This has that live performance energy again, which in the last album before this song was a bit lacking, it was a fairly serious concept album, it's great for Babymetal to show they can do that. Oh My Buddha! 😍 I got hyped like an idiot in the simplicity of this song and Momoko's extravagant elocution and moves in Kabuki style (and her growl in live show) gives an amazing accent in the repetitiveness. The lyrics, the dance, the imagery, the Shamisen throughout the whole video. Not to mention all the deeper things non Japanese will completely miss. I'm currently at home, recovering from a corona infection, but I'm writing this as a regretful farewell to this comment section. I can see that you are in no way critical for BABYMETAL. I also see that you have reacted to the videos without preconceptions. So I take it as an innocent comment of yours, but as a Japanese, I would like to say this: BM and k-pop are completely different. Just to confirm our basic knowledges, you know that k-pop originated in South Korea, Japan's neighbouring country? And as a Japanese, I have never felt any k-pop vibes from BM. If I get the same vulgar vibes from BM as I do from k-pop, I will stop being a fan of BM. Of course, I am aware that there are some worldwide demands for k-pop. I don't deny that. K-pop has been a strategic success. As far as the female groups are concerned, they imitated Japanese 90s idol groups like 'Speed', and as far as the males ones are concerned, they have successfully filled the vacancies left by the retirements of One Direction and others, I guess. In both cases, the Western looking and values were pushed to the fore and traditional Korean sexual expression was added to it. Actually Korea has an even stronger admiration for, and complex on the contrary, the West than Japan. Korea's own aesthetic sense is immature historically and there is still a tendency to see the Western looking as the best. It is true that after the war, Japanese music also followed the West, but it did not try to do it nationally, explicitly, and thoroughly like in Korea. I don't know whether that was good or bad, but it was just right for me. This has that live performance energy again, which in the last album before this song was a bit lacking, it was a fairly serious concept album, it's great for Babymetal to show they can do that. But this party-like song is a bit of their bread and butter of course.

I witnessed this song live twice : World premiere (live debut) in a special show on Aug.16 and Performance at huge festival "Summer Sonic Tokyo" on Aug.20. At the actual venues, this song followed after the Western Kamis' splendid instrumental solos. Oh My Buddha! 😍 I got hyped like an idiot in the simplicity of this song and Momoko's extravagant elocution and moves in Kabuki style (and her growl in live show) gives an amazing accent in the repetitiveness. The repetitive わっしょい "Wasshoi" is a call or yell used in Japanese Matsuri (festival). It is a kind of phrase to intensify people's excitement and especially to encourage the power of guys who are carrying a heavy Mikoshi that is similar to a float in Western style festivals.
[FYI : In the festival, BABYMETAL was a closing act after 8 artists. Evanescence performed right before them. I was moved to tears by Amy Lee's "Bring Me To Life".]

For someone not familiar with Japanese folk music, festival music, and the like, i can see why someone would perhaps think it's a punjabi beat, but this is 100% Japanese in every way possible. The lyrics, the dance, the imagery, the Shamisen throughout the whole video. Not to mention all the deeper things non Japanese will completely miss. Flugelhornoldman suggested Andrew Hartley's video on his channel, i seconds that recommendation. Watch it on your free time, it's fascinating and fun info.

The word "wasshoi" doesn't have any specific meaning, it's just a traditional thing to say, this song is basically a traditional Japanese folk dance song, with metal, as far as I understand it.
I don't know where you got the idea that Su's name has the letter i in it, it doesn't. Her name is Suzaka Nakamoto, or Su-Metal for short. :) Maybe help prevent future pig noises.

I can see that you are in no way critical for BABYMETAL. I also see that you have reacted to the videos without preconceptions. So I take it as an innocent comment of yours, but as a Japanese, I would like to say this: BM and k-pop are completely different. Just to confirm our basic knowledges, you know that k-pop originated in South Korea, Japan's neighbouring country? And as a Japanese, I have never felt any k-pop vibes from BM.
If I get the same vulgar vibes from BM as I do from k-pop, I will stop being a fan of BM. Of course, I am aware that there are some worldwide demands for k-pop. I don't deny that. K-pop has been a strategic success. As far as the female groups are concerned, they imitated Japanese 90s idol groups like 'Speed', and as far as the males ones are concerned, they have successfully filled the vacancies left by the retirements of One Direction and others, I guess. In both cases, the Western looking and values were pushed to the fore and traditional Korean sexual expression was added to it. Actually Korea has an even stronger admiration for, and complex on the contrary, the West than Japan. Korea's own aesthetic sense is immature historically and there is still a tendency to see the Western looking as the best.
It is true that after the war, Japanese music also followed the West, but it did not try to do it nationally, explicitly, and thoroughly like in Korea. I don't know whether that was good or bad, but it was just right for me. I was sickened by the vulgar hip-shaking, plastic surgery with impunity, and make-up that paints the faces in an oddly white color. However, I like some Korean movies.
Well, I give up on the idea that Westerners are not interested in distinguishing between Japanese and Koreans, but I wanted to say this as a Japanese, a BM fan. If you're interested in Asian, Japanese music (but you seem to have forgotten how to spell Su), I would like you to note the differences between k-pop and music from other countries.
