  • Today's adventure took us to La Veta - Southern Colorado's Best Kept Secret! (September 11, 2022)
Near the eastern entrance of La Veta Pass, Fort Francisco was built in 1862, and La Veta formed around this when connected to rail in 1876. Today the area is known for it's beautiful scenery and art culture.
My family and I are on a mission to learn about the history and geography of where we live by visiting every town within a 4 hour drive of our house. We live in Pueblo West and once per month we are going to venture out and explore the great state of Colorado, one town at a time!
La Veta is part of the PUEBLO METRO AREA:

La Veta is a little town but looks nice. Thank you again from Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico.
I hope to visit some of the towns and cities you describe so well, in Colorado, with my wife, one day.
Good luck and God bless you and the members of your family!

Grew up in CO and my family History is tied to CO's start. These are great videos and I love that you cover some of these smaller Front range towns.

The smaller town's lack of coverage is a huge reason I started this channel. Thanks for watching!

The Spanish Peaks were the first mountains I ever laid eyes on (except in pictures) during a family car camping trip in 1968. We spotted them on a crystal clear day just after topping out on Raton Pass headed to Walsenburg to pick up 160. For a flatlander from the southeast it was awe inspiring. Been back many years since and the thrill is the same. Usually take 12 when I'm leaving Colorado headed back home to the southeast. Thanks for all the background on this area of Colorado. Planning to head out in September this year.

Keep driving the Scenic Byway Highway that leads you into La Veta.. Once you pass La Veta, your auto will continue to climb upward to the town of Cuchera at 8100 feet. It is a summer town, and even in May you will probably see snow on the ground. The mountains and ranches are spectacular and open space is bar to none!

I really think you’re adventure to the Spanish peaks area would’ve be complete with a 15 min drive to gorgeous Cuchara. There’s also Cordova pass with stunning scenery and the ski area.

We are visiting Cuchara by itself in 2024. In the meantime, Cordova Pass is mentioned in our Aguilar video.

Heh...I did a double take when you reversed the video when talking about the churches since one of the cars on the road was going backwards. :) Nice vid as always...I use this to help me and my family explore the area (we moved into Beulah last year).

I was hoping no one would notice that lol glad to be of assistance with your exploring. I love Beulah and have been there dozens of times. We'll be visiting as Ski Lodge this April.

If you think La Veta is southern Colorado's best kept secret, clearly you have never seen the Platoro reservoir or Creede, CO. You have gotta do the OHV trail if you have 4WD/AWD. It'll take you on a tour of the old mining operations around Creede.

    • @SkiLodgeColorado
      @SkiLodgeColorado  2 года назад +1

Still a few years out but Creede is on our list. I've been there for work, its a long drive from PW

A few of us have discovered Platoro and the great fly fishing on the Conejos River. But let's continue to keep it on the down low. 😉

Why oh why would you create and offer a list of rankings on the towns and then cover it up with your embedded tiles to your next videos? That is just awful…
