  • Jean-Guihen Queyras takes us on a journey into the secrets of one of the most famous works for cello solo.
Suite 2, Prélude: What is your Minore?
How did Bach come to conceive the unimaginable: composing an two-and-a-half hour “opera” for a single 4-stringed instrument?
Why did he use dances throughout the Suites? Are these dances meant to be danced? How does one choose a bowing? How free can the interpreter be?
These are only a few of the many questions on which Jean-Guihen will give us his insight as a passionate performer of this Masterwork.
Jean-Guihen will be delighted to answer your questions, which can be sent to live@idagio.com

Superbe échange entre deux messagers de la musique de Bach...
Serait-il possible d'ajouter des sous-titres anglais (la qualité audio est vraiment moyenne quand Steven Isserlis prend la parole) ?
    Merci !

GREAT ! The question though is did Bach go so extensively about this analysis and details that our friend describes here, or did he go with this feelings and leaving the rest to us the platers. He did not specify tempi, and no dynamics markings and giving us lots of opportunities for rubatos. And that is why every player plays all of these suites differently with their own feelings, colors and dynamics and the blessing is we hear different ideas and approaches to the piece from different virtuosos. Papa Bach would not oppose any of them since HE was the one that gave us this freedom. and the blueprints of his Music. Bottom line is to. And believe me Bach CAN touch. AZim is to can make it real music and touch people
