I think the question "Should women serve national service" is a really interesting topic to talk about. Objectively speaking, if the males have a national obligation to serve the nation, there should be an appropriate and equal 'obligation' for the ladies (if we're all for equality here). Now before you start and go on a witch hunt to cancel me, it does NOT have to be all out in the jungle, carrying a heavy field pack or marching under the hot sun because I do recognize that men and women are very different biologically. Rather, there should be an option open for the ladies to decide if they would like to serve in non-combative (healthcare - EMT medics, nurses/ parachute riggers/ clerical work/ army intelligence etc - suggestions as provided by the ladies in the video and I'm really happy that they mentioned that!) roles but of course, the option to serve in a combat role should remain open if they so choose to do so. This would render the "I am not as strong as the guys" argument invalid, isn't it? After all, even the guys with medically diagnosed physical issues do still have to serve and complete their 2 years albeit in a different capacity because everyone should contribute in their own way towards total defence. This (women for mandatory NS) is probably really controversial because the status quo has been in place for as long as we have had our independence and a change to that would likely incite more outcry than support. In my personal opinion, if we were to progress as a society towards greater equality, (wage gap issues, etc) then we should not cherry-pick issues but rather be open to addressing all (the good and the bad) that comes with it. Do reply to the comment if you wish to present an alternative view or find that any points I have raised to be flawed because it is always nice to hear a different pov. But do keep it civil and objective.
And I also agree that it's controversial, and incites more outcry than support. These fast few hours of looking at replies went too personal too quick and I'm not sure that their intentions are aligned with mine - to educate and improve, being open to a topic and not cherry picking on things. All the attacks, assumptions and twisting my words... I hope it doesn't happen here. I think people would be too afraid to voice out after seeing what happened to me in 1 or 2 threads 😭
@@renaawq8742 Don't b afraid to Stan wat u believe in. I think dis pple r making a mountain out of a molehill. But they admitted that gals can serve d country in alternative ways! Its quite funny tat everyone seems to b attacking Renae (n U) on dis topic😂. O lord, pls send GOD to d rescue 🙏🙏
I oso like to emphasize tat guys n gals can NEVER B EQUAL. For example, in d job market for d same Designation n duties, when d guy n d gal hv d same qualifications n experiences, d GUY will receive better remuneration than d GAL. For those who had completed NS, will get more than d ladies, hence ur time spent in NS is not worthless afterall. Therefore, men n women can nvr b equal!
The typical counter argument is that in general, women give birth to 1-2 kids and are pregnant for 9 months or 18 months. Being pregnant/feeding newborn also affects their career opportunities.
14:00 “If something were to happen it would have happened already.” I think this really misses the mark. Tell that to someone who started off with a great marriage but ended up in adultery. We need to be realistic that temptations always exist and we are not static in how we behave.
I think she just meant that if a girl has a long time friend and both of them are attracted to eachother, then they would of done something instead of going and dating different people. Like why wouldn’t they date if they are both attracted to eachother? There are a few cases that this doesn’t apply but usually it is the case.
Regarding the NS question, I agree men and women are not equal; we have our own advantages as well as our own problems specific to our gender that we have to deal with. To say that we are completely equal is to discount all the amazing things women can do that men simply can't (and ofcourse vice versa). That being said we all strive for equal opportunity, rights and responsibility. BUT Equality does not mean being equal to men only when it benefits you! Every reason you mentioned is not gender specific (you think guys want to get bitten by snakes or like shitting in the jungle???). You girls are using your gender as a reason to not take on the responsibility of protecting our nation (which I take pride in). This is blatant hypocrisy in the face of the equality argument. Renae is very clear in her stance that she doesn't want to do it because she is a woman. By her logic, for example, if women were paid 30% of what men get paid for doing the same job the solution would be to... if man complaining about it: give your money to a women if woman complaining about it: ask your brother or dad for money Doesn't fix the situation at all. I agree with Leah that it may not be at the same standard but I disagree when you brought up the lack of wanting retrospective action on changing the rules/law and the reasoning behind it. There was once a time when women did not have the right to vote. It was this way for a very long time. I'm sure you're glad we changed that right. Again it comes down to whether it suits you and equality is not being equal only when it benefits you. I don't want to generalize and I don't think every girl feels the same way as y'all but I do hope not all girls share this hypocritical view (especially Renae)
I totally resonate with your comment! their answers to the question show clearly why the more women should serve NS too. It's sad that no one is pushing this change in Singapore, or rather no one dares...

