My wife used to tear up whenever I played "The Sweetest Thing" by Juice Newton. After being married over 20 years, she passed away three years ago and now I tear up whenever I hear it; her memory becomes so close.
Ditto. "The Sweetest Thing" became "our song" back around 1982 when it came out. We got married the next year. And my wife died of cancer last month, after 40 years of marriage. We played the song at her funeral. I know how you feel.
What a talented musician..She has such a unique voice. I admire Juice for quitting her career for a few years to raise her children. ..she came back with the same incredible vocals.
Imagine our joy years ago when Juice Newton sang at a local high school for a July 4th fireworks show - obviously not at a high point in her career. You could literally all but walk up to the stage placed in the middle of the field without being stopped. There were few really paying attention to the music mostly families just waiting for darkness for the real show in the sky. We thoroughly enjoyed her performance and could have left totally satisfied without seeing anything else.
This masterpiece was released in October of 1981 while my bride of now forty years to be and I were courting. It became our song, and I still sing it to her while playing it on my acoustic guitar. Still thrills our hearts like it did when it played on the car radio on those long drives across the state we made to see each other. God bless Otha Young for leaving us this treasure of a love ballad, as well as Juice Newton for recording it. It will long endure and be treasured by new generations of music lovers long after we're gone.
I LOVE THIS SONG.MY HUSBAND AND I DANCED TO THIS SONG OFTEN.SADLY I WILL NEVER DANCE TO THIS SONG WITH HIM AGAIN.HE PASSED AWAY IN 2005.I HAVE THIS SONG AND MANY OTHERS AND THE MEMORIES THAT COME WITH THEM.
Don't you worry your beautiful head Ms. Catherine God is saving a recording of this on a special gold record for that great day when you and your husband shall meet again and waltz into eternity for ever more! xoxox
Just like my loved ones that have passed...you'll always have those memories...I find that these memories come when you least expect it and will draw a smile. Don't be afraid, embrace them.
Went to a Juice Newton concert when this song came out. Standing ovation and the emotions of the audience was palpable. Love filled the air for Juice and this song. Beautiful, heartfelt and Juice is the only one on the planet who sings it the way it should be done. Juice, you rock. ❤❤❤❤
She sounds just as good live as in a studio. Can't say that about very many. The other thing I love about her voice is when she hits her high and louder notes, she doesn't go off into a screech or yell--which a lot of today's singers do. I agree--she's under appreciated.
She SHOULD be more appreciated, but do not forget, Juice sold A LOT of records and still earns royalties from her string of crossover Rockabilly/top 40/country/pop/adult contemporary hits. I am pretty sure she pulled back from, as she described it in interviews, the hard toll this kind of life exacts on a person and her loved ones, and needed to do it to preserve her whole as a person. (my interpretation from memory LOL).
People keep saying 'she has the voice of an angel', I think she has the voice of a bulldozer, such power and it comes so easily to her, her natural voice....I love it and I love you Juice!
Beautiful song sung by a talented artist. My husband has said that to me.❤️ We have been together 59 years now. It's not been a bed of roses, but life never is. Thanks for sharing
You got 20 on my wife and I. Even if she left me tomorrow I would carry her in my heart. We have been through so much together. Folks have to choose to stay together and/or stay married; no one is perfect. That includes me... :)
A good singer is one thing, but a truly great singer takes you to another place. It’s something magical, and rare. She feels it, and makes you feel it. Her piano player is amazing too. When the song reaches its crescendo, around 3:33, it simply blows me away. Pure excellence.
I remember this song from MTV when I was a freshman in high school, one of the most happiest moments in my life. Brings back great memories. Juice Newton is the best in all of country history. Just PHENOMENAL! Thanks for sharing and bringing back beautiful memories of my teen years.
Wow it's like what a powerful and wonderful human being she is you just kept with that now you keep it up I don't know what else you look lately but you're definitely special
I have seen Juice (Judy) perform several times. But the most intimate performance I have experienced was at The Dosey Doe in The Woodlands TX. Juice gave a performance of a lifetime (as usual), but was available afterwards to sign her CDs and made everyone feel special. Juice is my all time favorite female performer!
For you Mother. Your love for Dad was the most wondrous thing I've ever seen. God, he loved you! It was so hard after he died that it never went away for any of us. He gave you the world, but you gave him the universe. Love you, James
I saw Her perform around of Her Hometown of Virginia Beach, Virginia around 1989 She put on an awesome concert that day and I have been In love with Her music since Love Juice Newton.
One of two love ballads I love most listening is this one by Juice with her clear crystal voice & the other is Unchained Melody by Bobby Hatfield with his. I wonder if these two ever met.
God that's beautuful. Thank you for that gift Juice Newton.
Juice is so under appreciated for both the quality of her voice and her wonderful presentations. Love you Juice!!
Dude, Yes!
Absolutely
I bought this album in 81 because of this song............still love it just as much today and only she could make it sound so beautiful.

Without a doubt, this lady put all she had,....and more,.... into this song. She can really go high.
