Lake Erie Middle Harbor Search for Kayak Launch Access and Big Bass

  • First off full disclosure, this video involves more bushwhacking down trails than actual fishing!
    This weekend was the Ohio Kayak Fishing Lake Erie Harbors tournament with East Harbor, West Harbor, and Middle Harbor eligible waters. I had the rare opportunity to take some vacation from work and headed up to East Harbor State Park Campground on Wednesday when the tournament was on Saturday, leaving two days for scouting and pre-fishing!
    Middle Harbor had never been in bounds before and I wasn't aware of any ramps onto Middle, so my big goal for the weekend was to find a launching spot...which means that the first half of this video is my quest to find lake access which involved a lot of hiking and no fishing! But the second half I actually get out on Middle Harbor to pre-fish and find some great largemouth bass!
    Because of all the pre-fishing and bushwhacking adventures on the first two days of my trip, I decided that the actual tournament will be a separate video, out soon! EDIT: okay, maybe out soon, but I put the tournament sd card somewhere safe so I wouldn't lose it while I worked on this pre-fish video and now I can't find where I put it. I'll keep looking but just let y'all know it was a case of "great pre-fish and bad tournament" so we aren't missing much if I never find it!

      Thank you! And as it seems to happen according to facebook posts, when you have a great pre-fish the tournament is a total failure. 🤣

    Melissa thank you for sharing your pre fishing day on the lake. You have really become a mature angler out there you are really analyzing your lakes so much better working everything out where the best launch is the temperature and what baits to use! Then you cracked me up when you said, “I don’t know, I don’t know these fish!” I was cracking up, but you are getting it and like you said my body of knowledge is growing more and yes it is! You were catching some nice pre- fish can’t wait to see the tournament video tight lines take care and God bless you Melissa❤❤❤❤!

    Great relaxing video! You got a nice campsite to stay at and you found a launch spot. Those were some really nice fish you caught! Wow! You did your homework nicely.

    Launching in middle harbor is a nightmare but 100% worth it. Those fish dont see a lot of lures. The grass in the very far back of west harbor is really productive too.

    Awesome video girl!
    I went on a early morning ( left the house at 3am) in the 1st weekend in May to Middle Harbor. I put in by the road in by the same rocks in your video. It got really windy, really sucked in a cheap paddle kayak. Bass jumping everywhere. I went far left, nothing on top water.
    Nailed 17.5" football bass right after I switched to Yamamoto senko black/blue flakes/ blue tail!!
    Flew off my Ketch board like a Browns fumble while I was taking a photo. Got too windy, so I went to East Harbor. Nailed a bunch of bass along the bank of the birding trail area. Late May when the grass was up, drifted to the center nailing bass with a Blue Rock 1099 black/blue jig dragging it on the bottom.

      @GirlGoneFishing I recognized the areas in Middle Harbor you was at. I was getting blown away everywhere dragging my 3lb anchor. Hopefully next year I'll have a pedal kayak and a better anchor. Your videos help me alot at the lakes I'm usually trying to fish.

    • @GirlGoneFishing
      @GirlGoneFishing  2 месяца назад +1

      I'm torn between going back to Middle next time or trying that new trail launch I found into the back of West Harbor. West probably has bigger bass and maybe people don't get back that far if you have to motor back from the marina launches. I'm also sad I didn't even launch on East Harbor this year!

    • @lowlifeangler
      @lowlifeangler 2 месяца назад +1

      @GirlGoneFishing I would launch in Middle Harbor due to that regular boats can't get into. Just watch the windy conditions. The wind was pushing me back into the rocks. The campgrounds block a lot of wind at East Harbor. If East Harbor gets windy I'll get shoved into the center where the big bass are. I spent around 3 hrs in the middle. You were there on a very calm day. I never tried the Egret Marsh but hiked it a couple times. I didn't realize it goes to West Harbor. I finally have a Yakattack Tow-n-stow cart, so I can take to the trails

    Great video as usual. What was the maximum depth of middle harbor if you don't mind me asking?
    From what I read you didn't do well tournament day? I've learned that even when I had what I perceived to be a bad day and look back GOD provided me with the opportunity to fish and if I look lessons to be learned. Keep a log for next time. Now on to the next one.

    • @GirlGoneFishing
      @GirlGoneFishing  2 месяца назад +1

      Max depth I found was 3 1/2 feet, most was around 2 feet. It is funny that you said that because I am editing the tournament day video now and my morning was awesome, I had 81 inches by just after 9am. But then I watched for 5 hours as I didn't catch fish and dropped in the standings, so I need to figure out how to adjust to changing fish patterns faster and better!

    • @VAFSH4LIF
      @VAFSH4LIF 2 месяца назад +1

      @@GirlGoneFishing 81 inches for the 1st time on that particular body of waters not bad, 16-1/4" avg. I seem to have the same issue, I do well in the morning but once the sun gets up high I struggle to figure out where they went? Best of Luck in your next event.

      From talking to some of the guys who were pre-fishing on West and East Harbors on this same day, the bass were biting everywhere on everything for most of the day. It really messed up a few people who were trying to learn patterns for the tournament! But I have never experienced anything like this day before so I am very grateful!
