That was before the Internet and social media (imagine how terrible it would have been!), but the tabloids were as vicious as ever. Brian, Roger, and John were immensely protective of Freddie and would blatantly deny anything was wrong. And yeah, it's difficult for any Queen fan to watch this without feeling sad. It's beautiful, but heartbreaking.
I hope you've got an upbeat song lined up next. How about I Want to Break Free? The music video is iconic!

Freddie’s last video, written by Roger Taylor, where he bade farewell to his fans. Such love and grace in the face of gruesome pain, staring death in the face. We should all wish for such courage.
The last song Freddie wrote was the sublime A Winter’s Tale.
The last song he sang, just weeks before he died, is the extraordinary Mother Love. Both songs, in fact everything song on the albums Innuendo and Made in Heaven explodes with love, courage, compassion, even humour, (really, who would have the courage to write and perform ‘I’m Going Slightly Mad’ in the face of AIDS-induced dementia?). Just when you think Freddie must start to fade, as his body falls to pieces, he does the opposite.
And I cannot imagine how hard it must have been for his bandmates to work with him day after day, month after month, in the studio, watching their beloved friend’s life ebb away before their eyes. Anyway, all that love and grief is all over their last three albums, which are .... poetry. Just read the track list titles of The Miracle - when the rest of the band learned that Freddie had AIDS. Then, by the time they finished Innuendo, it’s less raging and confused and hoping for a miracle. Innuendo is more celebrating the intense joy of life, as it slips through Freddie’s fingers. All God’s Children - transcendent. The final, posthumous album, Made in Heaven, is Freddie at his better-than best, while the rest of the band is just pure grief.
That grief is all over their faces in every interview they do in 89 and 90, too, while they’re protecting Freddie by pretending all is well and going along with the interviewer’s urging for Queen to tour again soon. It must have been torture.

Love this song, but this video is painful. That awful disease had so affected Freddie in many ways but that wonderful voice was still there. Please consider Montreal Live performances of Save Me and Tie Your Mother Down and 2 awesome videos I Want It All and The Miracle. Thanks, enjoy your reactions.

Man, when Freddie said, I still love you", at the end, I felt his goodbye. Dang that makes me so so so sad. Thanks for reviewing this one, though. As far as recommendations, there are so many! You can rock out to "Keep Yourself Alive" (live at Montreal), "We Will Rock You" (fast) live at Montreal, or "Stone Cold Crazy" (live at the Rainbow), or "Tie Your Mother Down" live at Montreal. For more of a pop sound, I Want to Break Free is awesome!

great reaction. I love how Freddie just wore his heart on his sleeves and his waistcoat for this video, that he expressed that not only was he a superb artist, but also what a loving person he was. Though he didn't have any children of his own, he loved cats and was such a devoted cat daddy any animal lover would be proud of. The vest he's wearing has pictures of his beloved fur babies. As well as a devoted cat daddy, Freddie was also a godfather several times over, including to his ex-girlfriend Mary's son Richard and he took the job very seriously; he would call almost daily to see the children were happy, healthy and eating enough and right. Notice that Brian, Roger and John are doing their best to keep a stiff upper lip also. Imagine how that must of just ate at them inside, to watch him waste away and be completely helpless. I highly recommend you watch next "no one but you, only the good die young." a tribute song Brian, Roger and John wrote some years after Freddie's death to show that he was really like a brother to them, not just their frontman. also, really look at their faces, and listen to their voices; their sorrow is clear and they are doing all they can to keep it together and not break down crying. (not that I'd blame them if they did)

Diana North yes to everything you said. All their interviews promoting Innuendo through 1990 are excruciating. Their grief is etched deep into their faces as they pretend all is well and as they fend off questions about why they’re not touring. Utterly heartbreaking.

    Show must go on:
The song accounts the effort of Freddie Mercury continuing to perform
in spite of approaching the end of his life; he was dying from
complications due to HIV/AIDS, although the news of his illness had not
yet been made public in spite of ongoing media speculation claiming that
    he was seriously ill.
Freddie Mercury was so ill when the band
recorded the song in 1990, that Brian May had concerns as to whether he
was physically capable of singing it. Recalling Mercury’s performance,
May states; “I said, ‘Fred, I don’t know if this is going to be possible
to sing.’ And he went, ‘I’ll do it, darling’ - vodka down - and went in
and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal.

