  • Sometimes a contestant fails so spectacularly that they don't even score a single point. Here are some of the most inglorious and iconic disqualifications in the history of Taskmaster.

    ------------
    In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
    Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

    The fact that Joe got completely disqualified for accidentally barely touching the red green on the potato throw, whereas Tim knowingly and willingly cheated, and tried to cover it up, merely got bumped to last place, is one of the greatest injustices ever put to screen.

    • @HerHollyness
      @HerHollyness 3 года назад +718

      I think in Series 1 Greg was still finding his feet and didn’t know how harsh to be. He’s got more strict as the series have gone on!

      @@HerHollyness Yeah, it was the very first episode at that. Ed and Alex discussed it on the this week's podcast, and they agreed that it was down to Greg still establishing how mean he could be, after all, it was a bit of a risk already. Joe’s potato one pisses me off every time I watch it, especially because of the smug explanation given by Doc. “If you were to take those couple centimeters away (…) it’d be all rim and bounce out.” No the f*ck it wouldn’t. The throw is determined by the upper body, not the toe placement. Not only that, but look at the shoes of someone who is standing. Notice how most shoes curve UP at the toes? That means he very likely wasn’t even touching the red green to begin with.
      I get that it was a vote, so he can choose any reason he wants to vote no, but the smugness of the “if you were to take those couple of centimeters that he gains…” really bothers me. I have a hard time with injustices (ADHD), even fictional ones. I don’t even think it should have been a vote to begin with, though, because shoes curve up at the toe. The overlap isn’t more than a few millimeters, MAYBE a couple centimeters. Either way, it isn’t enough to be touching the green.

    Still think about Joe's potato throwing moment, just sheer heartbreak. The tip of his shoe curved up so I still feel he shouldnt have been disqualified. However, it is also one of the best Taskmaster moments and made even better by Doc's "All rim and bounced out" betrayal.

      You could probably fill this whole video with stuff from season 10. Everyone being disqualified on the first task because they spilled the drinks. Everyone stepping on the red green later. Mawaan moving the hoops. Daisy and Catherine hitting the robots in the remote control task. Mawaan using the washing machine in the marble run. Johhny And Catherine in the beermat task. And then Daisy in the final studio task.

    Potato-Gate remains one of the best pieces of TV I've seen in years. It's the perfect set-up, how Greg and Alex let him bask in his moment of glory is painful. And my favourite bit is that there is definitely a part when they both look at each other with an expression that said "Shit, I think we might have taken this too far".
    Gold.

    The discussion of the other contestants were cut out for Joe's potato task. Doc Brown and Jon Richardson's argument for why Joe shouldn't get the point is a realistic example of how nobody else will help you become successful.
    Jessica Knappett actually lost the series because of this disqualification. She needed only 1 more point for a tie with Kerry Godliman.

    • @JakeFLM
      @JakeFLM 2 года назад +9

      Disagree about ur arguement about Doc and Jon. I think them not helping him get points for the task was more of their competitiveness and just wanting to gain an advantage. If ur in a competition and u have a chance to deduct points of ur enemy u would definitely take that chance or atleast consider it. Had it been a team task they prolly wouldve defended it.
      We can also make that arguemeny that its quite funny or more entertaining for TV to have joe go last since he always goes last in the tasks.

    The potato throw, reminds me of triple jump, or long jump when they do a really amazing jump, and then they do the replay only to discover it was not allowed, the reaction was very accurate. If you just took the reaction, it was almost like a sportsman who did a world record performance before being taking away just for stepping just a little too far. Or in rugby when they do an amazing try, only for them to be off side or forward pass.
