This remains, and probably will stay the best country song ever written, and performed. Brenda Lee's version is so terrific, yet Juice Newton totally launched it to an amazing level of perfection.
I wore this song out in 84, going through the big D, believed every word of this song. Years later found the love of my life, still married 19+ years. Never give up or settle for less than you deserve........
And I absolutely adore Brenda Lee! But I get what you’re saying not many people can do this song and I’ve been a singer most of my younger years idolizing these 2 PLUS … Linda Ronstadt ..do you agree?
Although after listening there’s no denying Brenda Lee did this exactly the delivery….. ! No one could do it like that,,, no different than Patsy Cline’s songs
I saw this woman sing long ago when she first became popular. I'll never forget walking into the venue, the [Kentucky] Derby Eve Jam. She was singing this and just belting it out beautifully. This rock n roller was impressed!
Wow does this bring back some old GOOD memories. I used to have hair just like hers and wish I still had it. I think she sings this much better than Brenda Lee. She carries a note much longer and much more clearer. This is my favorite song from her. Sing on Juice.
There is no body better. NOBODY Voice, looks, guitar, choreography, haberdashery, massive repertoire of amazingly great songs, and some writing. AND GREAT SOLO CAPABILITY ALSO!! Actually I give her # 1.
Juice delivers this song so skillfully. Her phrasing is perfect, and that slide at the end is the most exciting musical moment ever. Technically the rendition is a "cover," but in reality Juice owns this song.
+Thom Thumn I disagree. This is a rather run-of-the-mill cover and it doesn't have any of the character that comes from Lee's unique voice. Her version of Angel of the Morning is certainly lovely though.
Juice Newton (that voice!) doing this great song is one of the best musical treats to come out of the '80s. This and 'The Sweetest Thing' are her two songs that did well on pop AND country. Usually her hits were one or the other. Great stuff. Thank you for posting.
I remember her singing "The Sweetest Thing" on an awards show so many years ago...I was watching it on TV and when she hit the close you actually hear every male in the audience take a deep breath when the shiver went up their spine...mine included, just an incredible experience...I have loved listening to gurl singers ever since...:-)
Oh dear, gives me all these wonderful memories. God, she has the most wonderful soulful voice, and the music creeps gently into me. Thanks a lot for posting it.
I must say, this is one of the songs that does bring back a lot of memories for me.. blasting it on my Soundesign stereo.. state of the art turntable with radio tuner and 8 track combined.. man I miss that thing!
Yep, Juice Newton won the Best Country Female Artist Grammy for "Break It to Me Gently" in 1983. In her career, she has been nominated for four other Grammys, two in Pop and two in Country.
JUICE NEWTON ....BREAK IT TO ME GENTLY. ...POP COUNTRY MUSIC. .WITH A GREAT TONE OF VOICE FOR A GREAT ARTIST......THAT ONLY IN THIS CASE JUICE CAN DO. NOT OTHER. SINGER...CHART TOP. BILLBOARD. .JUICE IS BEEN ABSOLUTELY. FAMOUS. WITH OTHERS SONGS..
Beautiful voice. She was under rated for sure. She does this better than the original from Brenda Lee. She sings this with such emotion and her voice is so smooth.
Greatest moments of my life were listening to Juice at the Klub Kar in Tuscon, Az. by the railroad tracks. I should have walked into a train but I thought it would get even better.
Awesome beautiful song! from the great version from excellent talent by juice newton.really country pop tune from one of the best year for country music bussines 1982!!!!!
This song can only be done right by the amazing Juice Newton, in my book. She brings just the right degree of torchiness and force behind that great voice. It is indeed, really, her song.
I remember a music video to this song with a WWII theme. Juice was dressed like a 1940s WAC in romantic scenes with a soldier. It aired on MTV and other music channels in 1982.
@cwingert2011 --Bless your heart, kid. Good for you. I grew up in the 80s and I really miss the music especially. Top 40 was so catchy and diverse back then. There was something for everyone. Now, its just hip hop crap and teenybopper nonsense. Poor kids today don't understand harmonies, playing w/real insturments (sorry Rockband doesn't count), or keeping things subtle and smut-free. I'm so happy to have grown up in the time that I did.
40 years ago, Juice Newton broke it to the world gently!
Beautiful song that came out in 1982. I was 18 years old. Today the music has no feeling.
Out of all the different singers that sang this song, I liked it best when it came out of Juice Newton.
God I miss country pop music of the 1980s it was so underrated
Gosh....great memories......❤
Juice was born in New Jersey, but was raised in Virginia Beach, hence the southern influence. She is an amazing singer.
Juice newton, i love you for ever.
This remains, and probably will stay the best country song ever written, and performed. Brenda Lee's version is so terrific, yet Juice Newton totally launched it to an amazing level of perfection.
Goooooooood look at that hair!!!!!! Loved growing up in the 80's... Absolutely loved it!
The first time I heard this song,a long time ago,it resonates with us(past girlfriend) and still does , Juice Newton's voice in my heart.
I wore this song out in 84, going through the big D, believed every word of this song. Years later found the love of my life, still married 19+ years. Never give up or settle for less than you deserve........
I loooove her version
A great singer
Every time I hear her sing this song I end up with tear on my cheek. She puts so much feeling in the song. Brenda Lee was good, but this is amazing.
And I absolutely adore Brenda Lee! But I get what you’re saying not many people can do this song and I’ve been a singer most of my younger years idolizing these 2 PLUS … Linda Ronstadt ..do you agree?

