- Taking a look at the Benchmade altitude new release for 2018 a ridiculously light weight but not to small knife
Blade length of 3.08 in
Blade thickness 0.9 in
handle thickness .35 in
overall length 7.38 in
weight 1.67 Oz
sheath weight .76 Oz
MSRP 230 Street 195
I’ve used it to process an elk and it was pretty good for that purpose. I only use it to process animals. It stays in my kill-kit. I cary a pocket knife for utilitarian uses. The Altitude is only for processing game.
I think intended for hunters who pursue mountain sheep, goats and other high altitude species that require lightweight equipment to the extreme. I know a very experienced sheep Hunter that uses it for this reason
You know someone is a good youtuber when he posts a 9:22 minute long video not giving shit for 10:00 minute ad revenue... I give you props!
Mr. Kopa you're right and that's dope thanks
When you can debone 2 elk befor you have to sharpen it amazing for sure.
Very helpful review. I was on the fence before & now I’m grabbing one for sure
Me too
Awesome vid man, keep up the great content.
One of the best descriptive videos I have seen, when you started my head was saying stupid when you Finnished if it was something I could afford I'd buy it.thank you that doesn't happen often.atb paddy😀👍☘
paddys potato peelers thank you I really appreciate that
this knife was intended for backcountry hunters who count every gram. it's meant for processing big game animals that you need to pack out and don't want to carry any more than you absolutely have to.
Thomas Leaf
People who dont hunt in the back country will not understand the concept behind this knife.
Its funny watching non hunters grapple for design reasons that are obvious to us! Perfect hunting knife!!!
Cool, looks pretty interesting
I'd say this is more for people who just collect benchmades, $230 for just a shaped single peice of metal that's sharpened and has a benchmade logo on it is kinda ridiculous
Alex Root I'm not going to argue that it is damned expensive for what it is but there it is more than just a sharp piece of Steel
Lugermonger I guess I'm just not a big benchmade guy, because If that had a spyderco logo on it I would probably want it too lol, when I first seen it actually I thought it was a throwing knife
Alex Root the design would make a good thrower but it's too light I think and the balance is off but I can see that
Since you're answering so quickly, I got a question I've wondered since I first subscribed to you. Where'd the name lugermonger come from, do you own any lugers or is it something other than the pistol or what
Alex Root it is 9mm Luger I'm a big fan of that cartridge and originally didn't understand what Monger meant it means of proprietor of specific items I thought it meant pushes the idea of but it doesn't
It was originally lugermonger .35 for the caliber I had originally intended the channel to be mostly about guns but that change pretty quick
I want to carry a fixed blade, but it’s illegal. My plan was that TOPS Scandi folder, but that’s 3.25” and my laws says 3”. I never thought I’d be that guy but... the law says “for self defense” I will carry the TOPS for work. Woah never thought the proper scaled up to that, crazy how you never get it from pictures alone
Looks super cool, thanks for the review!!
I think it's kinda like a last ditch self defense knife/backpacker knife. An as for the handle you could probably wrap some grip tape around it. So you'll have more to hold onto.
SilverKnight Flipper grip tape is a damn good idea a few people have mentioned paracord but I think it would be too bulky grip tape would be good on this one
Lugermonger I agree, it be too bulky and take away the intent of the knife. Lol
Wish they could have gotten this down to a lower price point. I'll keep my eyes open for a second hand one.
Benjamin Poirier I think you should find them on the second hand Market pretty quick I can see a lot of people loving this knife but a lot of people buying it and not and then reselling it
Diggin' these videos! Any chance you could take a look at the crkt fulcrum 2 or some knives from ganzo?
Just found your channel and have enjoyed it and just curious what would you recommend to be the best knife for everyday carry
Brian Baker thank you and I would say most important thing is a knife you'll actually carry and use there are so many quality makers company's coming out with good knives I always recommend the Benchmade Griptilian but there is no best knife it's just quality is very important you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on a knife but the 15 $25 knives just don't have the longevity or performance of something higher-end Benchmade Spyderco Cold Steel Ontario WE Hogue Kershaw crkt I'll make some good stuff get on bladehq.com set your price filter and see what looks good
Maybe it’s a glove knife? My UTX-85 eats up my thumb so I wear gloves when I play with it. Maybe it’s a skinner glove knife, pretty specific though...
i I don't know I'll have to test that I think the handle may be too small for a lot of gloves something thin or fingerless would be good
it would be cool if they offered a full scale set for it. or made another version with scales so it would be more comfortable to use
toxic flipper that's an interesting idea I wonder if they will I can see a special edition or a - 1 they could do that
Beauty
Its say that they discontinued most of their knives, but it was sad when they discontinued the benchmade 32.
I also love your videos :D
Baliscrub I know right 32 surprised me
Baliscrub and thank you
I tried to find one everywhere the day they announced it was discontinued but they were sold out. I just read your comment, decided to do another search, and low and behold they are back in stock at bladehq on sale for 199. Just picked one up. Thanks!!!
chutcher01 heck yeah that's don't let me know what you think of it they were on pre-order for a long time
Is it overpriced? Probably, but I love mine. It has become my edc.
i want this
thicc lil chicc mc nuglet ...that name tho
yeah... i was bored
Not to detract from your thorough explanation in any way, cause I enjoyed it. But you should show us, while skinning. Now that would be even more useful. Thanks.