I think women would be an asset in the Army, especially in the medical field and also in administrative roles in MINDEF. For those who prefer combat roles an option should be given for them
as a girl, heres my opinion on ns: i think we should serve "ns" but like non-military like nursing or something but idk so that it's fair (both spend 1.5 years) but it plays to each of our strength
Write a draft proposal or opinion piece and publish it on a newspaper forum or present to your MP. Don’t just think / say and then cower and be afraid of rocking the boat.
There are so many guys who are obviously not cut out for the army life but are still forced to serve. I think saying that girls should not serve simply because of their gender is misogynistic and sexist. If the concern is about biological differences there are always other areas like nursing.
I actually posted a reply saying how girls can benefit the country by serving and it got deleted. They just want to abuse their privilege and say stupid shit like "ask your mom to serve ns". They want people to defend their country but play no active part in doing so.
Yo just my opinion but I feel like army is just a fraction of what women go through, especially for things like childbirth. It kinda makes sense when you think about it. Not saying all women go through childbirth but not necessarily all men perceive NS as a forceful service. Also, there are also women out there who serve the army, just that it's not compulsory for all.
@@prn_Melatonin Man I don't think it's about privilege (???) Yes everyone wants someone to defend their country but if there were no mandatory rule for anyone to defend this small country then nobody would do it. NS is not just Army. It’s national service. U can serve the nation in various means. In the hospital, government service, even various vocation in armed forces, spf, ... its only right that the girls serve the nation.
i think if government allocate more privileges to "People" who served National service for 2 Years and 10 Cycles ,there wont be so much discussions on whether girls need to serve NS anot.
exactly! why do guys have to sacrifice 2 years of their life when women are also part of this nation? Moreover, we still have to be tormented by reservists every year until we finish the 10 cycles or reach 40 years old. It is only right that men are being compensated in one way or another for all these sacrifices we make. I hate it so much when women start fighting for women rights such as equal pay and all in Singapore. Like women here already have many advantages over men.
@@DINGTONGDING I don't c why u r complaining so much abt NS being compulsory for guys in Sg. In fact guys shld b so proud of it! So we can oso experience ten mths of pregnancy n labour pain, in order to enjoy d "privilege" of being d other gender👶
@@leechong2291 Well said. I can't stand it when some guys complain about NS over n over again. My brother served as a sergeant, my bro in law as a commando officer. Not once, I heard them complaining. They saw it as responsibility and privilege to protect their country, their community, their families. What if women started complaining about having to give birth and job discrimination faced from taking maternity leave.
Want equal rights but don’t want equal responsibilities? There’s no need to flame the females in the video but it just shows the double standards on the view of gender equality in some people.
I agree that both male and females should engage in the mandatory notion of serving the country and it should be expanded to alternatives like research, social service, healthcare, civil defence, communications etc. But I don't think it is fair to generalise it as a "double standard" if we are discussing conscription in the current conventional sense of military service. One of the many reasons is that a military environment tends to foster cultures of sexual violence. Again, there are many reasons and it is a complex issue, like how I don't believe that the simplistic analogy of childbearing is a sufficient reason for this conversation. Normalise discussing gender equality issues without bringing another gender down, that's not equality anymore.
the wise encik and OC during my NS time suggests if an entire generation has to serve NS it will introduce an impact on the other pillars of defence. so we let the women volunteer/sign on instead
All SGeans got to know that NS is not just outfield n PT, there is admin/medic/and less strenuous vocations. There r skills that can't be learn outside esp strict discipline.
@@prn_Melatonin that's the point. Firstly NS is mainly pictured/assumed to be wholey army and/or PT, to the majority out there. Secondly, NS being a huge national mandate/security means that all SGeans, regardless of guys or girls should be minimally aware/understand that its solely not just the army, but also involves backend vocations or other forces, in appreciation for all who r serving and have served.

