insanely fun though for the huge amount of lifesteal.
Are all great hammers equal in stance breaking power, and you went with this because you can get it early on and it has high damage? Because I'm pretty sure stance break power doesn't differ for weapons in each category unless it has some unique trait like the wing of astel that shoots beams which seems to give you extra poise damage.
A build i'd love to try star mace with cold affinity and this Ash of war along with the crimson and cerulean talismans (since you easily break stance you can easily heal up even in boss fights)

I'd argue executioners greataxe, I'm sure it has less poise damage than most blunt great weapons, but it has higher crit than all of them so you'll get more out of each stance break
Use stone barb cracked tear for a 30 percent poise damage boost, and I found this out after getting the rotten battlehammer, so I’m glad someone with influence put this unconventional build out there
How would the Godskin Peeler with Cragblade fare in terms of stance breaking? It's 2H charged R2s and running R2s hit three times, and are pretty damn quick. I can imagine a Cragblade buffed Peeler, dodging and punishing with a couple running R2s should poise break effectively.
My first character used colossal swords for most of the playthrough, but swapped to Giant Crusher with cragblade near the end. Maybe it is time to take that character to NG+...
Did you know that giant crusher actually has lower poise damage on its charged heavies than the rest of the colossals? I think to account for the fact that it covers so much ground. I'm sure it's still rlly good tho, that weapon is badass
I just finished a great mace playthrough and wasn’t impressed. It was worse than greatsword in every way except weight. Hopefully the 1.7 tweaks made a difference but colossal weapons were buffed too.
The colossal weapons somehow have less poise damage on charged r2s, from 36 on colossal axes, 26 on giant crusher and crozier (???) and 48 on colossal hammers like Troll hammer and Greathorn. Only the great club beats great hammers with 52.6 cr2, but can't be buffed.