Great vid. Keep up the good work.
Deathstar gameing heck yeah thank you
no problem jared
Nice vid bro! I have to get that knife
This knife is straight up meant to be a skinner knife. Keeping an edge when cutting through animal hide.
Sam J
Yep.
Sam J straight up and I think it will be great for it
It’s pricey but s90v is pricey. But it is pricey for what it is. They could have fancied up the sheath at least or something, included paracord with a ferro rod. Something for that price
Mmmmmmm oh god I want one was hoping u would make a video on this
You should add a cut test in your reviews
Nibaly I will for the actual review
Ok. Greetings from Italy :)
Nibaly greetings from California
It's a sharpened blade blank that was dipped in a paint bucket. No thanks.
This is not a $200 knife...
Witch balisong did u recomend to me, I never had one?
TheZueraNeverEnds something cheap to start out with Chinese CCC or bear and son that way you can figure out if you actually enjoy the hobby and it won't hurt dropping it over and over and over again damaging a 200 plus dollar knife and then upgrade from there trainers are good but they tend to teach bad habits a live blade forces you to be careful and learn
Lugermonger thank u
TheZueraNeverEnds try the boker plus training balisong
can you make a video on how to sharp your knife without sharpening stones or sand paper?
Elian Gamer yeah for sure
Ah that's beautiful.
xOrbz right
that little orange accent reminds me of the Benchmade crooked river
Cooper Beggs in there hunt series 2 I like that orange
That's a nice looking butter knife 🤔
Lolly sand active LOL
you should review the squid trainer Triton
I don't know if you will see this in time but there will be a relatively large squid trainer drop tomorrow see squids Instagram for more info
Can you test a tac-knife.
I have mixed opinions toward this blade. Of course S30V and it being a Benchmade is a plus, but it just looks a little bit generic to me compared with the rest of the 2018 Benchmade lineup.
Just because I don't care for its looks is just my personal preference for it, that doesn't mean that it is a bad knife.
Zane Domke it is kind of an odd ball it's actually s90v
Huh never seen a sub 2 ounce fixed blade before
Nathan Begovich I know right and it's got a 3-inch blade
Less that 2oz of steel for more than $200 🤔
Also why’d u buy the black not orange
rufus gillespie it's the carbon fiber the Orange is too much Orange I think the black accents the carbon fiber so there's just enough Orange to be an accent
rufus gillespie I think the orange model is better for what it is intended for as a hunting blade the orange would be extremely good in the boonies
Totally overpriced
Ricci Rich Maybe
Ricci Rich You think the proper is over priced too? I do, frankly because I’m broke and can’t afford it lol
Ricci Rich
Probably. I could file this out from some 5160, but the heat-treat won't be as good.
I agree, no real reason this knife should be $200 but that's benchmade.
TheA77Way
You could file this knife out from a piece of 1095 or 5160 and heat treat with Peanut Oil for less than half...
wheres the chinese versions?
*id’nit?*
Don’t call that a scale. Don’t insult us
No fing way. Pay more for less s30v lmao! Less work for them too. It still amazes me that people fall for this crap.
s90v with 2.3% carbon 9% vanadium opposed to s30v 1.45% carbon 4% vanadium .1% nitrogen which is not in the s90v increased hardenability decreased ductility doesn't sound like you know too much about metallurgy
@@Lugermonger35 I can tell you don't get laid much.
"S30v" was a typo.
Again (because you got lost somewhere)
It less work to produce, and you paid for the same or less amount of S90V.
Example: (because your copy and paste, combined with your fierce defense of your purchase has got you menstruating all over the comments)
NAKAMURA in S90v is 5 bucks cheaper, has a lock, handle and belt clip.
I understand if you like the knife, rock out. Apart from collecting or just liking it, you can't argue that it's a good buy.
You don't know logic.
@@casey197930 okay the 484 Nakamura from Benchmade in standard m390 is 191 u.s. dollar the 484-1 in s90v is 267 so your numbers don't add up
And if you really think when you buy a knife you're only paying for the blade Steel you need to educate yourself more about modern production knives the 484 - 1 has carbon fiber handle scales a different finish on the blade and Hardware as well as a lower production amount that's what you're paying for not just the blade Steel
fit and finish heat treatment materials the tolerances between those materials that's what you're paying for
The fact that you bust out with personal insults just shows me you are reacting sensitively to my response suggesting to me I hit the nail on the head
@@Lugermonger35 Those prices are directly from Benchmade. The SAME s90v in that blade is 5 bucks cheaper.
Your original comment was a jab, to pretend otherwise is being willingly ignorant.
You're still defending the price with your emotions. It's cool if you like the knife. It's not a value at that price.
@@casey197930 that's your opinion and I do not dispute that it is valid however those prices are from Blade HQ and knifecenter not Benchmade I would challenge you to find something comprable with the same materials location of manufacture warranty services and quality production for the same price
Lol 😂 joke . What a freaking joke 😂