I’ve seen this video quite a few times, and it was the first time that I’ve noticed that when they pan the camera back and show Freddie’s whole body you can see him still bobbing his leg, very weakly but still in the same way as he did in his extravagant live performances of the past. Even when this near to death, the same passion to entertain still lived inside him till the end. That got me, all over again.

I think Freddie knew before 1987 because is voice changed. That’s why after the 1986 Wembley concert was the last one. They think he contacted it in the late 70’s. He had it in his throat that’s why his voice changed. If you listen to him singing in e early 70 concerts and then Wembley 1986 Lucan her the difference. But I love Freddie and Queen and listen to their songs everyday.

I recently got into Queen’s music, and ever since I’ve followed Freddie’s life, and I’ve read anything and everything about his tragic life. Bohemian Rhapsody was always my fav song until I heard this one. I listen to this one 5-10 times a day and it hits me square in the heart. I never knew why until I watched the music video for it. His last recorded video, and the last words for the camera was the iconic 3 words. “I love you”. Regardless of speculations about this song, as a Freddie Fan and Queen fan I can’t help but feel like that was his Goodbye to the world. I wish I was alive back in his day, to see him in person. Such a beautiful person.

as a live long fan of Queen (I discovered them in 1975 at the age of 9) this video brings back so many painful memories and as much as I love this songs, I can't watch this video without crying, even after all this years. It does not get easier. Freddie released a statement that he had Aids just 24 hours before he died., it was a different time, I don't know if they could have kept it a secret if it had happened today with all those social medias and smartphones. This was Freddies last minutes on video, after "these days." he was too ill, he couldn't do anything more. The song "Mother's love" was the last song he recorded and never finished. If you watch the video or listen to the song, you will know the moment Brian starts to sing in the 3rd verse, that Freddie was gone.

Freddie could barely stand in this video, but he did it anyway for the music and his fans, now that is a true artist and performer. They hide the fact he had aids because the press who was and still is against queen for some reason was ruthlessly pursueing Freddie. The only thing Freddie wanted to do is to entertain people and make music till the very end and he didn't want anyone to pitty him.

Freddie, off the stage, was a very private person and didn't want anyone outside a small circle to know that anything was wrong. He wanted to keep working and recording until he couldn't anymore. As he became more gaunt the tabloids relentlessly hounded him about his health. He finally, right at the end, released a statement that he had AIDS. And then died the next day.

Your videos are really not reaction videos, they are well thought out and well spoken commentaries and analysis. Art creates emotion and Queen was the best. If Freddie had kept going just a few months - perhaps a year longer - he would have benefited by the new drugs and we might have had him with us still. But life is so vulnerable. He didn't want to be their AIDS poster boy, he just wanted to sing and make music. You want a cool and more fun song? Try I'm going slightly mad. Freddie is far from well, but the video is simply sooo cool.
Another good example of a song that totally changes meaning according to who sings it, is Too much love will kill you. Please listen both to Freddie's version, and to Brian's. Brian was then in a real bad life situation and you can hear it in his voice.

Ok - gonna jump in with two things from your intro.
First - Magic Johnson is in no way CURED. In all likelihood from what we know, his viral load is very low, to the point where he can be expected to live normally for a long time. And it’s thanks to the medication he is on. Ironically Freddie and Magic basically crossed paths on this journey. Magic announced his status the same year that Freddie died. And it was about a year or so later that the treatment for HIV as we know it now was available.
Second - basically the theory is that the HIV virus jumped from monkey to human via food. Basically, people somewhere in Africa (not sure where) hunted and ate monkey (no judgement - people eat what’s available) and that started the whole process. Scishow on RUclips has a video series on HIV and explains it better. Keep in mind, it’s only a theory and we will likely never know for sure

I've got a wonderful, happy Queen song for you to react to! It's called 'Pain Is So Close To Pleasure'. Not one of their hits, but a fan favorite, and written by Freddie and John Deacon, the bass player. I'd love to see your reaction to it. Enjoy!

Gimme the Prize on the A Kind of Magic/Highlander soundtrack is a nice upbeat, kind of head banging song

He didn’t announce till the day before he died unknowingly . The band knew at this time but he had not announced it . First of all why does everyone say this . It wasn’t anyone’s business.
