FYI....Waimea Falls(pronounced Why-may-ah) is approximately 45 ft high & is one of the few Oahu waterfalls that have year-round rainfall. Waimea translates as Red water from the dirt/sediment that comes from Above the falls. That "squirrel-like animal" that you mentioned could very well be mongooses(or is it mongeese?)-lol...as Hawaii does not have any indigenous wildlife, including wild boars & chickens. Waimea was one of the "ports" that James Cook stopped at to replenish, primarily, his fresh-water & other stores when he "discovered" the Sandwich Islands in mid-1700s.....