Juce Newton is so under rated. She is Amazing
Masterful. Still gives me chills just like the first time I heard her sing it years ago. The note she hits at the end is just incredible.
Awesome country song
I never gave this song enough credit. Hearing it years later, wow! Amazing Amazing amazing
Sometimes melancholy feels good. She does it just right !!
Her voice still give me bumps after those years...Love it..
I saw this woman sing long ago when she first became popular. I'll never forget walking into the venue, the [Kentucky] Derby Eve Jam. She was singing this and just belting it out beautifully. This rock n roller was impressed!
Wonderful version of a wonderful song
The True Country Pop Style in the 80s
She specialized in and perfected country/pop crossover.
What a heartbreaking song, done with just the right touch of emotion by JN.
Such an amazing and beautiful singer love her music
She let this song drag her soul out of her, with so much emotion she sang this song, that it wrenched my heart.
Wow does this bring back some old GOOD memories. I used to have hair just like hers and wish I still had it. I think she sings this much better than Brenda Lee. She carries a note much longer and much more clearer. This is my favorite song from her. Sing on Juice.
she is fantastic...what a voice
So very perfectly produced. I love this

No way. This is a great version but nobody tops Brenda Lee.
+Thom Thumn I disagree. This is a rather run-of-the-mill cover and it doesn't have any of the character that comes from Lee's unique voice. Her version of Angel of the Morning is certainly lovely though.
I think you are right
@@bboooobbyy there's plenty of ear doctors you can consult I'm sure
That "slide" at the end isn't a slide at all! It a coo! Love it!
Juice Newton could sing a phone book and make it sound like platinum
I just LOVE this song, and she belts it out with so emotion........Go Girl
What an amazing singer!

Juice Newton is one of the very best of her time. Her sound is timeless. She is simply awesome.
I remember her singing "The Sweetest Thing" on an awards show so many years ago...I was watching it on TV and when she hit the close you actually hear every male in the audience take a deep breath when the shiver went up their spine...mine included, just an incredible experience...I have loved listening to gurl singers ever since...:-)
What a beautiful voice she has, like an angel's voice.
Wow! Great song!
Oh dear, gives me all these wonderful memories. God, she has the most wonderful soulful voice, and the music creeps gently into me. Thanks a lot for posting it.
Voice of an angel.
Touching lyrics. Real music with actual words...the way music is suppose to be.
Wow, such passion in her voice
love her voice esp at the end of the song when she really cuts loose
I love❤️ u Juice. U are a legend
I always loved this song she does a wonderful job on it. I like it way better than the other two singles.
I wish someone has a better quality video, it's one of her best!
I must say, this is one of the songs that does bring back a lot of memories for me.. blasting it on my Soundesign stereo.. state of the art turntable with radio tuner and 8 track combined.. man I miss that thing!
Absolutely excellent. Thank you and thanks to Paul for sharing with us. Stars and hugs...

One of my favorites,
Winner of grammy for best Country Vocals 1983!
Yes, thats correct
This great song reached #11 in 1982. Brenda Lee's original reached #4 in 1962.
What a woman - what a song - my heart beats faster !!
I simply love the way Juice Newton sings, she has a beautiful voice. Eddie
Beautiful!!!
I could not have put it any more eloquently. You are right on!
Love this song. I never noticed it before but it sounds like Please Come Home for Christmas by The Eagles.
wow!, it's a beautiful song; long long time without watching it.
Thanks.
I love you Juice Newton 💕

Born Judy Kay Newton. Bless you, Mark, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a blessed rest of the week!
Beautiful hurt.
So awesome 👌
Another great song from the 80s
Listening in 2021 still sounds Awesome...❤
This song can only be done right by the amazing Juice Newton, in my book. She brings just the right degree of torchiness and force behind that great voice. It is indeed, really, her song.
Bruce, I usually prefer the original, but like Nancy Brooks said - Juice makes this her song.
Juice Newton's version is outstanding, but will always be an afterthought compared to the great pioneer, Brenda Lee.
I remember a music video to this song with a WWII theme. Juice was dressed like a 1940s WAC in romantic scenes with a soldier. It aired on MTV and other music channels in 1982.
I think that song was Hurt, from 1986. Both were covers from early 60s songs that were similar vocally.... a lot of big builds and surges.
Anyone here in 2024?
I Am. 💔
