Oh my! American Gothic has never been my favorite style, but this place is so uniquely conceived and executed that it’s absolutely stunning! I can only imagine how beautiful the colors must be.
The setting of this house is quite amazing. It sits in a lovely New England town center on a street lined with other beautiful homes. I've visited a number of times; it's always a treat to see. Excellent video.
I am a long-time admirer of Gothic and Neo-Gothic style and I have wanted to visit Roseland Cottage for many years -- but may never get there. For that reason, I especially appreciate being able to see the interiors here.
Oh I love this one! So adorable, with all of the Neo-Gothic details at every turn. It's cozy, and it would certainly encourage one to take up bowling! Very happy it is still intact and available for tours. It would be great to see more of the setting and surrounding grounds.
Thanks! That is an incredible home. I like the history being included and location. I appreciate the simple style narrative because it allows me to absorb the information. And such a unique house too. 😊
My first reaction to the exterior was- gorgeous but creepy! But then, to my delight, the interior is the perfect “summer cottage”. There is a perfect balance of elegance details (patterned hardware!!!!!) everywhere within an immersive feeling of cozy comfort. Yup, LOVE IT!
Billed as "American Gothic" this home does not give me any creepy feelings! The most intricate carvings along side the staircase impress me. Each area seems spacious; even the kitchen and laundry room feel like nice workable spaces. The exterior house shade is an unexpected color. As a summer home, surrounded by flowers, it does feel fitting!
I'm not a Gothic guy by any means, but I stayed along in the video because of your highly informative discourse about this particular architectural style. Good job!
The fact that US Presidents visited lends any still standing antique home incredible cachet. There have been thousands of business tycoons, but only 45 US Presidents.
I like it! This isn’t usually my favorite style, but this is absolutely exquisite. How cool that they had a bowling alley! And can you imagine having a house that a handful of presidents have visited?😂
My parents called our vacation home a " cottage " ( or " cabin " ) not out of conceit but because when there w/ family & friends , it was a very casual environment in the country ,on its own pond , close to a large lake , so year 'round outdoor activities were the norm . For decades , no phone or tv ; just lots of music & card / board games, if bad weather, & in evenings , that included all ages having fun together . 🥰
@@cynthiajohnston424 Conceit can also mean a kinda ridiculous metaphor, like the understatement of calling a mansion a cottage because it's smaller and "more casual" than your main mansion. I've never been able to figure out if they were being ironic or if they were just really that clueless. 😂

Just amazing. You can plainly see the feminine touch on its decorations. The house looks very close to a house I know of in Rhinebeck NY, seen from Rt9. Same builders?
How is it that on the outside, the main entrance doors are double doors with no glass surrounding them - But inside, it is a single door with colorful stained glass surrounding it?
I haven't been there, so I can't answer that, but perhaps there is a vestibule between the exterior double-door and the single door we see inside. My childhood home had such an enclosed vestibule.
Absolutely charming! I'm so glad homes like this are preserved as museums.

I would love to live here! It is opulent, yet cozy. I love houses that have "hidden" stairs and hallways from when there were servants. Thank you Ken!
So unique. The "original gingerbread house?" With a BOWLING ALLEY no less. Loved it. Many thanks
What a jolly dwelling. 👍

Love those chimney pots, and as much as I like the look of the steep pitched roofs, I'm glad I don't have to be the one to shingle them anymore.
Love each room in this one! ❤

Wow. Over the top decor. Makes Victorian look tame. Like seeing staff areas. Thanks.
My favorite room: All of them
Just wonderful. Thank you!

The dining room wallpaper is amazing!! I toured the house several years ago. I wish you could have mixed in some color photos, its just aweaome.

Great house 😊
The Lincrusta wall coverings are wonderful. I love the layering!
Ken is giving us too much quality content.
Thanks for another amazing video. What a beautiful house. I'm sure it looks amazing in color.
If I could visit all these museums I would be so happy
liked it better in the original whiter paint.
Stairwell is amazing design and construction

It was a conceit of the wealthy to call their houses and mansions cottages. A lovely example.😊 I like the staircase niche.

@@cynthiajohnston424 A nice memory, but I refer more to Newport mansions being called cottages.

Have you featured the Carson house in Eureka California? I’d love to know the history and a tour of that home! Love the work keep it up.
Beautiful cottage, but any comfortable chairs?🤔
Wasn’t the parlor with the curtain in front of the window seat fun? A perfect place to be alone and read…

They had theirs. Cant take it. Could have helped many with that money. What did they find in. Gods prescence
Any way of visiting this place?
Oh. Gothic.
I think that style is sometimes referred to as “Steamboat Gothic”?
Colorized would be nice
Bowling alley? Maybe because there was no electronic entertainment at that time, such as radio, tv, internet, etc.
Why is it black and white inside.
Is Gothic cottage cheese black?
Why on earth did you do this video on black and white?
@@JXDMNN But you're the same person who erroneously believes that slaves built this house .. . Talk about impairment.
Wish the interior would've been shown in color. Hated the black and white. An injustice to the beautiful house.
So tacky, only missing some plastic pink flamingos.
TOO FKN BUSY! 🥴
The narration is kind of lame.
@@JXDMNN Why do you continue to watch it then?