Also, if females join NS, then they won't be left out when having conversations about army right? :) #fightfortherealequality

Honestly, I oso hope GOD will create guys being able to conceive n give birth! So we can oso experience ten mths of pregnancy n labour pain, in order to enjoy d "privilege" of being d other gender👶
Sg men get paid more than women for the same job (well, at least in the public sector) for serving NS
@@jen5138 👍👏👏💯💪🇸🇬 So proud of dis sons of SG‼️
i am LIVING for the chaotic energy in this vid
super late but even with my volume at 10% and the editor lowering the scream my mum still heard it and scolded me for watching yt too late LOL
3:55 well done, editor. well done.
was that an edit or did someone really farted?
Holy Shiz. Jess is damn funny sia! I spat out my water!
Have you actually seen what the VC does, its just a bunch of women prancing around in make belief uniforms.
Was his name guru laghima
wahh rainae looks so good in this video

WHAT DOES BOLYN EAT HOW IS HE SO TALL PLEASE
interestingly he eats a lot of vegetarian food because his dad is vegetarian and runs a vegetarian food stall.
i like leah’s thoughts 💖💖
I love the edits
All SGeans got to know that NS is not just outfield n PT, there is admin/medic/and less strenuous vocations. There r skills that can't be learn outside esp strict discipline.
what strict discipline, don't have la
by all SGeans, you mean just the men, right? because women obviously dont serve NS, how can they possible know what its like?
@@prn_Melatonin that's the point. Firstly NS is mainly pictured/assumed to be wholey army and/or PT, to the majority out there. Secondly, NS being a huge national mandate/security means that all SGeans, regardless of guys or girls should be minimally aware/understand that its solely not just the army, but also involves backend vocations or other forces, in appreciation for all who r serving and have served.
JESSSS!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ 😂😂😂
Sew and Renae cannot join military because not allowed to cuddle cute pillows on duty! 🤣
oh man i love charmaine sew's earrings!

Here it is
@@reesespisces9086 yes they did but I want them to try to do it professionally:))
The first question wasn't very well answered but I assume TSL crew is trying to keep it short and funny rather than going into the topic. I'm on the stance girls should serve NS too, but I understand where these girls are coming from. Some comments here are just shooting down these girls just because they do not share your stance or pain -_-
We’d love it if this was made into a series!

0:36 - Do you think women should serve NS?
2:31 - Do you want us to fight a guy who is bullying you or would you want to stand up for yourself?
4:16 - When we go on a date, how do I hint that I want to go dutch without sounding petty and calculative?
6:22 - If a couple begins to live together, how should duties like household chores and child rearing be split?
8:40 - What do you think of Mummy's boys?
10:04 - Do you get irritated when we talk about army things?

So freaking funny. Thanks for a good laugh girls 👏🏻
I would suggest doing a "Ask TSL: Questions Binaries (ie Guys and Girls) Always Wanted To Ask Non-Binaries" as well!
You know it’s gonna be a good video when you see Renae in it
"I feel we have jie jie complex" 😂😂😂😂
Im dying laughing 😂😂😂
Uk, sometimes I wonder why Ranae and Rainer won't try to go out on an actual date alr
interesting QnA and editing but editing is abit tooooo overdone sometimes - like the wobble filter over the laughing part was kinda excessive
So feminism is fighting for equal rights for females but you still think NS should not be compulsory for females? Isn't it a responsibility of all citizens to protect their own country? Also, if females join NS, then they won't be left out when having conversations about army right? :)
#fightfortherealequality
no snake will bite only mosquitoes will bite, in my year of NS hardly see a snake.lol
funny there were alot of snakes in my camp that backstab each other
The snakes are all not in the wild ah, they’re mostly found in the coy offices :-)))
Jes is totally my type.
Hahaha... girls are always girls. They complain so much about how silly the question is but still give so many pointers.
The editor is on crack! DAMN HILARIOUS!!!!! PLEASE LET HIM/HER EDIT MOREEEE
